Epson PP-100 overview

  • 1Description

If you want to reliably print labels, graphics, or barcodes on CDs or DVDs, then check out Epson's Discproducer Autoprinter. Ideal for use with businesses or professionals that already have duplicators set up, the Discproducer Autoprinter can hold a total of 100 discs and print up to 95 discs an hour. In so doing, it utilizes a built-in inkjet printer and a variety of notable Epson-technologies.

In terms of actually using this Discproducer, it has three different operating modes, each of which depend on the number of discs that you want to print. Specifically, you can choose batch mode for larger production runs of up to 100 discs, standard mode for smaller production runs up to 50 discs, and external mode for up to 5 discs. Although to note, these disc amounts are from continuous, uninterrupted printing without changing out and refilling the disc trays. If you do refill disc trays as you go along in each of these modes, you can print a total of 1,000 discs in a single job!

While you're deciding on which operating mode to choose, you will also have the option of choosing between three different print resolutions for your label, barcode, or graphics. If you don't mind a slower printing process for the sake of achieving the best image quality, you can print at a resolution of 1440 x 1440 dpi. If you want the fastest printing process with a slight decrease in image-quality, you can print at a still very high resolution of 720 x 720 dpi. If neither of those options works, you can find a solid middle-ground that balances speed with image quality by printing at a resolution of 1440 x 720 dpi. Also, to note, at the highest resolution, you can print a total of 50 discs an hour. At the middle resolution, you can print 75 discs an hour, and at the lowest resolution but fastest speed, you can print 95 discs an hour.

For actual printing, Discproducer's inkjet printer uses MicroPiezo print heads for delivering uniform, stable ink droplets as well as six high-capacity, ink cartridges. Each cartridge contains a different color of ink and is connected to a sensor that will alert you when ink is low. While many other inkjet printers use only one black and one color cartridge, Epson's use of six different colors is meant to save you money. More specifically, with those other printers, if you deplete a given color, such as cyan in your color cartridge, you will unfortunately need to replace the entire cartridge. So, if you still want to print with that cyan color but have yellow and magenta left in the cartridge, you will be wasting those other colors once you replace the cartridge. Epson's use of six cartridges allows you to replace only one color per cartridge when it is out so as to reduce waste and lower your operating costs.

Beyond the inkjet printer, the Discproducer relies on a few notable Epson technologies and design innovations. The exterior is compact, rugged, features a dust-proof body, and contains a minimum of moving parts. Among those moving parts is a robotic arm that employs Epson's AcuGrip technology. That is to say, once the arm is centered over a disc, three powered fingers separate any discs that are stuck together and ensure that only one disc is placed inside the printer.

Once you've connected your PC to the Discproducer via USB cable, Epson's Total Disc Maker Software will provide you with all the functions necessary for printing your discs. You'll simply need to design the label to be printed, configure your run, and click "Publish."

When you start to print discs, Epson's Data Monitor Software will keep you informed of the status of your publishing job. It provides a bounty of relevant information to your job, such as ink levels in each cartridge, whether the printer is in use, the total time needed for a job, any errors, and what disc stackers are being used to hold printed or blank discs.

In total, Epson's Discproducer Autoprinter is a fast, convenient, hands-off way of labeling a plethora of discs.

Holding up to 100 discs, the Discproducer prints a maximum of 95 discs per hour at the fastest speed, 75 at the next fastest speed, and 50 at the least fastest (but best resolution)
Prints on injet printable CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs
Prints in three modes: batch mode for larger production runs of up to 100 discs at once, standard mode for runs of up to 50 discs at once, and external mode for up to 5 discs at once
Using MicroPiezo print heads, the Discproducer prints vibrant graphics at a resolution of 1440 x 1440 dpi for the best quality, 720 x 720 dpi for the fastest printing process, and 1440 x 720 dpi for the best balance between image quality and speed of printing
Six ink cartridges are connected to sensors that let you know when each one's ink is low
Even if two discs are stuck together, the patented AcuGrip robotic arm ensures that only one disc is placed in the printer
Total Disc Maker Software provides you with all the functions you need to print discs while Data Monitor Software provides all relevant information for monitoring your job as its happening
Compact rugged construction, dust-resistant body, and minimum number of moving parts ensure extra reliability
