Canon 2573B003AA overview

  • 1Description

Canon's VIXIA HF-10 AVCHD 16GB Dual Flash Memory/SDHC Memory HD Camcorder brings together compact design with the convenience of recording in HD to flash memory. Thanks to its small size, you can take this camera anywhere you go for recording family vacations or just capturing on-the-fly moments during your daily routine. Record in high definition to the 16GB internal flash memory for up to 6 hours in LP mode. Should you need more recording space using removable SDHC cards opens up a whole new world of possibilities, making it quick and easy to upload stunning video and stills to your PC for emailing, printing or sharing on sites such as YouTube.

Canon gave this camcorder a 3.3Mp 1/3.2" Full HD CMOS sensor that captures remarkably clear, rich and accurate images each and every time. And, because it records in HD when you play the footage back on your widescreen HDTV you'll see the amazing picture quality in every scene. The HF-10 also features a 2.7" widescreen multi-angle vivid LCD, SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization, and a DIGIC DVII image processor for clear, rich video and stills. Canon's own 12x HD Video Zoom Lens has three preset zoom speeds for recording smooth shots and a Super Spectra Coating for reduction of flare and glare.

This camcorder gets even better with 24p recording, allowing you to obtain that film-look and 30p Progressive Mode for recording action and sports footage you plan on posting to the web. The Quick Start mode keeps your camera in sleep mode and brings it up and ready to record in less than a second with the touch of a button. All of these features and then some make the HF-10 an exceptional value.

16GB Internal Flash Memory
Capture up to 6 hours of video to the 16GB internal flash memory in Full HD. There's no more need to worry about carrying around extra tapes or DVDs with this solid state camcorder. And, because there are no moving parts the start-up times are faster than ever. Use a removable SDHC for more recording space should you need it.
3.3Mp 1/3.2" Full HD CMOS Sensor
Film in 1920 x 1080 high definition with the 1/3.2" 3.3Mp Full HD CMOS Sensor. This sensor provides high color resolution and reproduction for stunning video and still images each and every time. The RGB Primary Color Filter separates light into red, green and blue for rich, natural tones that are true-to-life. This HD CMOS sensor also proves exceptional in light-low situations as well.
DIGIC DVII Image Processor
DIGIC DVII, unlike its predecessor DIGIC DV, is specially designed for HD image capture. Your video and still images will look better than ever in HD thanks to improved color reproduction for skin tones and light and dark situations. This processor also reduces image noise with two types of noise reduction for clean, crisp video and stills. There's more, the DIGIC DVII also provides for faster shooting of still images - up to 5 (3.1Mp) images per second.
SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization
Canon's own SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) corrects for a variety of camera motion, not just hand shake. Fast vibrations, like a moving car, medium-speed motion when hand hold recording, and the slower motion of body sway are all accounted for. Even shooting at long focal lengths SuperRange OIS comes through with a clean, stable shot.
Instant AF
The Instant AF on the HF10 uses an external sensor along with Canon's auto focus system to ensure that you get the clear, accurate images that are crucial when recording in HD.
24p Cinema Mode
By changing the camera's frame capture rate to 24p you can give your video that film-look with the 24p Cinema Mode. The CINE setting will further enhance your video by increasing richness in color and tone. Use both settings together or separately to create your desired look and feel.
30p Progressive Mode
Usually only found in the professional camera market 30p Progressive Mode allows you to shoot at 30p as opposed to the standard video frame rate of 60i. Use this function for video you plan to post to the Internet or for action shots and see the difference!
Mini HDMI Terminal
The Mini HDMI Terminal allows you to share HD video and audio via one cable for impressive playback quality on your TV.
Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe
The Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe lets you add video lights, flashes and external microphones to the HF-10 without having to navigate extra cords or batteries.
2.7" Multi-Angle Vivid Widescreen LCD
The widescreen LCD display of the HF-10 presents accurate, clear images each and every time, especially helpful when you are composing or sharing video with friends or family on playback. A wider range of viewing angles also helps. The hard coat AR surface and improved color reproduction helps ensure that what you capture is truer to the actual scene.
12x HD Video Zoom Lens
The HD Video Lens with 12x optical zoom demonstrates the quality Canon's lenses are known for. Capture every moment with three pre-set zoom speeds for smooth, accurate close-up and zoom shots. The Super spectra coating protects your images from the flare and glare that plagues video and stills, especially when shooting outdoors. Clean, accurate video and higher resolution are thanks to the new aspheric lens design that decreases aberration and increases resolution while the new gradation ND system corrects the image when recording in bright situations.
PictBridge
Share and print your still images with the touch of the button using a PictBridge compatible printer via the included USB cable.
Quick Start
Never miss the moment again because you're waiting for your camcorder to start up. Pressing the Quick Start button once keeps your camera in sleep mode. When you're ready to start recording just hit the button again and you can start recording in under a second.
Microphone Input Jack
Virtually extinct in the consumer camcorder market the microphone input makes a comeback on the HF-10 for recording audio with an external mic for superb clarity.
Wireless Remote
Use the wireless remote to control the camcorder when you're using a tripod or just want to be in the picture too.

