Canon 8014A005AA overview

  • 1Description

This lens replaces the previous high quality L-series 28-70mm f/2.8 lens, with a lens of even greater caliber. The range has been extended to cover an ultra-wide angle of 24mm, which makes it ideal for digital as well as film shooters, and the optics are even better than before with two Aspherical elements and a totally new UD glass element. It's now sealed and gasketed against dust and moisture, and a new processing unit makes the AF faster than ever.

Two Aspherical Elements
A lens design incorporating elements ground so the curve of the surface does not describe an arc of a circle. Especially useful in reducing distortion in wide angle lenses.
UD Element
UD glass is one of the new technologies to open new possibilities to develop the zoom lenses with low weight and high optical performance. UD elements make it possible to correct chromatic aberrations whilst maintaining low weight.

    Canon 8014A005AA reviews

Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 2055.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-purpose lens I'm a wedding photographer and a sports photographer. I use this lens for wedding photography mostly, as it performs well in almost any lighting situation, and it has a great focal range for both group photos and portraits. It's a bit heavy, so it probably wouldn't be my first choice for sight-seeing, but it feels very solid and well-constructed. The auto-focus is extremely fast and it comes with a lens hood, which you will definitely need, even if only to protect the lens (which extends and retracts as you zoom). If you need to shoot wide and medium telephoto but don't have time to change lenses then this is a fantastic lens. For me, it's perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from S-H-A-R-P! I bought this to replace my Sigma 24-70 2.8 after it broke, and what an upgrade! It seems almost unfair to compare these two lenses, and first striking difference is the AF which is very fast and reliable on the Canon. It produces razor sharp images every time. The weight of this lens shouldnt be an issue; my only disappointment is that it does not appear as fast in use as other f/2.8 lenses. That being said, its all worth it when you see the photos! Bottom line, if you have the cash dont think for a second - buy it. If you dont have it, there are plenty of good, cheaper lenses. But this is probably the best lens out there in this focal area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This lens Is Nuts It seems ludicrous to review this lens as if it has to live up to some standard. It IS the standard, this thing rivals prime lenses in all aspects. I shoot a 5D Mark II and own several L lenses, all f2.8, and this 24-70mm is best in class image quality-wise. I've had it for a week and from day one I marveled at the image detail and contrast (and the bokeh that stays smooth up to f5.6!). Don't toy with the 24-105mm, the f/4 series of lenses is very good, but they're not WHOA. Buy up to the 24-70mm and have that WHOA back in your images. Besides image quality, it's built like a tank (weighs almost as much!), and the hood design is brilliant with the way it deals with 24mm and still provides full coverage at 70mm. Bravo, Canon!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Remarkable images and quality but heavy I bought it for my wife and I. She is a scrap booker and we have 6 kids. We shoot with a Canon XTi. The lens was too heavy for my wife and full zoom really needed a tripod since it doesn't have IS. I could get used to the weight but not the lack of IS. We replaced it with two other Canon lenses both with IS. I still miss the unbelievable color and low light composition with that 2.8L. If Canon ever adds image stabilization I will sell what ever I have to in order to buy that lens again! It seems like the last 4 weddings I have attended the pro photographer has this lens mounted on their Canon just about the entire time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection! This lens is used for everday photography; from people to landscapes. It has proven to be very quick on autofocus and the f2.8 arpeture is great for darker areas. I was just recently out in NV hiking and got caught in a small sandstorm, the lens held its ground and didn't let any dust into it, thankfully. You can only use one filter at a time on this lens otherwise you run the risk of vignetting. If you use the standard camera body mounted flash, make sure you remove the hood, it will cause shadows. Am I happy with this lens? Y E S! Despite it's weight, which any fit individual should be able to shrug off, it is a perfect lens for walk abouts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have!! Recognize that L glass is heavy. Own that. With that said, this is a must have for any Pro Bag. Likely one of the first L lenses that any photographer should purchase. I've heard several complaints about the speed of focus, and let me explain. The speed of focus is slow in video mode...but it should be...it's a f/2.8 lense. This is not your mom's camcorder! Bringing subjects in and out of focus with this lense can offer stunning artistic flare to any video. Check out the many shorts available on youtube to see what I am talking about. Search for Canon 5D MK II 24-70 videos. You will like it. No regrets. I love this lense. Great Price, Great Product, ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens, No Regrets I've been researching this lens for awhile, one might say I'm a bit hesitant when purchasing gear. I read review after review on this lens. Most of the poor reviews complained of weight and poor focusing. First; if your concerned about weight, don't buy L glass. Focusing has more to do with the camera's focusing mechanism than the lens. Personally, I find the weight to be perfect; it balances my camera nicely. This lens is amazing for studio work. Every image is spot on, focused perfectly and the color saturation is amazing. If you don't want to invest in Primes, this is a great versatile lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best lens i've ever owned This lens does it all. 24-70mm is a perfect range, making it unnecessary to switch lenses all the time. This lens is great for anything from weddings/portraits where switching primes is unreasonable, to getting up close and personal at outdoor sporting events, to working indoors in low light. I have not yet found a situation where this lens has not served me well. As with other L series lenses, I am comfortable using this lens outdoors in unfavorable weather conditions. My only 'complaint' is that it is a bit on the heavy side. Although, I honestly never have a problem with it. I just feel I need to say something not-positive about this lens so you will believe me ;)
