H1 Audio Recorder and Accessory Kit is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what I need it to First off I love the recorder. The price is justified. That being said, there's a reason there are more expensive models. 1) there's no place to attach a lanyard so you can easily put it over your neck. This would be handy if you're plugging in a boom mic. 2) the buttons are TINY. My fingers are thin and I'm having a hard time with the buttons on the side 3) It's new to me, but it seems the only way to see the file name is to press play. There's no way to display what file number you're on. (I admittedly do not read instructions either). If you want to press record and the thing record....this is for you. It does it very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great recorder for the price- super compact & easy to use I have a few audio recorders, including the H4N which is much better suited to recordings from mics and off mixers due to the XLR inputs. This unit is really compact, and produces a really good recording from the inbuilt mics. I use it on a RODE tripod which is specially damped on its legs so it minimises surface noise. A super light weight unit that is pretty fast on the boot up (I use a 32 GB card and it takes 2 secs or so to initialise.) Great interface and just enough basic settings to do vocal recordings. Is quite prone to wind noise so get a dead cat to help with this if you're outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best in class, for price! My daughter needed a recorder for her voice lessons, and the salesman said this was the easiest to use. My first reaction was negative due to the low quality built-in speaker, but when I listened with headphones, it was amazing! I liked it so much I bought one for myself. Excellent microphones, great stereo separation, and I've had good success pulling the .wav files off and editing them on my computer. Unlike the other reviewer's experience, the memory cards have worked flawlessly on both of our H1's. It does feel cheap because of the thin plastic body, but it has quality where it counts. Great sound reproduction across the entire frequency range. I had *not* expected such a booming bass from such a tiny unit! I took it to comparison-shop for a new acoustic guitar. It captured the subtle differences between the instruments perfectly. Playing it back on my computer, my wife thought I was playing live! I recommend the accessory kit, especially since the unit doesn't come with a USB cable. The belt carrying case is convenient (though I wish it had space for the tripod, USB cable, and a spare battery), and the little tripod is very useful. Also, get a good set of ear buds. The built-in speaker is REALLY lousy! But everything else about this unit greatly exceeded my expectations for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, almost but just short of five stars The Zoom H1 is a great recorder that makes it easy to improve the audio of my videos, whether I use it as a microphone into my camera, or as a recorder for audio synchronized to my audio. The H1 is a quality upgrade to my sound without breaking the bank. The one thing that I am not thrilled about, however, is the plastic ?? thread screw hole on the unit. That part should have been metal, and I have been using a homemade shock mount Which works quite well, by the way) rather than wear out the thread. I hope that an improved release would have that, as well as a metal rather than plastic body. That would definitely be incentive to get a new one. These are the only things stopping me from giving it full stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good sound, flimsy build & junk media I bought this as an inexpensive way to get decent actor audio (when paired with the Pearstone OLM-10) and impromptu field recordings. It's not bad for the price and the accessories, while cheap, do an adequate job for each of their functions. Now, the issues... The H1 is very cheaply built, it creaks and groans if you adjust your hold too much or too firmly. Sturdy, this is not. Their SD card supplier (Pretec) QC standards must be really bad, because the included card is garbage. On EVERY start up, the H1 would say the Micro SD needed formatting. At first I thought it might be the recorder, but my old 2gb card from Patriot hasn't had a single issue so far. If you already have a Micro SD, use that one, otherwise add the cost of a better brand card to your purchase. All in all, it's not too shabby, but given the suspect build quality and possibly needing to buy another MicroSD, I can't recommend this recorder, unless you have absolutely no funds to buy anything better and need decent sound yesterday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great job at a reasonable price! I use this recorder to help with my video recordings. Whether it's on a telescoping mic stand, a table, shelf, or in a pocket (attached to a wired cavalier mic), it does a great job with virtually no learning curve. I'm very glad I bought this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality mic for a decent price Bought Zoom H1 for DSRL filming, very satisfied this far - high quality and easy to use. What's definitely missing is a cord to DSLR audio-in, but that's included in more expensive DSLR accessory kit. From accessories included in this kit I'm actually using only the windshield and mostly to protect microphones from dust, occasionally little bag and a tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and Simple I did a casual funny mock interview with a friend using the onboard mics and it worked fine (hand holding it back and forth). I put it in front of my guitar amp and it records well, my solo jazz guitar study. At night, so not to disturb anyone I use the line out of my Blackstar fly 3 into the line in of the H1, monitoring with the headphones. Very happy with this, as I get the urge to try or study things at odd hours. I purchased the accessory kit, put the wind screen on it and just left it on, the USB adapter works great if you want to power it plugged into a wall socket, but it doesn't record when USB powered by my laptop, its just for downloading I think, unless I'm missing something as I haven't yet read any of the literature that came with it. But that's how easy it is to use. It's handy and small. I've read about the complaints that it's flimsy, but it's more than OK in my purview, just treat it gently. Buttons are small, you kind of have to punch them with your fingernails, that would be my main complaint as I have to look at it to punch efficiently, can't do it blind. I like that I don't have to dial through a hierarchy of menus, it's button oriented simple. A definite improvement in recording quality from my Olympus OMD video mics (though I've achieved decent quality by surrounding my camera with my Blackstar Fly 3 and 103 ext cab, getting a close-mic setup). But I'm glad not to have to use the camera and focus on audio. The tripod in the kit is the only thing thats a bit worthless (doesn't open-spread wide enough) but I already have a high quality Bogen version of it. You have to play with your input volume and headphone volumes and your amp, but once you get something that works, you don't need to touch it anymore and can focus on your daily guitar playing and study. Great for travelling I would think, lightweight and small. My next goal is to get a an audio interface to record direct into Audacity in the Linux environment.
