Roland UA-1010 overview

  • 1Description

The OCTA-CAPTURE UA-1010 from Roland is a high-speed USB 2.0 audio interface that features 10 inputs, 10 outputs, 8 VS PREAMPS, and 24-bit/192 kHz audio quality. Designed for high-level audio production, it combines premium components, quality engineering, along with proprietary preamp and streaming technology.

An Auto Sensing function automatically sets the recording level of each input to the best setting after analyzing the audio input during a specified interval of time. A software compressor is available per channel, and a reverb processor can be accessed by individual channel sends.

With its compact design and pristine audio quality, the unit is not only the perfect interface for multi-channel computer-based production, but also a great solution for expanding the I/O capability of the V-STUDIO 700 and V-STUDIO 100. The interface includes production software from Cakewalk.

Microphone Preamps
  • 8 premium-grade digitally controlled microphone preamps (VS PREAMPS), built with the same high-grade components as the preamps in the V-STUDIO 700 and M-400 V-Mixer
  • 8 XLR inputs are provided for the preamps, plus independent phantom power, low-cut filter, phase invert, and digital compression for each channel
Auto Input Level Adjustment
  • Set perfect input levels - simply activate the AUTO-SENS feature with the push of a button, play your connected instruments, and OCTA-CAPTURE automatically sets the ideal recording level for each input
  • Great for quick, fail-safe audio capture when recording either a fully mic'd drum kit or an entire band
Extreme Low-Latency Driver
  • Offers incredible stability and industry-leading low-latency USB performance via Roland's proprietary VS STREAMING technology
  • All current Mac and PC DAW platforms are supported through ASIO 2.0/WDM (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers
  • Using VS STREAMING, you can use multiple devices (two OCTA-CAPTURE units or one OCTA-CAPTURE plus a V-STUDIO 100 or V-STUDIO 700) on the same USB bus without compromising stability, performance, or audio quality
Flexible Monitor Mixes
  • 4 independent Direct Mixers for creating software-controlled monitor mixes
  • Each mix can be routed to any of the analog outputs and can take advantage of the internal 40-bit DSP processing - perfect for sending custom monitor mixes to headphones, speakers, or recording devices

  • Rackmount ears included
  • Bundled with Cakewalk Production Plus Pack software

    Roland UA-1010 reviews

OCTA-CAPTURE UA-1010 - High Speed USB Audio Interface is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good so far Haven't had a chance for any serious work with it yet. Hooked up to both Macs fine (black MacBook, Mac Pro); note that you're required to install the Roland driver for the Mac to recognize it. Successfully recorded 4 simultaneous tracks with both machines, with both GarageBand and Logic. The reverb is basic, but sounds good. Missed the fact that it doesn't have EQ- it acts like a mixer, with compression and efx, so you'd expect at least minimal EQ. The computer-based control panel is easy to use. The front panel... not so much. It's pretty good, but the button and knob functions and use are not immediately intuitive or obvious.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding piece of gear! I had one of these already and have been happily using it for months. I bought this one to slave to the other unit and give me 16 channels of input/output. Other than a still unresolved glitch somewhere that won't let me play back channels 1 and 2 on the 2nd unit, it's working well. The Octa-Capture just does what it's supposed to do with very low latency. Coupled with Cubase Elements It's the best multi-channel recording environment I've ever used. I wouldn't recommend using it with anything less than an i3 or i5 level quad core processor though. Most of the complaints I've seen on the internet are by people with older/slower dual core processors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great nerve center for my home studio I am using this interface for audio in and out for recording and home entertainment. The Octa-Capture was the easiest piece of audio hardware I have ever installed. The drivers seem very stable. I am playing software synths at very low latency and recording input from condenser and dynamic mics, plus a keyboard and guitar. I am routing the outputs to monitor speakers, headphones and amps. This was all very easy to setup in the hardware, on the included mixer program and in my DAW program. The preamps are clean and have plenty of gain, even for my SM-57 that usually needs an extra boost in my experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great device: quality, features & price Good multichannel input interface for acoustic measurement and sound system testing. Good multichannel output/playback interface for laboratory or presentation use. AISO drivers & control panel work very well and integrate with DAW software under Windows 7 64-bit. Direct mixer and virtual patch panel features are very powerful, but not well documented in the manual. Allow extra time to configure and test this device! Front-panel controls can adjust all parameters, but are typically cumbersome; use the software control panel instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Octa-Capture is better than I expected! I bought the Octa-capture to record my acoustic nylon guitar. I use two microphones, and send the signals to my tube pre-amp, then to the Octa-capture. Octa-capture drivers installed easily on Windows 7(64). Reaper immediately recognized Octa-Capture. Octa-Capture has a clear, serviceable LCD. Octa-capture's knob-plus-LCD commands are easy for me to understand and perform. Instruction manual is written by a competent writer. It is clear and helpful. Octa-capture operates simply (really, this is my first interface, and within one hour, I unpacked the box, installed the software, selected Octa-capture as Reaper's output device, and recorded music). NO latency! Reaper recorded exactly what I heard. Sounds beautiful. The XLR/1/4 combination jacks give me many options. The eight OUTPUTS give me many options. I love having some inputs on Octa-capture's front, and some on Octa-capture's back. The included USB cable is about 7' long. The unit is small and light, yet seems well made.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Weak gain, noisy Had a chance to compare Octa-Capture and Focusrite 18i8. Although, Roland's interface was more compact, had more features and looked fancier, I went with Focusrite. Comparing the two, Scarlett 18i8 had more gain (important in case of Shure SM7B mic) and was less noisy. It was rather disappointing to hear Octa-Capture's very pronounced noise though SM7B mic wasn't close to its normal level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT PRODUCT I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY HOME RECORDING STUDIO AND IT'S PERFECT....I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS...THE SOUND IS EXACTLY WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE...CLEAR AND TRANSPARENT LIKE RECORDING SHOULD BE....EASY DRIVER INSTALL...DAW RECOGNIZED IT RIGHT AWAY(FL STUDIO)....I USE IT MAINLY FOR GUITARS AND VOCALS BUT I'M SURE WITH THE RIGHT MICS I CAN DO DRUMS NO PROBLEM....IT'S BUILT VERY WELL(MADE IN JAPAN, NOT CHINA).IF YOU'RE A NOOB I SUGGEST YOU READ THE MANUAL, BUT IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE....
