Spanning a flexible range of telephoto focal lengths, the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM is a Canon L-series lens characterized by its relatively compact size and versatility. Two ultra-low dispersion elements are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range for high clarity and color accuracy, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast. Also, a floating elements mechanism is employed to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range for notable sharpness from 3.9' to infinity.

This lens has had updates lately, is it suitable for new sensors? How would it behave, for example, with a 5D Mark IV?
Asked by: ANDRES
Incredibly suitable for the sensor and will be a nice, sharp, and more portable alternative to say a 100-400mm.

This is subjective but I have never seen a Canon lens with the zoom ring out but the front filter. Is it easy to operate without bumping the focus?
Asked by: John
It takes a little getting used to but there really isn't any issue adjusting the zoom ring and affecting the focus.

question

How sharp is this lens and how is the autofocus speed compared with the new 100-400mm for sport photography? I'm using EOS1Dx MkII
Asked by: HUIT P.
I use both the 70-300 and the new 100-400 on a 5DM4. I find that both lenses respond quickly and accurately. I typically use the 100-400 on a monopod whereas I use the 70-300 hand-held. Note that I purchased a tripod collar for the 70-300 but have not yet used it.

question

Can I use a canon 1.4x teleconverter with this lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
Although the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM Lens cannot work with the current Canon EF Extenders, one option to consider is the Kenko TELEPLUS HD DGX 1.4x Teleconverter for Canon EF/EF-S Lenses, B&H # KEKTPHD14C. It is important to note that autofocus may not be available with this combination. https://bhpho.to/2luwYx2
