Celestron's X-Cel LX 9mm Eyepiece is designed for comfortable near and deep-space astronomical observation. It is built with a 6-element lens configuration, blackened edges, and anti-reflective fully multi-coated optical surfaces to ensure bright and clear high-contrast images with true color transmission across the entire wide 60° field of view. Celestron engineered the X-Cel LX series of eyepieces with a long 16mm eye relief that brings the user's face back from the scope to minimize vibrations caused by contact with the eyepiece. All eyepieces in the series are completely parfocal, making switching eyepieces convenient by not requiring re-focusing. With a 1.25" diameter barrel, it will fit the most common size drawtubes, visual backs, and accessories; and a rubberized collar provides a non-slip grip especially in cold weather and when wearing gloves. The housing is made of a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy with a reflection-limiting matte anodized finish, and a retractable eyecup that extends with a simple twist for comfortable use with or without eyewear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice I like this one on my Skyscope 90mm.I got this occular to go with it and Jupiter,Saturn,M42 are just really nice.I use a celestron barlow with it. The moon is incredible. Being such a wide view,i get more time watching till i have to move the scope, less colour fringing, great contrast and black background and colour.Pretty sharp for my old eyes as well.. I am very very happy with this purchase. B&H service nomal excellence

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear views with quality optics. I've been using this eyepiece to view Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Earth's Moon and some terrestrial objects. I haven't had an opportunity to get out of the city to see any deep space objects yet. With the telescope I'm using (Celestron NexStar 5SE) I'm getting 139x magnification. Mars is just a red dot but Saturn and Jupiter are big enough anywhere in the field of view to show some of their moons, details in the clouds and Saturn's rings. The Cassini division is obvious even at this medium magnification. Earth's Moon is spectacularly clear with good detail of craters and mare. Be sure to use a filter so it's not so bright. I like the 60 field of view, twist up eyecup, long eye relief and the fact that it is easy to handle. And it just fits with the thumb screws on my stock 90 Star Diagonal. When my eye gets too close to the lens, without the twist up eye cup up (that's fun to say) I do experience the blackout or kidney beaning that I've read about from other reviewers. But the eye cup can be adjusted to where I like it to keep that from happening. I did experience some ghosting of light when viewing the edge of the Moon, but I think that was because of the variable polarizing filter I was using and not the eyepiece. When the moon filled most of the field of view the ghosting was not present. Not having experience with more expensive eyepieces I am extremely happy with this eyepiece. Buy one today! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear crisp views The 9mm eyepiece was purchased to replace a 0.965 eyepiece on an older telescope. This eyepiece rejuvenated a telescope that was kept mostly for sentimental reasons. The front lens cell on the scope is actually pretty good, but the original small diagonal and Huygens eyepiece prevented using this 'scope anything but moon observation. Now with a decent diagonal and this eyepiece, the telescope delivers crisp and three dimensional views of the moon and can now be used for deeper observation. The quality for the price makes this a real buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good I don't have very deep experience with eyepieces. All I have used are 25mm Orion Sirius Plossl and some other very cheap EPs. However, this one is way better than what I have used. It feels very solid and made of quality material. Its AFOV is really large. Compared to 25 mm EP, this 9mm has lower contrast but this is expected. It is very sharp and bright. I think it is worth the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good eyepiece-good price I purchased this eyepiece to go with my celestron xlt 120. I was hoping that with the xlt 120 and the 9mm eyepice I could get a great view of Jupiter. The 9mm makes it where the bands on Jupiter are barely visible with my xlt 120. I suggest going with the 5mm if you have the Celestron xlt 120. The 5mm is also the one that the rep at Celestron recomemmended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good mid level eyepiece I use this eyepiece with 10 Dob, 6 SCT and 6 Refractor. Gives good views to edge of field w/acceptable eye relief. Great value for the money. A little sensitive to eye placement and some may experience blackout. Very easy to live with within its limitations. Do not expect this to perform like a high dollar eyepiece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again I've only been able to check this out on Terrestrial and Lunar observations. The views are fantastic. Eye placement seems to be more clitical than my HD-60, but it seems to be pretty easy to find the sweet spot with the twist up eye cups. It compliments my 6.5mm HD-60 for grabbing different eyepieces in the dark.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bigger than I thought it would be! Got it in the mail and was surprised by how big it was. but it looks well made. Haven't used it yet, but am looking forward to using iota the next couple of days. Comes well packaged as well!
