Olympus 227665B overview

  • 1Description

The Olympus SP-800UZ Digital Camera lets you get close to the action with its 30x wide-angle 28mm zoom lens. This lens has an amazing 28-840mm range (equivalent in 35mm). If your subject is faraway you can still get up close and personal with the telephoto end of the zoom, while the 28mm wide-angle lets you capture breathtaking panoramas. Considering these capabilities, this is still a very compact 14 megapixel camera. Composing photos is easy on the camera's bright 3.0" LCD screen, and it is easy to view even in the bright sun.

Intelligent Auto (iAuto) Mode analyzes your composition and automatically adjusts critical exposure settings for brilliant, hassle-free shooting. Other features including Shadow Adjustment Technology, AF Tracking, and Dual Image Stabilization, make it easy to take great photos. Take beautiful portraits, by softening shadows and smoothing wrinkles and blemishes on your subject's face with the Beauty Mode feature. Edits can also be made inside the camera after taking the picture.

The camera allows you to create stylized looks for your photos with Creative Art Filters, and use the Panorama mode to create one large image. If you need to capture a moving subject, the camera shoots HD quality movies with touch of one button. You can store all of your images on the internal 2GB memory, or use SD/ SDHC media cards to better interface with computers, digital picture frames, and HDTVs.

Olympus 227665B reviews

SP-800UZ Digital Camera is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 62.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Zoom not as good advertised I bought the Olympus SP-800UZ camera for a friend for the 30X zoom to 840 to photograph birds Compared to her Kodak camera, Z980, 24X, to 624 zoom, the results were disappointing. Also the camera did NOT come with a manual. You are to download it to your computer. Not a good place when you are in the field and need to look at your book. Olympus will charge you $10.00 for a manual. Also the display on the back of the camera is hard to see in bright sunlight. The battery life is also very short. If you purchase this camera, be sure to buy extra batteries. For normal snapshots this is a good camera, but not for the extended zoom.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Glad I read reviews before I bought! I am a tremendous fan of Olympus SPxxx-UZ cameras. I have used many of them and find pictures from them have always been fantastic. I have recommended them to many friends and relatives getting only positive feedback. I was looking at the 800 and the price was very tempting - but when I see that this 30x ultra zoom doesn't have a viewfinder I was shocked. And then it also doesn't have image stabilization? It's not surprising that there are comments that hi zoom pics aren't all that good. I seems like it would be hard to hand hold with any stability and not having viewfinder in bright outdoor light probably makes photocomposition pretty difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Click, click, boom...it's the bomb! This product is light weight, easy to carry around, and fits in a small case. The image stabilizer is amazing...you can catch moving objects very well. The video option is convienient and easy to access. You can even take pictures with voice recordings attached. The post processing options have to be my most used and favorite by far. The ability to make every picture black and white, crop, reduce red eye, and create clear skin after the picture has been taken, right from the camera, is just amazing. I would not have any other camera after using this...me and my fiance fight over who is going to use it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Camera Although I have an SLR with a 400 M telephoto lens I find it to large to carry around especially on my boat. The Olympus SP-800 UZ with it's 30X optical lens is the right answer. The camera is small and light, reasonably quick to focus and takes fabulous pictures After two weeks of ownership and 200 plus pictures, It appears to be very well designed and has more optical settings than I will ever need. The only short comings are the lack of a view finder, and it does not come with an instruction manual. The manual is however available on line. This is a definite buy !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lot of Camera for the money ! My son plays football, baseball, soccer... so I'm always carrying a camera and a camcorder. This football season, my camcorder would not work (dvd writing error) the first 3 games, so I decided it was time to upgrade. I had already been researching digital cameras. The SP-800UZ was the best of 2 worlds. It takes fantastic pictures. The 30x zoom is UNBELEIVABLE !! Macro photos are sharp. The video is really good too. Keeping in mind this is not a dedicated movie camera, it really fits the bill for my son's sporting events. I've only had it a week, so I still have a lot of playing to do, but so far, I love it.I was ready to purchase from Newegg, until a co-worker of mine told me to try B&H photo - he uses them frequently. ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gret little digital camera for its price I use my SP-800UZ for family and personal activities. The best thing is that it is very easy to use. I am still learning how to change settings. The Macro option is GREAT. Same thing with Zoom feature. The video option seems to be good, but as I said before, I am still discovering its goodies. The only thing I don't like is that the manual is not printed, so you need a PC or laptop to be able to read about the usage of this great camera. I am very happy with it and every day I use it, I like it best.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just replaced this camera with same I use this camera for my photography business. I downloaded manual and also bought a copy to read so I had an idea how the camera worked. Because of an accident where I broke the camera, I have just replaced it with the same model. I have gotten beautiful pictures from this camera. I find it easy to use, and not too heavy. I prefer to use the screen on the back, so not having a view finder doesn't bother me. I agree that the battery life is short; therefore I have several replacements and a charger. I carry the camera with me everywhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from jack of all trades, master of none This camera does an amazing number of things, but only does a few of them well. The images I made at the extreme telephoto end of that long zoom all were quite soft. The drawing art filter blew out highlights most of the time, just leaving me with a few sketchy lines. And there was a light vertical band down the right side of all the pictures I took with the pinhole art filter activated. Overall, I think that Olympus tried to pack a lot of features into a smallish, relatively inexpensive camera, but my impression was that a lot of those features don't work very well. I returned my copy ...
