Lowepro LP36282 overview

  • 1Description

The Lowepro S&F Technical Harness (Black) is designed for a photojournalist or photographer who needs go light and move fast when covering an event. This lightweight, supportive and flexible design must be worn with the Lowepro S&F Light Utility Belt or the S&F Deluxe Technical Belt to relieve the weight of heavier loads. It also fits a Street & Field #13 Deluxe Waistbelt, large. It is made from 600 denier polyester, 1680 denier nylon, 420 denier AZ Dobby nylon and Dry Flo mesh outer fabrics.

The S&F technical Harness uses SlipLock attachment loops to allow the attachment of compatible S&F or Lowepro SlipLock products. There are lapel strap keepers that secure a camera strap to the harness at the shoulders via a sturdy snap which fully integrates with optional S&F Utility Laptop Backpack 100 AW to create a comprehensive working system. It is ideal for a sports photographer or journalist, when the backpack is attached to the harness with a belt via straps and SlipLock loops. A detachable handle cup and restraint straps quickly convert the harness to a backpack allowing the photographer to carry an additional Lowepro shoulder bag. There is a sternum strap with built-in safety whistle that adjusts for a comfortable, snug fit.

Note: This harness cannot be used alone.

S&F Technical Harness is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Technically Awesome I shoot documentaries in developing countries where it is important to always have your camera. I used the S&F system on my last trip, and it made a huge difference! I was able to know the camera was available when I wanted it, but could zip it up and be sure that stuff wouldn't leave me without knowing it. My previous system meant that I either had the camera out, or it was packed away. It took a lot of time to unpack and start shooting again. With the S&F system I could go from packed to shooting in seconds. I wore the system all week and didn't have any complaints. The weight was well distributed, and I wasn't worried about breaking anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy duty action The Technical Harness is a great supplement to the Lowepro Technical Belt and bags like Lowepro Toploader Pro 75 AW to bring more gear to the action. You may need one or more Lowepro Lens Cases additional to the Toploader. Great for shooting skiing, climbing, trekking and being able to take part in the action. I have used Lowepro camera bags since the 1980s. They always deliver performance and quality, and are hard to wear out. I have also received great service like free buckle replacements etc. I consider Lowepro products better than insurance for my valuable gear!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Useful Very useful, has many connectors and places to attach things, while providing some additional support for the belt. NOTE: YOU CANNOT USE IT WITHOUT THE BELT - so be sure you have one before you buy this. It's is kind of bulky and strange to wear. After a lot of readjusting I think it will be ok. I wish that it came with an instruction manual, or that someone would make a good video explaining how it should have been connected, as it took me a while to figure out. Being bulky w/belt attached, I have to wear it out for photos rather than just throwing it in my day bag. As a result, I don't take it unless I'm going to be in specific situations, but I do wish I could take it with more often.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rubs the back of your neck The top of the harness is cut too high. It rubs against the back of your neck. it might work for you if you put no weight on the front straps. It is a poor design in my opinion. It should have two straps in the back to attach to the belt. Then the weight would be on you shoulders, and not on the back of your neck.It gives me a sore neck. YMMV.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not perfect The S&F Technical Harness (TH) is the leanest of the Lowepro shoulder carriers and the most suitable for hot weather (the remaining two models are more vest-like). A belt is indispensable to use the TH. The Lowepro literature shows the TH attached to either a S&F Deluxe Technical Belt or a S&F Light Utility Belt. While it is easy to attach the TH to a Deluxe Technical Belt and it works well there, forget about using it with a Light Utility Belt - it simply takes too much effort and swearing to attach it, and does not sit quite right (you cannot use the same hoops where the D-rings sit, and are forced to attach the harness to the inside hoops through which the belt passes). With the proper belt and belt packs/holsters, the TH works fine and helps a lot distributing the weight. I would definitely not use a modular belt without some kind of shoulder support, and the TH is the best I have tried in the sense that weight is well carried while my upper body does not feel imprisoned within a tight vest. Although my experience with the TH is mostly positive, this equipment is not perfect. The D-rings on the shoulder straps of the TH are placed too high (a second set placed lower would be more useful). The hoops to attach modular components to the shoulder straps are also too high (also in this case I could use a second set placed much lower, like on the vests). The plastic clips that attach the TH to the belt do not seem so strong, and definitely are not designed to be closed and opened on a regular basis. Metal carabiners would be more appropriate. The C-shaped strap to attach a bag's handle at the rear of the harness where the shoulder straps join has a tendency to rotate downward. Rather than attaching a generic bag to this strap to carry it backpack-wise, I would try to find a bag (or a light backpack with non-padded shoulder straps) that can attach instead to the two oblique webbing hoops located nearby.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good way to carry photography gear. I use the harness along with the lightweight belt and assorted pouches to carry my photography gear in the woods and fields. Similar to Vietnam era Alice web gear, only better. It takes some repositioning of the various pouches to get the system to balance with your load just like military web gear. A good system for field work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for holding up the belt The harness is designed to function as a belt holder, pure and simple. It has no use by itself, so if you can wear one of the S&F belts without the need of additional support, this product is lost on you. Being trim through the waist and hip, I require it to keep the belt with attached goodies on my person; I also like the additional weight distribution. I chose the harness over the vest b/c the fit of the vest wasn't great which resulted in extraneous mesh getting in the way. It's not as sleek as the vest, with the trade-off of covering much less surface area. I highly recommend trying both products (if you are able) to select the best fit for your situation. Getting the adjustment right takes a bit of doing, which is the worst thing about it. Otherwise it's a solid product. I use an R-strap on top of the harness and it works OK--do not try to use the built in strap loops if doing this--I haven't tried it with a neck strap. Overall, it does what I need it to, but not in a flat-out exceptional way; I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. If the vest is a good fit for you, then it's probably the better option in terms of adjustment and weight distribution.
