    Sanken COS-11D reviews

COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic, Normal Sens, Hardwired 1/8" TRS Connector for Sennheiser Evolution Wireless Transmitter (with Accessories, Gray) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from As hoped for I decided to upgrade my mics that came with the Sennheiser EW100's and did a bunch of research. Came across a few people that raved about this mic and I can see why. (OK...HEAR why!) Much more natural/flat sound than the stock mic and cable is more robust. Being an omni it works no matter which direction it's pointed. I'm a little let down by the variety...or lack of variety of mounting accessories but the sound quality more than makes up the difference. It's it a little on the large side too. Important...it is MUCH hotter than the stock mic and you must turn down the gain at the transmitter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good mic! I wont go on in detail about the sound quality, it is well known for this. I certainly beats my ME2 that comes with the Sennheiser EW series. Other things that are not mentioned about the mic, but a very helpful features. The mic comes with a weighted connector, which is great for dropping it down the talents/interviewee's clothing! The stock mounts are great, the clip mount (for outside clothing) allows you to loop the cord so that a little tug on the cord does not create any noise. The rubber mount (for under clothing) takes tape very well, cleans up nicely and mounts to the mike isolating the head from rubbing against clothing. The cord feels very much like the one off the set of headphones that comes with an iPod. It is not stiff, but not soft - it wont develop kinks or dents easily. The cord is slightly textured, but glue residue from Hydrocolloid or Micropore tape can be rubbed off easily. It is the little details that make for a great, usable mic - and Sanken has definitly paid attention to the little things!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound with a caveat The virtues of the high sound quality and compact size of this mic have been expounded upon at length elsewhere, and I will add my voice to that crowd. However, if you are purchasing this mic with the 3.5 mm locking plug for a Sennheiser EW series transmitter, be advised that the particular plug used at the time of this writing does not pair well with the its intended transmitter's jack when any stress is applied. The soldering and strain relief are okay, but the plug itself is apparently problematic.Specifically, it appears to be slightly longer than the plug that comes with the lav included with the Sennheiser transmitter; so as a result of added leverage, it may be subject to forces that cause just enough bending of the tip to lose contact with the jack in which it is plugged. This is my opinion after experiencing this failure with two of these mics in a basically low-impact usage situation. Conversely, using the same mics furnished with a TA5 plug for Lectrosonics transmitters was not found to be prone to failure. My bottom line is that I will continue to use this excellent mic, but I will re-terminate with a new locking 3.5 mm TRS plug before using on location.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Lav Mics for your Sennheiser Picked up a pair for my two Sennheiser wireless lav systems. These seamlessly work with the Sennheiser 3.5mm jack. I use the mics for production audio. Mostly Indie Film or interviews. The size of the mics work great very easily hidden. Compared to the mics that come with the Sennheisers these seem to be significantly smaller and at a much cleaner/clearer output. I would suggest these mics to anyone looking to upgrade your Sennheiser System(s). This upgrade really helped me get the clear audio I was looking for. No regrets of the purchase, would buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sanken and Sennheiser If you're using the stock mic with your Sennheiser Evolution series G3 wireless system, you'll be pretty amazed at the difference. This mic makes the stock mic sound like it's wrapped in rubber. It's much more live, hotter, and has significantly broader frequency response. It's also more sensitive to placement, so take your time and set it up right on your subject. But yeah, get it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent little lav I'm not a sound guy, so ease of use for 1-man-band situations is critical. The stock mic with my sennheiser packs...not good at all. SO much handling noise, tinny sound. This thing is sweet - cuts great with the MKH-50 overhead, super easy to place with minimal rustle. You get what you pay for, and this mic is my top-pick for the Sennheiser packs - makes the fairly cheap radio system sound GOOD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I very much like this mic I had a shoot a week ago that I bought this for. Previously, I had a Tram TR50 and the Senn. ME2's that came with my G3's. I got the Cos-11D along with the Garfield hush lav foams and it was spectacular. I had to mic up about 35-40 people in 2 days and hide the mic. This mic sounded outstanding and was so easy to hide with the hush lav and not get clothing rustle. The Tram still sounds great, but the next lav I buy will be another Cos-11D because of the build. Just so much easier to hide and keep quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loud and clear Normally, I record with XLR mics, the Tram TR50 or Sennheiser MKH416, onto a Sound Devices 702. Pretty high quality setup. This microphone takes the Sennheiser wireless packs from terrible (with the included ME2 mics) to pretty good. (that's supposed to be a compliment) Perhaps a bit hot on the high end, but so much crisper and clearer than the ME2s. Worth the money.
