Canon 2562A007AA overview

  • 1Description

The EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens from Canon is a compact and lightweight zoom lens that offers superior optical performance plus a built-in Image Stabilizer. The IS system reduces blurred photographs caused by camera shake and allows for handheld photography in comparatively dim light without a flash or tripod. At the wide-angle end of the zoom range, the equivalent shutter speed gain is approximately 1.5 stops while at the telephoto end, it is approximately 2 stops.

In addition, the lens has an Ultrasonic Autofocus Motor (USM) for faster and quieter AF operation, and the pulse control diaphragm (EMD) ensures precise aperture control. manual focus override is supported for precise manual control even in AF mode. The minimum focus distance throughout the zoom range is 20".

The Optical Image Stabilization (IS) system is composed of a pair of gyro sensors to detect vertical and horizontal motion and a microprocessor that compensates for this motion by shifting special lens elements in parallel with the perceived movement. The IS system reduces blur in images shot in dim light and at long focal lengths.
The internal focusing mechanism allows the front of the lens to remain stationary and to easily accommodate specialty filters, such as polarizing filters.
An Ultrasonic Autofocus Motor (USM) provides fast, smooth and quiet autofocus action which is particularly important when shooting video with this lens.

    Canon 2562A007AA reviews

EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 422.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a kit lens I use this lens for walk-around use and am completely satisfied. The bokeh is wonderful, this IS works great, very sharp IQ (up to 100% crop), and wonderful colors. The downsides are: the front element is slightly loose, the zoom does creep when pointed down, and the weight (as compared with the Canon cheapies) is rather heavy. If you want good quality pictures that you can post-process, buy this lens. If you just want to use your dslr as a point and shoot, this is probably not the lens you want. For the photog looking to take some incredible pictures and experiment a bit, but on a really tight budget, this is the lens you want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Favorite Lens! I purchased this lens for a friend as a gift for his wife. She had seen mine and mentioned that she wanted the same lens. I've had mine for so long, I'm not sure when I bought it, but it is a great all around lens. It gives you a good wide angle, but also a perfect focal length for taking people pictures. A great lens when you just want to keep it simple for the day. I help teach a photography class and almost everyone who has ever taken the class has this lens. We consistently recommend it as a core piece of equipment. In almost 20 years, it is one of the lenses I would never give up; great pictures, great quality equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice lens, but... This lens is pretty sharp, and give me some good results, sometimes even great results. Overall it's contrasty enough, and it's at least as bright as I would expect it to be for the maximum aperture. It has terrible zoom creep. As a matter of fact, creep doesn't even begin to describe it. If you tilt the camera past about 55 to 60 degrees, the lens just falls immediately to maximum zoom. And with a very loud thunk. I don't use the camera in the studio, so I'm not walking away from it and expecting it to hold the zoom, and when I pick it up I can immediately zoom it back to where I want, but it's at best mildly annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens For A Great Price! ...I purchased this lens to be my main lens for my Canon 5D Mk II, as it is versatile and covers a range that encompasses the majority of my photos. I use my cameras primarily to do time-lapse sequences, and this lens is great for landscapes and night astrophotography. I realize that the maximum aperture of 3.5 is not the best for astrophotography, but the price makes up for having to leave the shutter open for another 3-5 seconds! Focusing is fast and almost silent, and the stabilization feature works very well. From all the online pricing, B&H is the lowest from a truly reputable supplier, and I would gladly recommend this lens to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the better Canon lenses This is probably Canon's most underrated lens. Compared to my 24-105L which costs 3 times as much, it weighs less, has better bokeh and a longer zoom range, which I find very useful. Compared side by side with my other lenses, the 24-105L seems a bit sharper on a per pixel level, but I was struggling to find any differences with my 17-40L. Apertures above f/16 produce sharper images than both other lenses, plus it has a maximum aperture of f/32 as opposed to f/22 on the L lenses. IS works great, focus is pretty fast, build quality is descent (there's a little play in the front lens element) and images are crisp with good color and contrast. All in all it's a great lens and for the price you won't get anything that comes near.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great walk-around lens My purchase of this lens is actually a replacement of the same lens I've been using for 13 years, which finally started having problems with the IS, and after a few bangs the lens was a little too loose. But I couldn't do without this lens because it is so versatile. I've traveled with it and gotten great wide angle shots as well as macro shots. The only thing I don't like about it is the tendency of the zoom to slide out when I tilt it down, but it's not a terrible problem, just a little annoying sometimes. The IS works great and is a boost to the overall speed of the lens. Would I buy it again? I just did! :o)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bang for your buck! I've been using this lens on an EOS 50D (as its kit lens) for over a month now. It has produced excellent results in every situation, including indoor and outdoor events, family stuff, portraits and the like. It focuses quickly and its zoom/focus rings are very well damped. Its macro capabilities are moderate. I would recommend using a higher aperture (i.e. f/8) at the 135mm because otherwise the photos turn out relatively soft. The only con about this lens has nothing to do with the lens itself; Canon shouldn't have paired this lens with cameras that have a 1.6x crop sensor since its wide angle setting is very limited (28mm*1.6=45mm).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SURPRISED! When I first received this lens I was somewhat disappointed. It is extremely light, and it appears to have a plastic mount. But my opinion changed quickly after the first shoot. This lens is a joy to use, and the image quality is excellent. I am very pleased with it, and consider it my favorite for close work. It is one of the best investments in a lens that I have made. There are two things I wish were different. The plastic mount, and it doesn't come with a hood. Vello makes an excellent inexpensive hood. I use this lens on both my 7D and 6D.
