Lomography Z361 overview

  • 1Description

The Lomography DigitaLIZA 120 Scanning Mask holds your 120 medium-format negatives flat and in place so you can properly scan them with a standard flatbed scanner with a backlight/transparency unit.

Unlike other scanning masks, the DigitaLIZA accommodates the digitization of experimental analog photographs by scanning the whole negative strip without defining the frames individually. This lets you scan overlapping exposures, doubles, triples, and panoramas.

Scanning area is 7.2 x 2.3" (184 x 58mm)
Distance between film and the scanning plate is 0.05" (1.2mm)

Lomography Z361 reviews

DigitaLIZA 120 Scanning Mask is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty ingenious! I currently copy my negatives 'ghetto style' - as it is called. I hold the negatives up by a bright window and photograph them. At first I was using artist's tape to keep them flat on vellum paper. That was too much handling and I got the texture of the paper in my images (not that it was the most terrible thing). The DigitaLiza holders keep the negatives nice and flat - and keep them from being overly handled and getting scratched. So, whether you have a proper scanner for negatives or not, if you like old school photography these film holders are really helpful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised Well, I don't normally buy Lomography products, but I needed something like this and bought both the 35mm and 120 sizes. I was pleasantly surprised. Build quality is great and they're easy to use, with the magnets. I have only one complaint, which is that since the lower end Epsons only put the transparency unit down the middle of the bed, and this isn't like the normal holder that extends out to the side, it is very difficult to get it exactly straight on the scanning bed. I'll need to cut some cardboard piece or something to space it out from the side. Despite this, I am giving this one 5 stars where I gave the 35mm only 4, because the 120 adapter has the very useful feature of letting me scan three 6x6 frames, where the V500's included adapter only shows two frames at a time - even though the V500's transparency unit is long enough for three. Binder pages for 120 film take strips of three. So with just the Epson holder, I need to cut a strip of three, scan two, reload the strip and scan the last one, and this holder saves that step.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for Epson V700 / V750 users This product is certainly more sturdy than the medium format film holder that comes with the Epson V700 / V750. But in my opinion it doesn't allow you to scan the borders of the film any more than the Epson holder does, which is the specific reason I wanted to try this film holder. Other than this, the product works fine and it's recommendable for people who need an medium format film holder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product for DSLR Scanning I have been scanning my film using a 5dmk3 which has yielded brilliant results, however, the most painful part of the process is keeping the film flat. With this it makes it very fast and easy to hold the film in place and scan it. The product seems well built and durable. This mask however will not let you scan to the edges of your film so you can't get the border if you wanted that. Also my archival sheet holds 4 frames per strip but this will only let you scan 3 at a time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent scanning mask! I bought this to do DSLR scanning of 120 film. Overall it works quite well, every once and a while it's a little finicy to get the back plate alight right, hence the 4 out of 5 review. Overall I'm quite happy with it, would buy again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from bought both sizes after testing, I done them. Need a quick and easy way to hold your 120 negs? this is it, I use a Epson V700 and the stock negative holders do nothing but anger me. They warp, cup, and skew your negatives. This one holds them perfectly, you can even scan close to the edges to show off your analog work. The negative stays flat as can be, and scans perfectly. The build is decent, the magnets are good and strong. I bought the 35mm one, after testing this one. My only beef with either of them is they only hold one strip but it loads so quick its not an issue for me any more.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cuts off the film rebate I bought this scanning mask to enable scanning / digitizing of 6x17 panoramic images on 120 roll film. I prefer to keep the film rebate (film stock / frame numbers) intact when I digitize my negatives, and had seen images elsewhere that implied that this mask was wide enough to do that. It is not. I did like the build quality and the ease of use, but returned it since it does in fact crop the edges more than I wanted.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pointless? This product is well designed to fit the film and make alignment easy but it doesn't actually work in my scanner because of its size. Only buy it if you're certain your scanner will accept something so bulky.
