The PocketWizard AC9 AlienBees Adapter for Canon allows remote control of AlienBees and White Lightening flash heads as well as Zeus power packs when used with a PocketWizard MiniTT1 transmitter or FlexTT5 transceiver. This version is dedicated for use with Canon cameras only.

ControlTL

PocketWizard's firmware platform taps into the full potential of your Canon camera and flash system enabling an entirely new level of remote flash capability through our proven radio communications. ControlTL firmware is configurable and upgradeable for "future-proof" continuous improvement.

Manual Power Control

When the AC9 is used with a FlexTT5 transceiver and paired with either an on-camera MiniTT1 or FlexTT5, you can adjust the power settings of your AlienBees/White Lightning flashes directly from the camera's position. This can be done with either the Flash Exposure Compensation dial or add the AC3 ZoneController for three zones of power control.

Optional ZoneControl

Use either the AC3 ZoneController or a MultiMAX radio to control up to three zones of light with as many lights in each zone as you want. Use the A-B-C zone switch on the AC9-paired FlexTT5 to assign the zone.

Optional PowerTracking

In Auto Mode, change ISO, aperture, or FEC and the lights automatically adjust their compensating power setting with PocketWizard PowerTracking. Set your AC3 ZoneController to manual and PowerTracking is turned off for absolute manual control. PowerTracking can be customized via the PocketWizard Utility.

HyperSync

HyperSync allows photographers to achieve faster X-sync speeds, all the way up to 1/8000 second*, will full power flash. Now you can cut the ambient light and use wide-open apertures, outdoors in bright sunlight. That extra speed can also freeze action, whether shooting models or athletes in motion. (*camera and flash model dependent).

Low-Profile Design

The AC9 is tiny and simply slides onto the FlexTT5 hot shoe and plugs into the remote socket on the flash using the supplied cord.

No Batteries Required

The AC9 gets its power from the paired FlexTT5.

I use the AC9 with a Flex5 to control my AlienBee B800 strobes. It allows me to control the light out from my camera miniTT1 and AC3 or my light meter. It is Quick and easy. So far I have not had a one issue.

Not thrilled about spending $ dollars for this piece but I needed it. To add, with hypersync you will get a considerable amount clipping when using high shutter speeds. If you're looking to use wide apertures I would suggest just picking up a quality ND filter as a first choice and this as a back up...

If you want your AlienBee lights to work with your Pocketwizard this is the way to go. It is simple plug and shoot. You will need a Flex TT5 or Flex Mini TT1. This will give you control of the light and allow you to use your TTL. It will not work with the Plus X or Plus III or PLus II. It would be nice if the bottom plate was not made of plastic

I bought these AC9s with my own money. I have these Flash Units. Three Alien Bee AB1600 One Alien Bee AB800 One Alien Nee AB800 Ring Flash Three Canon 580 EX II Two Canon 580 EX One Canon MT-24EX Macro Twin Lite Flash I shot a Prom a couple days ago. They wanted a straight up shoot, with a backdrop. Done. I used Two AB1600s, One AB800, one AB800 Ring Flash, and Two 580 EX II. flashes all together. It was so cool! I had a great time.

Setup was quick and easy. Need to remember to turn on the AB first then the Flex unit to make the proper connection. The control over the AB is great, specially when the AB is inside my Apollo Orb.

Will buy more when I need them!

I use the AC9 with an AlienBees B800 & it works great!I love the control of adjusting the power without having to go to the strobe to adjust its level! Used in conjunction with an AC3 controller on a TT1 transmitter, the AC 9 is connected to a TT5 transceiver.

Will not work with Vagabond Portable

I bought these units to enhance my portability away from electricity. They DO NOT work with Paul C. Buff strobes using a portable power source (per Pocketwizard & Paul C. Buff tech support) like the Vagabond series. I would have given them 5 stars had they worked for my application. When using AC power they are remarkable but be weary if you are planning to use them on portable power.

question

Anyone try this with Yongnuo YNE3-RX to control Alienbee from Canon RT system?
Asked by: Jeff
The AC9 adapter can be used with either a FlexTT5 or FlexTT6 to connect to an AlienBees or White Lightning strobe. Using a MiniTT1/FlexTT5/FlexTT6 on the camera with an AC3 ZoneController, you can adjust power to each AlienBee in 3 different Zones via the AC9. It will not communicate with a Yongnuo trigger or Canon's RT trigger.

question

Is it real the fact that they dont work with the vagabond mini?
Asked by: Anonymous
Not True. Both AC9 canon/ Nikon can work with AlienBee and Vagabond mini properly. Just remind, you do not turn-on the modeling lamp definitely so you can safe the battery life longer.
