Canon 2507A006AA overview

  • 1Description

The EF 35mm f/2 Lens from Canon is a wide-angle prime lens with a fast maximum aperture of f/2 which makes it effective in low-light and able to support shallow depth of field control. It is a very compact and lightweight lens, ideal as an everyday lens due to its size and inclusive angle of view. Super Spectra lens coatings minimize flare and ghosting and a circular diaphragm renders pleasing bokeh. Its minimum focus distance is 9.6", and combining that with its wide angle of view, you can get close to your subject and still keep it all in frame.

A wide-angle prime lens with a fast maximum aperture of f/2 is effective in low light and enables shallow depth of field control.
Less that 2" long and weighing only 7.4 oz, it is an ideal lens to keep on your camera as an "everyday" lens. Its wide angle of view is inclusive, versatile and apt for many shooting situations.
Super Spectra lens coating minimizes flare and ghosting.

    Canon 2507A006AA reviews

    EF 35mm f/2 Lens is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 254.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great first prime for 1.6 crop cameras I got this as my first prime for my new Rebel XT, and I love it. Converts to 56mm on the 1.6 crop cameras, and is cheaper than the 28mm lenses that get a little closer to the traditional 50mm prime. Very noisy AF, though - enough that it can startle subjects. Bokeh is so-so - but it isn't an L lens, and it's more than acceptable enough. It is light enough that you don't even notice it on your camera. If you have the money, I'd go for the 35mm L lens, but this is a good compromise for an amateur on a budget. And you aren't paying 3-4x as much money for a lens as you did for the body...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from poor man's 1.4L This is a great lens if you want to have most of what you get with a 1.4L at 20% of the price. You almost get as much low-light capability, almost get as much sharpness, almost get the dreamy quality of the 1.4, and almost get the bokeh. It is a great lens if you are trying to determine whether you can live with a fixed length lens -- especially on an APS-C format as a normal lens. TAKE A LOOK AT MY ATTACHED SAMPLE, AND BLOW IT UP AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. In full resolution, it is stunning what this can do. Don't know if this site will preserve the resolution...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp lens with great color rendition Purchased for indoor photography without flash. Previously, used the ubiquitous 50mm f/1.8 II, which while having astounding sharpness, proved to be incredibly unforgiving due to the narrow field of view on my APS-C body. I appreciate the metal mount, and the lens has a nice weight to it, unlike the cheap-feeling f/1.8. Coatings on this lens must be somewhat better than the f/1.8, as color rendition is noticeably better. The loss of 1/3 stop is more than made up by the wider field of view, making this lens far more forgiving in practice. The one downside for me is that this lens is quite noisy when focusing, and the manual focus feels somewhat rough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A note for full Frame Do not underestimate the usefulness of this focal-length on a full frame or 35mm body. If you are out for adventure and you can only bring one lens.... This is the one. It is sharp it is small, it is fast, it is wide, but not to wide for a waist up portrait, and it focuses very close. This lens looks good at f2, but you won't see it's full performance until f 5.6. The AF on this lens is a bit noisy but otherwise fine. The greatest weaknesses of this lens on a full frame camera or soft corners at apertures below f4.5 and somewhat poor bokeh (out of focus blur). If you are aware of these short-comings they are easy to work with. Even if you own the superior 35mm f1.4L, this lens is worth having for it's smaller size and closer focusing abilities.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Normal Lens I bought a Canon 40D primarily for digital product shots for catalog and brochure production. I wanted a fast, sharp, versatile lens which could also be used as a normal lens in outdoor photography. The reviews I read on the internet regarding the lens gave it high marks, but noted a bit of noise as the lens focused. I absolutely am not aware of it and think it is picking the fly s#&! out of the pepper. It's a great lens for the price. It feels solid and produces great shots. The moderate price for this very good normal prime lens increases the opportunity to buy other lenses as needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT LENS!! I was looking for a new fixed lens and was on somewhat of a budget. I still wanted the quality behind the lens though. After doing some research I found this one. It's perfect! The lens is a little snug when trying to attach and take off, but if you're careful with it, it doesn't matter! Anyone who says this is absolutely terrible in low lighting is wrong! It only lets in a tiny bit less than an f/1.8! If you constantly shoot in extremely low lighting, no I wouldn't suggest this lens but... You SHOULD already know that as someone who shoots in dimly lit areas!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A hidden gem For what you pay for this lens it has to be one of Canon's best buys. I've done some street photography, vacation photography and have shot a lot of images at one of my weddings and have only had the lens for a couple of weeks. I've been very happy with the results as far as sharpness, color and contrast. It is one of Canon's old school lenses but as long as you are not a techno snob or a pixel counter you will be very impressed and very happy with this lens. It's going to be my new every day lens and can't wait to shoot more with it. If I had to say anything bad it would be slowish and noise focusing and you really need a lens hood. It's gets a fair amount of flare/ghosting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Great Little Lens I've been happy with my 35mm 2.0. Obviously, it doesn't produce the bokeh or the sharpness of the 1.4 L version, but for the price, it's a great little piece of glass. It's lightweight and fun, it focuses fast, and my copy has been pretty darn sharp. I have been actually surprised at how sharp it is for such an inexpensive lens, even if it's not an L. I've used it for portraits on a cropped sensor and for some wide angle on my full frame. Although I would love the L version of this lens, I'm not in any hurry because the 2.0 has been so good to me.
