The BG500 from tc electronic is a bass amplifier that provides all the tools necessary to amplify and perform with an electric bass. With Active Power Management, the amplifier delivers all the character of a tube amplifier while delivering 500 Watts of undiluted power.
The unit has traditional tone controls, but also includes TubeTone, a circuit that emulates all of the characteristics of a traditional tube circuit. Tweeter Tone provides tweeter level control along with musical high-frequency control from the front panel when pair with the appropriate cabinet.
SpectraComp provides studio quality compression with its "per string" compression. Three on-board user memories can quickly swap sounds mid gig, perfect for multi-bass set-ups. With its balanced out, headphones out and rehearse inputs, it caters for any bass application.
A conventional compressor tends to be dominated by the lower string - with SpectraComp you get an approximation of "per string" multi-band compression that evens out the compression across all strings
The result is that your sound gets compressed in a much more musical and useful way than any single-band compressor can deliver
Most transistor designs try to replicate tube sound using one preamp tube, but don't take the crucial characteristics of a full preamp and power amp into account, both of which are essential to the sound
TubeTone emulates all characteristics of a tube amplifier to deliver the full tube sound
Stores three favorite tones with seamless switching between them
Useful when using different basses on stage or in the studio
Previous knob position recall can be easily performed manually using dual indicators
Built-In Bass Tuner
5-string tuner - no need for external connections
Mute switch for silent tuning
Usually located on the rear side of a cabinet, but on the BG500 you can simply adjust the tweeter level right from the front panel
The sound also gets modified slightly with filters, providing much more intelligent control over the critical high frequencies
4-band EQ great for shaping the fundamental tone
Two contour filters allow you to scoop the mid-frequencies slightly making this a kind of instant EQ that can create warm and smooth tones on demand
Connect external devices to AUX IN for rehearsing or jamming along with iPods, etc.
Plugging in headphones automatically mutes the drivers
XLR output for sending a signal to a PA or recording desk
