Canon 3560B008AA overview

  • 1Description

A flexible zoom to benefit working in a variety of situations, the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM from Canon is a 24-136mm-equivalent lens designed for APS-C-format DSLRs. Ultra-Low Dispersion and aspherical elements are featured in the optical design to control color fringing, distortion, and a variety of aberrations throughout the zoom range, and a Super Spectra coating has been applied to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity. The lens also features an Optical Image Stabilizer, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake by four stops to better enable shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions. Additionally, a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor is featured, too, which affords quick, quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

Standard zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs, and offers a 24-136mm equivalent focal length range.
One Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.
Three aspherical elements minimize spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing system, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

    Canon 3560B008AA reviews

    EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 508.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible! I'm a professional wedding photographer and have used the 24-70L lens for years. I've always needed farther reach on both ends, so I rented the 15-85 and spent a lot of time and a lot of photographs comparing the two lenses. Bottom line; I was so impressed with the 15-85 that I immediately put my 24-70L online to sell and B&H should expect my order shortly. The 15-85 is noticeably sharper and it compares in contrast and bokeh. Pincusion distortion on the 24-70L was quite evident compared to the 15-85. The IS is remarkable! I found that I rarely used f/2.8 on the 24-70L because it was too soft. I used f/5.6 most often, so the 15-85 is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super sharp I chose this lens after looking at iEEE resolution chart results at various focal lengths and f stops. I compared it with other lenses. I was amazed that this lens stays so sharp even at large apertures compared with most others. Chromatic aberration is also low. I believe its strongest feature is that it keeps such a sharp image across its zoom range, making it a top-notch choice for quality and versatility. My only negative comment is that if held vertically, facing directly downward, the zoom setting creeps quickly around its mid-range. It must be held in position. Greater coverage around the barrel for the zoom range might have prevented this, or have a zoom lock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best all around lens for APS-C Camera I am an avid, very advanced amateur photographer and use this lens as my one and only lens for backpacking for the past year. (don't have the luxury of carrying multiple lenses) Even when I scour the Canon website and look at ALL the other lenses, this one still comes out as my best choice single lens for landscape photography and travel. Images are sharp (especially while using a tripod of course.) If it were built from alloy, it would be an L series lens. (glad it's not, those are heavy!) Biggest complaint, as others have noted, is lens creep. This lens is way too loose. Also wish it had a constant Max Aperture, say f/4 would be reasonable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best all around for APS-C Cameras It has been a pleasant experience, very sharp and consistent results. I used to carry several lenses to cover the same range with my Canon 7D (e.g. EF-S 10-22mm, Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L(I) and sometimes a Canon EF 85/100mm prime). Now, with this lens I only carry this zoom which balance pretty well with my Canon 7D and eventually one lightweight prime (e.g. EF40mm f2.8, EF 30mm f2) for low-light situations, where this zoom lens does not excel. I was hesitant to buy it because the shadow formed with using the pop-up flash but I solved it with a small flash (e.g. 270 EX II) that is also lightweigth and fit in your bag or pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Lens This lens is great. I decided to get this one over the standard 24-105 mm lens based off of the excellent reviews on the Canon website, as well as many others, and boy am I glad I listened. I bought this to replace my 18-55 mm kit lens and man does it make a difference. The extra range, while 3 mm at the wide angle and 30mm at the tele end doesn't seem like a lot, really makes a huge difference. The lens is also sharp as a tack, regardless of zoom or aperture. The USM focuses quickly and quietly. Overall, this lens is basically an L lens without the extra price tag. Definitely the only lens I'll be needing for a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great multi-purpose lens This is a great walkaround lens, and also very good for landscapes, etc. While the 3mm difference between this and the 18-135 (or 18-55) may not seem like much, it makes a big difference on crop sensor cameras! I have a 24-70mm 2.8 L and love it, but this truly is near as sharp. I don't hesitate to use it at paying gigs. Plus, it has a much more useable range. 15mm is wide enough for landscapes with an 84 degree view, while 85mm brings you up into the portrait range, Nice! now, if it was only f/2.8 and made of metal & weather sealed. Oh, but then it would be large, heavy and cost 3x as much!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ONE OF THE BEST ALL AROUND LENS I'm new in photography and started to search for a quality lens for my 450D, until one of my friends suggested the Canon 15-85 IS USM, at first I am quite hesitant because of the price of the lens, but when you started using it you will feel the difference compare with the kit lens, it is well worth buying this lens as you will be happy for the result of each single shots you've made. I strongly recommend this lens to all amateur photographer for us to develop the confidence while taking our shots. Having this lens will motivate you to continue to develop your skills at maximum level..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens I've been Canon user for over 20 years, back to the film I've owned their L lenses incl. the 300/2.8L..I was hesitant to switch to Digital but can't stop the progress..I bought this lens w/60D and I did not expect too much in terms of picture quality..after a several months I must say that this lens surprised me so much that it's my favorite lens for any trip or traveling..besides this lens I own Two L lenses, but the 15-85 is my favorite because it produces true colors,it's sharp and is built well..I only shoot outdoors.Canon has really done a great job.
