Canon Extender EF 1.4x III Overview

The Extender EF 1.4X III from Canon is designed for select Canon EF mount L-series telephoto lenses. It increases the focal length of a lens by a factor of 1.4x while still delivering superb image quality. To ensure the best possible image quality in all shooting conditions, it combines redesigned optics, improved data communication between lens and camera and enhanced environmental protection. It is ideal for photojournalists and wildlife, nature and sports photographers who need to get close to distant and challenging subjects and it reduces the need to carry heavy telephoto lenses.

The Extender EF 1.4X III features seven optical elements in three groups and all optical elements have Canon's Super Spectra coating to reduce ghosting and flare. A new Fluorine Coating on the front and rear elements makes marks, such as spots left by water or fingerprints, much easier to clean than standard coatings.

To facilitate the accurate transfer of imaging data between the lens and camera body, the extender features an integrated processor which ensures all focusing, metering and ID information is available - allowing the photographer to capture balanced, well-exposed images. When combined with the latest range of premium Canon L-series lenses, these extenders enable AF accuracy even when capturing moving subjects. When attached, the 1.4x extender reduces the effective maximum aperture by 1 stop.

A carefully positioned lens release mechanism also makes it easy to mount the extenders quickly, reducing the time that the camera and lens are exposed to the environment. The extenders offer the exceptional build-quality expected from Canon's professional products, and are resistant to both dust and water, allowing photographers to use them in extreme shooting conditions.

Note: This converter is only compatible with fixed focal length L-series lenses 135mm and over, as well as the EF 70-200/2.8L, EF 70-200/2.8L IS, EF 70-200/4L, and EF 100-400/4.5-5.6L. Additionally, please see the lens and/or camera body manual for full autofocus compatibility information with the Extender EF 1.4X III.

I am using a canon are six mirror, less body with a sigma 150 to 600 mm contemporary lens. Will this work with that combination?
Asked by: Mark D
The Canon Extender EF 1.4X III is incompatible with the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF. Instead, use the Sigma TC-1401 1.4x Teleconverter for Canon EF. This teleconverter is compatible with Canon R series mirrorless cameras when using the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. Here is the link: https://bhpho.to/43dSTYD.

will this fit a will this extender work with a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2?
Asked by: Jeff
I'm sorry, no, Canon converters only work with Canon L series pro lenses, like the 70-200 and 100-400. Tamron makes a converter that would work. You can click on the link below to view: https://bhpho.to/3db5gf2

will this work on Canon R 7 with ef-r adapter with ef lenses?
Asked by: Greg
If you use a Canon teleconverter on a Canon lens with a Canon camera, it should work. However, it works according to the"rules of teeconverters" which means that most cameras will not autofous if the aperture goes above an F8. When you use a 1.4 extender, you lose 1 stop on the lens. If the higher aperture was a 5.6, 1 stop would take it to an f8 and you'd still be ok. But if the lens was already an f8 or slower, you'd lose autofocus. The other thing to worry about is that not all lenses will physically fit on a teleconverter. That protruding section (I like to call it a nose) might impact the back of the lens which is not a good thing. So, you have to check if the particular EF lens is compatable with the teleconverter. If it is, the EOS R adapter will let you mount it on the camera.
