Hoodman HGEC1 overview

  • 1Description

Wearing glasses while looking through your camera's viewfinder has always been a challenge, but this Glasses HoodEYE Eyecup from Hoodman more than meets the challenge. This oversized eyecup accommodates HoodEYE use with glasses and links your eye to the camera for improved viewfinder optics. A unique self-locking mount system keeps the HoodEYE eyecup securely in place, and the eyecup rotates to accommodate both right- and left-eyed shooters. It fits any of the Hoodman Eyecups, which (between the 5 models) fit all Canon and Nikon digital SLR cameras.  One of the 5 HoodEYE Eyecups (not included) is required to use this Glasses HoodEYE eyecup.

This eyecup offers improved viewfinder use with glasses

    Hoodman HGEC1 reviews

Glasses HoodEYE Eyecup is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dissapointed in Uxbridge When I first ordered the HoodEYE Eyecup I was sent only the rubber eyepiece, no attaching clip. When I reordered I received the correct item. However, the plastic portion that attaches to the Nikon viewfinder was so small ( tight ) that it took all my strength to install it. It is too tight to conveniently use. Other than that it works well with glasses. If you have a better attachment please forward one. I own the HoodEYE H-RAV viewfinder. It works well and fits well. If the eyecup had this attachment it would be perfect. I would use it on a Nikon D7000 if I could get it on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wonderful solution for eyeglass wearers Several benefits....blocks out the light better, more comfortable for eyeglass wearers, fewer chances of scratching your eyeglasses, glasses stay cleaner and you don't fog up your LCD with your breath when its brutally cold outside...Have em on all my camera bodies...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needed For Best Fit to My Face Bought the regular eyecup because you need it to affix this eyecup to the viewfinder. Only the rubber hood is provided. It is a tough pull off - pull on but once on, it is secure. I was looking for a way to maximize stabilization of my camera. If you wear glasses of any real size, this larger eyecup will still not provide a tight fit. However, I was able to set my diopter to see the screen without glasses and this eyecup fits firmly. Note the cup may require a slight downward rotation on the viewfinder to get best fit. The maker should emphasize the larger cup can be rotated 90 degrees and the larger part of the cup pushed up toward the hot shoe to move the cup out of the way of the viewfinder. This allows access to the viewfinder when indoors or in low light situations. This is very helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stops smeary glasses I have oily skin and when I remove my glasses to look through the viewfinder, my glasses invariably, somehow, get smeared. The Glasses HoodEYE solves this problem because I never have to remove my glasses to look through the viewfinder. It can rotate for vertical shots. The only downside is that it partially blocks the live view screen. Will buy another for my other body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally! Finally something that accommodates photographers who wear glasses! This is a great little device. I have purchased two other Hoodman products and they are just plain handy little gizmos. Not complicated, just useful. And lightweight...and durable!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works Works like they say. Takes some getting use too, and blocks some of the LCD screen. Cost I think is a little high just for the plastic cup, but if you have glasses and want to take full advantage of the hoodeye, then you might just want this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not Great The eyecup is flexible and fits snuggly on my 5d Mk II, but it is not deep enough to really shield the viewfinder from the effects of the sun. It does make a difference, about 75% better, but far from perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps my glasses from getting scratched This eyepiece makes it so much easier to use with glasses. I used to worry I was going to ruin my $400 of prescription sunglasses, but now I don't worry at because of the soft rubber cup.
