    Canon 2531A006AA reviews

Telephoto EF 300mm f/2.8L IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 149.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from You want be sorry!!!!!!! I received my new lens today and put it straight to work. I take alot of sport action photos and it being in the middle of the day not much going on. So I went outside and started taking pictures of my kids dogs and cats. WOW!!!! I have a shot taken 25 feet away of one of their cats and when I loaded the picture for editing you can actually see me taking the picture in the reflection of the cat's eyes not to mention the detail in his hair. This lens is way more than I ever expected. After years of shoting with lesser lenes I wish I would have spent the money sooner. I will be using my new baby for candid shots at my daughters up coming wedding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable Images I bought this lens 2 weeks ago. I have been watching prices for 2 years. I finally came to the conclusion that my children were not getting any younger! You have that short window to capture their sports shots. I have been using the 70-200 2.8l(non-is) for 3 years with my !D MKIIN and was never quite satisfied with the image sharpness. This lens has produced images rivaling perfect. I thought image stabilization was only for stationary objects. The IS set to 1 on this lens captures detail during fast moving soccer matches, arguably the toughest sport to shoot. Don't waste any more time thinking about this... just get it. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best in Class Bought this lens before the new 300 2.8 IS2 totally replaced it. Read all the reviews and used a friends 300 2.8 for a few weeks before I made the (considerable) investment. Use it mostly for sports and wildlife photography. The lens is extremely sharp and the auto focus is lightening fast. The images are superb and the bokeh is buttery smooth. Much, much better that the 300 f4 it replaced. I use with my 7d and 1.4x 11. i see no image or sharpness degradation with the extender. Even though it is heavy it balances well with 7D (with battery grip) and is definitely hand holdable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This lens realy delivers This lens takes tack sharp images. It is MUCH better tha the 70-200 2.8L IS USM at 200 mm. (I have used several copies of the 70-200 2.8 IS and it has frustrated me a lot that i could not get reasnable results at 200 mm) The sharpness of this lens makes a huge difference even on a low res camera like 1 d mk3. The Boekh is not perfect at the longer focus distances nither is the AF consistensy (this is the case for all the Canon lenses i have tried). The IS is only a 2 stop and i would be nice if it was a newer 3-4 stops type but it is not big deal, the difference between no IS an 2 stop IS is much bigger than the difference between 2 and 4 stops IS I apologize for my bad spelling i'm from Denmark

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as I hoped I'm a niche shooter and one niche is maritime photography which means I need sharp images at long distances. I'd used the 100-400mm L zoom for about 3 years and loved it, but decided to invest in this one to see the difference. I love how sharp it is and the added capabilities it gives me. I hand hold it a lot, the IS is a big +, but a good tripod is essential. In sum -- Pros -- sharpness/clarity, durability, weatherproof Cons -- most would say how heavy it is, but not me; you can't get photos like this without a lens like this, and you can't make a lens like this without making it this size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORLD CLASS GLASS I bought this$ lens to give me $photos. But I ended up with a $ lens which gives me PRICELESS photos! It's in a class of it's own. No one will be able to get the photos you'll be able to nab with this monster! You'll be hailed as an elite sports photographer to which there is no equal! I use it for sports-to-weddings with fantastic results!!Once you buy it, you will never have buyers remorse!! You'll have buyers rejoice!! People say it's sharp. People say it's fast-to-focus. You will be scratching your head as to which one is more truthful!! It's SOOO sharp and focuses SOOOO fast, both are it's top qualities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Good, The Big, & The Sharp I use this lens on a Canon 7D camera for sports photography. This lens is perfect for football. It focuses quickly and produces tightly framed incredibly sharp shots in low light. It can also produce a nearly macro shot of flowers from nine feet away which has a beautiful bokeh. It is one of the sharpest lenses in the line having been refined over time and loved by all. I bought this lens just after the introduction of the new 300 F2.8 IS II with no fear of missing out on anything except the hugh cost increase of the new model. OK , maybe the new stabilizer would be interesting, but most sports photographers don't use one anyway. I have worked around many other professionals that have used this lens and produced outstanding quality shots for a long time. It will be best to use this lens with a monopod or tripod unless you have Popeye's arms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hubble Telescope Sharp My prior portrait lens was the 70-200 f2.8. Once I screwed the Camera on to this lens, I didn't want to go back. It is sharp, very, very sharp- at any f stop! This lens is super sharp wide open, and I suspect it approaches defraction limited status. Also, another benefit of this lens is better color than any other lens I have ever used, and I have owned at least thirty top lenses. seven or eight from Zeiss, eight or ten from Canon, several from Nikon, and several large format lenses. Problems Encountered: None! Previous Equivalent Items Owned: See above Items I Recommend: 1Ds
