Vello VB-1000 Overview

• 1Description

The black Vello ActionPan Professional Grade Stabilizing Action Grip allows you to hold your camera down low when filming skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, auto racing, motocross, BMX/FMX and even when boating. Besides just facilitating a novel filming perspective, the ActionPan will steady your shot as well. It can be used with most SLR cameras or camcorders (with max height of 4.5") that feature a 1/4"-20 tripod mount. The 1/4"-20 screw on the bracket is adjustable, to better accommodate cameras of different configurations.

The ActionPan features a shock-proof rubber handle that alleviates stress by offering a comfortable, secure grip. There's also a finger groove for securing grip, as well as non-slip rubber rails for further securing your camera to the mount. As an added bonus, the ActionPan is equipped with a removable accessory shoe mount on the top, which can hold your video light, camera flash or external microphone. If you plan to capture action sports from any angle, especially low angles, the ActionPan is a must have.

Vello VB-1000 Reviews

ActionPan Professional Grade Stabilizing Action Grip/Handle (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 129.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again and again I use this for handheld video shooting with my DSLR. The aft grip feel spongy at first but the more you use it the More comfortable it gets. The rubberized platform the unit Sits on is very non-slip and holds in place very, very well. what you don't see is the bottom rails have the same non-slip material on it allowing you to safely put it down almost anywhere. This is a must have grip for filming on the go. the only single drawback is it's a 1 1/2in to small to fit a DSLR with a vertical grip on the mounting platform. other then that This is the best of 14 different grip of this style I have found. Definitely worth the money, hands down!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Liking it Bought this for the Sony AX-100. Started accessorizing it then one thing lead to another. Added a Noga Cine Arm to hold a Sennheiser shotgun mic. A coiled 3-Pin XLR-M to Angled 3-Pin XLR-F Cable, store bought threaded bolt hardware wrapped with heavy duty fuel line to hold wireless. A Manfrotto 577 Rapid Connect Adapter with Sliding Mounting Plate (501PL), a Manfrotto 492LCD Micro Ball Head to hold a light, and an old Beachtek DXA-6A. An Ikan universal grip bar can be attached at the bottom of the Beachtek device for added stability and comfort. Don't laugh...It works! This Vello Actionpan is strong enough (to me) to hold these add-ons and produce great handheld shots plus grabbing great audio when needed. You'll have to angle quick release plate to accommodate the length of your camera...this way you can use the EVF. Everything must be tightened up snug but you knew that. Thanks Vello and BH for great quality products at great prices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tool! This was the first stabilizer I've owned and love it! Some people talk about a flimsy design, but I have not found that to be true, though, I have a much smaller HD camera that I use with it. However, the lack of weight to help reduce some of the shakey-cam effects is something I have to stabilize myself. That is fine, though, as it is part of becoming an independent filmmaker! That being said, just like any tool, it takes practice to become proficient with it. I found that using two hands on this device can add so much greater control than I expected than just one! On top of that, I sometimes use the back of the handle against my cheek as a third stabilizer since my camera uses a digital monitor for its viewfinder. This helps out greatly if I need to use one hand to adjust the focus or to punch in and out without having too much shake to the footage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from How can Vello screw up the only moving part on it? This was an inexpensive solution to a Sony AX100 with no handle. Great camera but tough to get a comfortable, steady grip on. There are 2 big drawbacks. 1.) The 1/4-20 screw that is permanently attached to Vello is too short to feel comfortable mounting the camera. I took a pair of needlenose pliers and took out the rubber retainer and it helped a bit, but still have to keep eagle eye to be sure camera isn't going to fall off. 2.) The design renders the eyepiece unusable. It's not the grips fault. I give it a 3. It works with a caution, but for the price of a 2 or 3 turns longer quarter-twenty bolt it would be a 10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for Indie filmmakers! It provides the stability and most importantly flexibility of run and gun, guerilla style shooting. I used it to document this year's NYC Summer Streets and had a blast. The top handle provides the grip for on-shoulder shooting and the handle for close to the ground shots. It would be best if your camera/DSLR had a flip out screen. I would definitely recommend this to any one shooting on a DSLR, though. It just adds that much more stability to your shots.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be Careful! I got this for my Sony AX33 Handycam. The first time I attached the camcorder, the bottom plastic cracked around the 1/4-20 female tripod insert. Evidently the opening in the ActionPan is too large to properly support the thin plastic around the insert and tightening the screw attempts to pull the insert from the bottom of the camcorder. Now the insert wobbles in the camcorder base. To be fair, this looks to be a defect belonging to the AX33 as much as to the ActionPan handle. It doesn't look like this would happen with any of my 5 older camcorders which have beefier inserts. A 1/4 fender washer between the AX33 and ActionPan would have prevented this from happening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable product When I received my action pan stabilizer I was a little concerned that it was constructed of plastic, but when I became more familiar with it and putting it to the test in the woods and on the water I soon realized that it was a great purchase. It is one durable, light weight piece of equipment. It's light enough that my arm doesn't get worn out from filming and sturdy enough that I am not afraid to use it in extreme conditions. Overall, for the price, this is as good as it gets. I highly recommend this product!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from To small for d800 nikon It is to small for Nikon d800. Actually it works but it's not enough space for your fingers if you have big fingers :). And if tou Use heavy gear like Nikon D 800 with liens 14-24 zoom This holder starts to bend.

Can I use this bracket to mount 1 microphone and 1 camcorder on a tripod such that the camcorder points straight ahead and the microphone points 40 degree away from the direction of the camcorder ?
Asked by: Thanh
Yes you can do that. However, the ability to mount the bracket on a tripod will depend on the head or whatever quick release mounting plate you need.

I'm interested in using this with my Canon T3i. Also, I'm looking to purchase a Rode VideoMic Pro Shotgun Microphone, . Would this stabilizer be compatible/a good option for my interests?
Asked by: Zach F.
A little late, but maybe it helps, it is a good grip, but the plastic material make it a little bit shaky, it happen more when you use a heavier camera, I got a T5, its almost the same camera, it is comfortable to use it, but you will notice the effect it does when you playback the footage. If you got a friend or some place that let you test it first, that could be a better option, probably its good for what you intend to use it. Sorry about my english, hope it help you.Kiko.
