Sanken COS-11D Overview

The black Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity and Locking 3.5mm Connector for Sony Transmitters is a subminiature lav microphone designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.

Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this tiny mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls-off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture-resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a locking 3.5mm connector and is wired for use with Sony transmitters. Accessories are available separately and are not included with this configuration of the microphone.

Locking 3.5mm Connector
Compatible Wireless Transmitters
  • Sony: Works with Sony bodypack transmitters equipped with a locking 3.5mm connector, including the UWP-D and DWZ Series.
  • Also works with many third-party wireless transmitters and portable audio recorders that are equipped to supply 3 to 10 VDC through a locking 3.5mm connector wired for Sony compatibility.
Broadcast-Quality Sound and Dependable Performance
Subminiature Mic with a Big Sound
The camera-ready COS11-D features a subminiature capsule that enables the microphone to be inconspicuous and easily disguised in clothing or costumes. The unique vertical diaphragm design offers a clear and natural sound optimized for the human voice.
Normal Headroom for Standard Speech and Vocals
This version of the mic features a normal sensitivity setting for standard speech levels up to 123 dB SPL.
Omnidirectional Polar Pattern
The forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern picks up sound from all around the mic and provides a consistent frequency response, even for off-axis sound. This helps to supply clear, intelligible speech and vocals, even when the talent isn't speaking directly toward the microphone.
Tough, Water-Resistant Construction for Indoor/Outdoor Locations
The water-resistant front mesh screen provides reliable protection from perspiration and moisture, making the mic a solid performer in all kinds of weather. The rugged cable is also built to resist moisture and handling noise and stay pliable, even after repeated uses.

question

will this work with a regular recorder like the Roland R05?
Asked by: Alex
This model of the Sanken COS11D is wired specifically for use with the Sony UWP wireless system, transmitters. it is likely it will produce audio when connected to the Roland R05, however the locking connector prevents the mic jack from being properly seated. This would not be recommended for use other than intended. Sanken does not currently offer a model compatible with portable audio recorders. There are several mics that are designed for portable recorders and offer similar quality such as the Tram TR50 see B&H# TRTR50BNLSET or Countryman EMW. B&H # COMEMWSFF05B.

This microphone requires 48v Phantom Power. You would need to use an active XLR adapter, of which there are many to choose from, or a simple Phantom Power Supply. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577469-REG/PSC_FPSC0001_48_PHantom_Single.html

Is there an option to connect it to a XLR input camcorder? Also will it work with my phone's 3.5mm headphone port?
Asked by: Jared
A Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLR, will allow you to plug this mic into a camera with XLR input, which would be able to provide 48 volt phantom power to the mic. To connect this to a smartphone, you would adapt the end to TRRS with a Rode SC4 3.5mm TRS Female to 3.5mm Right-Angle TRRS Male Adapter Cable for Smartphones, BH #ROSC4. The smartphone will power the mic in this case.

Asked by: J Perry
Saramonic seems like copy of Sony system so most probably will not work because wiring is not the same. It can be expensive gamble.

I bought this one. I have a question. If i connect sony transmitter this without phantom power, is it operating?
Asked by: Lee
The COS-11D requires 3 to 10V of plug-in power, not phantom power. Phantom power is higher voltage of 12 to 48V. The Sony transmitter will supply the proper amount of plug-in power needed for the COS-11D.
