    Olympus 261003B reviews

50mm f/2.0 Macro ED Zuiko Digital Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 125.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect lens! This lens perfectly combines macro and portrait work. Focus speed might be better. If you are focusing in similar distance its fine but changing focus distance from i.e. 3 meters (portrait) to 30 centimeters take a while. Its a pity it doesnt have a focus limiter. Image quality is the best Ive ever seen - huge difference compared to kit lenses and even other Olympus lenses (14-54, 50-200). Focal length of 50mm is very handy for outdoor portrait work and also for macro work. Overall I like this lens and its quality very much. If you are considering this lens do not hesitate, youd be very pleased as I am.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best pro lens in 4/3!! Its performance is near flawless. Optically the lens is basically beyond criticism. the Olympus 50mm f/2ED is basically free of distortions, vignetting and chromatic aberrations, very impressive!! At f/2 aperture the resolution is really high in the centre and border too... Mechanically it suffers a little from the conventional AF motor as well the focus extension system although the principal quality of the construction is very high. Other characteristics Out-of-focus blurr (bokeh) is usually rendered beautifully. A lens almost perfect!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth it! This is by far one of my favorite zuiko lenses that I own. I use this for macro, portrait, mountaineering, and landscapes, and it always provides sharp well focused pictures. You can't go wrong using this one for macro photography, as you can very close up to the subject, and get some very clean and nice shots. I've taken images with this lens of bugs, flowers, and have used it for food photography, and it's by far worth it's weight in gold. You can really push your photographic artistry with this lens, and it provides a lot of capabilities. Overall, I mostly shoot with the manual focus, however, the autofocus has worked well for me as well. This lens has made me a fan of primes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portraits made simple! Rarely review anything, but so happy with lens I have to!I am far from a prosumer but this lens breathed new life into our old Oly e410! New baby was the excuse for purchase and it is worth every penny for the photographs we have been able to take. With moderate natural light you will be amazed at the portraits you can take. I jokingly call it my Senior Photo lens since it is easy to get studio looking photos. Focus might be a bit slow but for the images it captures I'm willing to wait. If you have someone in your life (baby, pet, family) that you want to capture, get this lens and immortalize them! B&H is awesome, got this lens used for $ and it was as good as new

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable lens. Legendary. This is our second Zuiko 50 2. This lens is so sharp, accurate, and with such beautiful contrast, AND it's weather resistant, it's hard to believe its so affordable. We use it mostly as a portrait lens, but as a macro sometimes too. It's such a great lens it stays on our E3 and E520 permanently. We've become used to the longer focal lenght (100mm equiv). I actually prefer this lens to my next favorite prime, the PanaLeica 25 1.4. Don't think about it too much. If you have ANY Olympus or Panasonic DSLR, this should be a mandatory lens. You wont bealive you images. Can't wait to try this on an E5!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, crystal clear, versatile. I bought an Olympus E-500 a few years ago with a kit quality Zuiko 14-45mm f3.5-5.6 lens. Pedestrian at best. But making the grade into the world of DSLR cameras from the point and shoot 1 megapixel world made that stock lens just fine. After a while, though, I found it just didn't give me the crisp clear performance of the OM-1 Zuiko lenses of my film days. I chose this 50mm (100mm equiv to 35mm days) lens to fill the need for product photography for online auctioning, and general portraiture. When I looked through the viewfinder, I was astounded by the difference in the clarity between it, and the slow stock lens. The manual focus is a smooth as my old OM Zuiko lenses. The only analogy the pops into my mind for comparison is like going from standard TV to HDTV. If you are ready to step it up and take some photographs and not just snapshots, I recommend this lens. The macro capability is a real plus. Don't forget the filter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent lens I use this lens as my main & only lens on my E-420 (which is my go-anywhere knock-around camera). Since I've never used any other Olympus Zuiko lenses previously I can't compare to others of this brand; however, this is a very sharp, lightweight lens, even at f/2.0. I find almost no chromatic aberation (you have to magnify very very high to see any). The color rendition is amazing. If there is any downside (and only minor at that) it is the tonal range isn't quite what the canon L-series is. Note, however, that I have not yet tried out the shadow/highlight gradation feature on my camera. Also, I don't know how much of this problem is due to the camera's circuitry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't wait like I did. This is my new favorite lens. Despite several decades as a photographer this is my first true macro lens. Now I don't know how I survived without a macro lens. While I contemplated the 35mm macro lens--the reviews there led me to pay the extra money for the 50mm lens. This lens produces very sharp images and the working distance from the subject is perfect. Standard shots (not macro) are equally sharp. While the standard zoom lenses are versatile, using a fixed focus lens again is no problem. Expertise: Semi-pro Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Extension tubes for OM and Hasselblad