    Canon 2573B003AA reviews

VIXIA HF-10 AVCHD 16GB Dual Flash Memory/SDHC Memory HD Camcorder is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 99.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hi Def in a small package I bought this camcorder to take on trips where I don't want to carry a pro camcorder. But I have ended up using it on a project for interviews! And the HD footage from this camera, when converted to SD, matches the rest of the footage in the project nicely, in spite of the compact size and low price tag. Definite plus: Mic input (and headphone jack) and manual audio level control. And the manual/auto focus controls on this camera are far easier to use than what I see on many other cameras. For me that clinched the deal. This is camcorder gives me some pro features in a consumer priced package. This camcorder also works flawlessly with my Mac and FinalCut pro.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent camcorder. Small, hence somewhat difficult to hold as I keep hitting the record button by mistake. Most likely matter of getting used to it. Good indoor performance in regular lighting. Poor battery performance with supplied batter, but impossible to purchase a higher capacity battery as all retailers have them back ordered. Needed to purchase a portable memory card reader to download pictures and videos when travelling without a computer as its memory is quickly used up. The bundled software for video editing is useless and can only make DVDs in DVD-R format! Video files are in .mts file format, hence not easy to view the video with typical software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from small cam - great image I saw many pictures of it before buying, but when it arrived, it surprized me, because its smaller than I thought. The picture quality is perfect. Editing ACVHD is easier than I thought. Pixela is a simple solution that works, and now I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 7 (it works with AVCHD). I have no Full HD TV yet, nor blueray player or burner. But I can see the result on my computer. I think it is a goode idea starting shooting right now in HD. I burn SD DVDs and keep the original HD files to burn in the future. BUT ... buy another battery. I order from Brazil and received after 25 days, with no further tax. Great BH !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mini Workhorse Used the Camcorder to video a 5,000 mile off-road rally in Africa. HF10 performed admirably in very difficult conditions. Liked: Image quality; swivel screen; intuitive menus; image stabilizer; night mode; and general low-light performance. Didn't like: no viewfinder; doesnt come with a battery charger Other things of note: Buy the Wide Angle converter(WD-H37C II). Kept in on the camera the whole time. Buy the larger battery. Also used the DM100 mic and the sound turned out great. You will also need at least one 16gb SD card. Overall, I'm very happy with the unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from video format not as compatible... video file format not as compatible as i was led to believe. the reviews all around were that it was VERY mac friendly, but that is ONLY (apparently) if you have the latest mac with iMovie 08, so i am SOL. i bought pinnacle PC software to edit on my wife's PC, so that works ok, but at the expense of not really getting the HDTV video output out. overall the HD part is overrated, i could have paid half as much and gotten the similar camera for less. that said, we DO love everything else about this camera, only the HD part is useless to us, we couldn't even get the HDMI cable at our local store, so are using the analog cable supplied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I love it! I use the Vixia HF-10 for semi-professional purposes (promotional/training videos), but I use it mostly for fun. It has all the features that allow me full control of my productions, such as manual control of the audio input, focus and exposure; plus, the remote control lets me do all of this without searching for tiny buttons/controls on the camera. I can't believe Canon could pack so much in a camera so tiny. And it's high-def! I just love this camera! (And, it works beautifully with my MacBook Pro and Final Cut Express! Just plug it in and go!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great HD video I use this video camera with a MacBook Pro, iMovie for capture, and Final Cut for editing. I don't use any of Canon's software yet. The process for importing is fast and easy thanks to AVCHD support. Video quality I get is beyond any other camera I have tried - color is tremendous, and frame-by-frame accuracy is amazing when shooting race cars at over 100 m.p.h.; I also use this camera for in-car race footage, and it captures great video so long as the mount is of high-enough quality to eliminate vibrations. I am surprised by how well the built-in microphone blocks wind noise when in-car. Battery life is about normal to what I'd expect; I would love more battery life but unfortunately we have only what technology can give us in anything along this line and price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent 24P HD mini-camera Purchased this camcorder for B-Roll cutaways in awkward filming locations where our Sony F900R might attract attention. We also needed it for behind-the-scenes footage of commercial projects. The 24P 1080 images from the HF-10 are excellent. You must use the highest quality record settings and set the custom menu to low contrast, low saturation, low brightness (gamma) and low sharpening. Set the shutter to 1/48th. We import the HF-10's files into Final Cut which converts them ProResHQ quicktime files. We then use Apple's Compressor to remove the 3-2 pulldown. (The HF-10 only records 1080i, so 24P mode has pulldown added.) You need to buy a couple extra batteries. Low light performance is outstanding. This new Canon CMOS imager is almost immune to vertical line smearing on highlights. Instead it creates a slight star effect at 45 degrees on bright highlights that looks intentional and acceptable. The AVCHD encoding is excellent and superior to HDV at similar data rates. Canon doesn't mention it, but the mini-HDMI connector on the side actually outputs non-compressed 1080i video with embedded audio when the camera is outputting a live video image. The HF-10 does have some negatives... The manual focus method is almost impossible to use on a moving object. The auto focus system seems slow to react to a new scene or a rapidly changing scene. The 12x1 lens is good and sharp, but I'd rather see a wider lens at the expense of the telephoto end. You'll probably want to purchase a wide angle adapter lens. Also, turn the audio attenuator mode on as the camera can be overloaded by loud street sounds. If you record to an SDHC memory card make sure it's at least a Class 4 or higher. These cards can be ejected and played back from the SD slot of Panasonic latest BluRay players. Overall, I've never seen a tiny camera produce a better 1080 image.
