    Canon BG-E9 reviews

BG-E9 Battery Grip for EOS 60D is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 250.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have if using IS and heavy lenses This grip is permanently installed on my camera and is wonderful. Like many of the other reviewers have stated, it does make the camera a bit heavier. However, you NEED to get this grip if you have a large IS lens (70-200mm 2.8 L IS or the like) I found that the IS would drain the battery quickly. It also provides an extra bit of handle to control the camera with heavier lenses. Upon opening the box, the installation of the handle was incredibly simple (no directions needed) and took a whole two minutes to install. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for the next level of functionality out of their 60D

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition There are several attributes this battery grip add to your camera. 1) Balance -- the added weight balances the some heavy kit lens and long zooms, 2) vibration dampening -- along with IS, the weight serves to dampen vibrations and camera movement, 3) Battery life -- having two batteries insted of one and having the ability to use AA's exends shooting time, 4) Portrait shooting -- having the essential controls duplicated on the grip allows the camera to be held in portrait position without changing hand postions. All-in-all these features add up to to make an optional attachement that soon becomes a necessity once you have used one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent additon I purchased the grip for two primary reasons, the ability to run AA batteries in the even of not having any Canon batteries charged and to make shooting with vertical shots more comfortable. The grip does both of these tasks just as expected. I've also found that it gives a little extra support to the bottom of the palm and creates an overall nicer handhold when shooting regular horzintal shots as well. Deffinately worthile upgrade, especially at the price here on B&H.About the only gripe, and it's a minor one, you can sometimes roll the grip mounted dial with your palm by accident. This would seem to be something that simply requires getting used too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn't I get this sooner? For a filmmaker, I've found two big advantages to using this battery grip on my Canon 60D: 1. When using the camera on a professional fluid head video tripod, it raises the center of gravity so that the camera will balance on the head (DSLRs are too light to balance otherwise on most heads, even with an average telephoto lens). 2. The batteries last long enough to actually finish a shoot. Bonus: now I don't run out of juice halfway through that important time lapse. And it comes with two battery compartments - one that accepts two rechargeable batteries, and one that accepts 6 AA batteries. So you've always got a backup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every cent/ Don't go Cheap This feels and looks part of the camera. I took it off and the camera felt tiny and off balance. The portrait buttons work great and the dial is out of the way. It looks way better thatn some of my friends off brand battery grips. They all thought it felt substantially more solid and sturdier than others as well. I looked at the cheaper half price ones but this has the exact matching grip textures and body feel. It's solid. Stores the battery cover. Includes a nice extra canon bag to store the optional battery compartment. For the 60D it's a small investment. If you sell it later it will keep its value. It's nice and worth the price. I have large hands and it feels wonderful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made, well featured, purpose-built. Firstly, this is definitely not an accessory to take with you in situations where light weight is important. If travelling, for instance, simply buying a second battery and keeping in charged and ready in your bag may be the best way to expand your battery capacity. That said, for long portrait shoots from a tripod, this accessory is great. While the expanded battery capacity is a useful feature, the real utility is in the addition of primary controls to the camera's body that allow it to be operated comfortably while shooting for long periods of time with vertical framing. High build quality, good ergonomics and control placement, and perfect fit and materials matching make this grip the ideal choice for Canon's 60D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have! Adding this on to my 60D kit was and is great. I have big hands and since adding the grip I have not wanted to take it off because it feels much better in the hand. Adding the grip also makes taking portrait shots a lot easier. Also, the added battery life is great for me since I work for my school newspaper and cover a lot of long sports games and rally's and such. Lastly the feel of the battery grip is very similar to the 60D's which makes it even better. Definitely a good addition to any 60D kit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny over the 3rd Party I am a profession photographer and cinematographer working primarily with HDSLRs. I have owned an array of camera bodies and have used the third party brands to save budget. Due to the plasticity of these other brands they fail to support the cameras solidly on a tripod or rig. The electronics also interfere with camera operations and even stop work at times due to error codes. This canon grip, however is as solid as the camera itself and does not feel like an extension piece, but part of the camera itself. Very solidly build, all battery readings come through clearly with precise estimates. All of the electronics behave and perform as they should and batteries do not drain whilst not in use. This is a purchase you can feel very good about.
