  • 1Description

With the Nikon COOLPIX P90, high-quality photos are simple to take and easy to enjoy. The 12.1 megapixel EXPEED image processor boasts amazing life-like color and superior sharpness and contrast.

The 24x optical zoom lens takes you wherever the action is--from wide landscapes to telephoto sports shooting. Coupled with Nikon's 4-Way Vibration Reduction System (Optical VR, Motion Detection, High ISO, and Best Shot Selector Technology), the P90 automatically corrects for unwanted camera shake and delivers breath-taking photographs--even under low-light.

Packed with professional-grade features, the P90 offers superior handling and ease of use in a package that's a fraction of the size and weight of Nikon's popular family of SLR cameras.

24x Optical Zoom Nikkor ED Glass Lens
Legendary Nikkor optics are known for a tradition of uncompromising color and clarity. This rich history coupled with the 24x optical zoom range (26-624mm 35mm film equivalent) of the COOLPIX P90 boasts exceptional quality and complete compositional freedom. From landscapes to portraits to telephoto sports and nature shooting, the P90 takes you where the action is!
3" Vari-Angle LCD
Bright, sharp, and easy to view at any angle, the 3" LCD of the P90 makes composition a snap. The screen offers 90 degree tilt for easy high and low-angle shooting. The wide viewing angle makes framing and reviewing your photos a pleasure, even under harsh sunlight.
15fps Sports Continuous Scene Mode
Never miss an action moment again! The new Sports Continuous Scene Mode of the P90 captures up to 15fps at a resolution of 3MP or less. From the fast-paced action of the soccer field to an eagle in flight, the P90 works with you to capture the moments that matter most.
Best Shot Selector
Great for night portraits and low-light landscapes, Nikon's proprietary Best Shot Selector mode ensures the sharpest picture possible by sorting up to 10 continuous photos and automatically saving the sharpest frame.
Advanced Face Detection Technology
Nikon's Advanced Face Detection technology keeps everyone in focus. From individual portraits up to a 12-person group shot, the P90 puts an emphasis on faces. Compose with the confidence that everyone will be in focus!

    Nikon 26171B reviews

Coolpix P90 Digital Camera (Matte Black) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Coolpix P90 ... Very good but not great. PRO: very good images; effectively long zoom range with useful wide angle at 26mm; ton of features; lithium-ion battery (I prefer it over AAs); great price when on sale; large tilting LCD. CON: no thread for filters; no external flash mount - would have been very useful to be able to use Nikon Speedlight flash system since it's low light images were poor and very disappointing. I wish Nikon would follow suit and do what Canon did with their flagship P&S, Powershot G11 - use bigger sensor (31% bigger by my estimation) with larger pixels to improve low light performance. If Nikon can improve the low light performance, then it would get 5 stars. P100 anyone?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid value, with some limitations I bought this camera for macro work and nature photography. The zoom range is superior to my CoolPix 4500 w/X3 telephoto, and the controls are even easier to use. However, Nikon deleted the external flash connection, and using A/C power now requires a separate dummy battery accessory. Shutter lag is much better, as is file write-time. I would have liked to save in TIF, though, like my 4500 did.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a DSLR but amazing ZOOOOOM! I'm an owner of the 12 megapixel Nikon D90 D-SLR. I was quite impressed with the quality of the pictures coming out of the P90. The auto settings seem to overexpose the highlights, easily fixed with exposure compensation, but that being said shooting under manual settings the pictures look great. It's light weight but not small. Still feels like you've got something in your hands. The tilting screen is a real plus, especially for shots above your head or below your waist. I would say that by far the best feature of this camera is the 24x zoom. Considering at the long end the P90 is shooting an equivalent 624mm, it takes amazing tele photos. If I wanted the same capabilities on my D90 it would require a extremely expensive lens and a lens tripod. Biggest downside to the P90 would be the noise levels above ISO 400. Considering it's capturing 12 megapixels in 28mm2 compared to the D90's 372mm2 it's understandable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful All Round Choice I purchased this camera as an addition to my Nikon DSLR as there are times when I wanted to have a camera with me but did needed something smaller than the DSLR. My first trial use was on vacation and included bright daylight, interior flash, interior low light without flash, cloudy exterior, close up, and telephoto. In other words almost all situations. I found that I did not experience the problems reported by many others IF the camera's settings are understood and properly used. Several photos were taken inside in quite low light and came out fine with a larger aperture setting. When these were printed the photo quality was quite good. I also had the same quality results with wildlife photography using the full zoom. Care must be taken to steady the camera but I used the view finder and braced the camera against my face. Only a few shots were missed due to shutter lag. This is a very good choice for all round use if time is taken to become familiar with the various camera settings. I would highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Anyone can take great photos of birds! I was looking for a camera that would take great photos of birds and other wildlife on the fly and this camera has not disappointed. I have a bit of a problem holding the camera still, but with the image stabilizer in this unit I have gotten great shots from long distances that crop and enlarge beautifully. We live in the birding paradise of South Texas and just drive around spotting birds. Most of the photos I have taken were from the car window and are amazing. For the price range of this camera, I can't think of anything to criticize.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from tap perfect The Nikon P90 felt lighter than it looked. The camera could use a little sprucing up in terms of interface and menus. The Coolpix P90's image performance is the best feature of this camera in bright and low light. But limited external controls and features. It produced sharp, detailed, natural looking images that look nearly professional scaled down. I satisfied with the coolpix P90's performance. Colors are vivid and true.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Coolpix P90 I'm a gardener and have a huge assortment of flowers blooming year round. I love taking pictures of them so I need a good camera that is fast, not difficult for me to use, but takes very good pictures. I especially enjoy using the macro. As I tend to shake some when shooting this camera is just the ticket for me. Every picture I have taken has turned out well. I'm not a pro or even close yet the camera allows me to have fantastic pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great versatile camera I use this the supplement my D3 & D700 when I must travel light. I like: the wide zoom range, tilting LCD screen, effective VC, electronic viewfinder Would like it to shoot RAW Noise apparent at low light levels
