    Nikon HB-50 reviews

HB-50 Bayonet Lens Hood for 28-300mm Lens is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Yet another Lens Hood! I bought the 28-300 VR DX lens which as usual is a great product that I am very pleased with, however the lens hood that comes with Nikon products is made from a brittle plastic that cracks if you breath near it! It also has specially designed holes in the side to weaken an already poorly designed product. For the life of me I cannot understand why they dont make the lens hoods from nylon or hard rubber or is it too much to ask that a FX lens and accessories can stand up to being placed in a camera bag!! the same thing has happened on 2 of my 4 Nikon Lenses and at $20-30 each it gets old!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love the Lens, Hood's Teeth Are Weak I broke down and bought this as a replacement after trying other, more robust alternative lens hoods for the fabulous Nikon 28-300mm lens. Everything else I tried vignetted at the wide angle side of the zoom. So the optical engineering of this hood is right. What is wrong is the flimsy grasping teeth of the hood to the lens. It is easy to bump the hood while the hood is attached to the lens and have one or more teeth chip off. As a result, the hood now more-or-less stays on the lens, but too often goes rolling off on to the ground or wherever, and thereby cheapening the overall experience of a truly remarkable lens. On top of that, this lens hood is expensive no matter where you buy it and often it's out of stock. But so far, this hood is the best solution for this particular lens. Just be extra careful with your lens when you have this hood attached!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite as good... A lens hood is a lens hood; right? This replacement for the original - which I admit I clumsily broke - is better than the one which came with the lens, but still not quite right. The original was much looser fitting than it should have been. So much so, that it was easily dislodged. This one is a bit tighter, but still not quite right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Required equipment w/optional price Dear B&H, Ok, I like so many others am sure have lost my camera lens hood. I found myself depressed when I checked out several websites and in store prices for a replacement. Other sites cost more then I was able to afford at that time, or sold only off brand items and or, it wasn't the right hood for my lens. One website took me hours to even find the hood and it was still too expensive. I thought it was going to be a lost cause. Then I thought about B&H! So I looked it up and it was easy to search for (28-300 Nikon lens hood). The right brand, the right hood, as well as half cost of the other websites. The best part of the story was; Three days after I received my new hood in the mail, a friend called me up stating that I had left my original lens hood at his house. Now I have a spare that I didn't over pay for. Thank you B&H. Sincerely, Joseph A. Williams Denver, CO

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Bought this as a replacement to the one that came with the lens. That's the only reason I don't give it five stars -- I just wish it were more durable. I've shot with the lens hood on all my shots with the lens. It does the job, and conveniently reverses and collapses to nothing when I'm not shooting. It's light weight and tough. It

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review of the Nikon HB-50 Lens Hood This HB-50 lens hood came with my new Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens and I would say that the lens hood is now way better than the original HB-50 lens hood for the Nikkor 28-300mm FX lens where people complain that the hood easily becomes loose as shown in this YouTube video: I have to give credit to Nikon for fixing the loose lens hood. The new HB-50 is even tighter than the Vello HB-50F Dedicated Lens Hood with Filter Access Panel which I also bought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High price but fit I lost mine in a crowed market overseas. I am surprised how much it cost when search online.B&H is cheaper than * sellers. I have difficult time shooting night shot without it, too much glare on the lens. So I ordered one oneline before I return home.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needed because of an Elephant... Had to replace my hood because it was knocked off when riding an elephant - it fell into a river in Thailand, and I wasn't in a position to dive in and retrieve it. As others have noted, while it's OEM, it does not stay locked in place well.
