Whether capturing images in the studio or on location, the Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release adds flexibility and versatility to your shooting style. Photography unplugged - shooters can interact with a model, view the scene or set from alternate angles, or set a camera by a stream to capture an image of a bear hunting while you remain at a safe distance away - all this and more without missing a beat, a shot, or a moment. This particular FreeWave unit is compatible with cameras with the Nikon DC-2 connection, i.e. Nikon D610, D750, D3200, D5300 and D7100 DSLRs.

This versatile shutter release features Smart Code technology which allows it to be configured to operate on up to 16 million possible radio channels. You can easily switch channels to "zero in" on a frequency that provides optimal range and functionality.

The FreeWave operates with radio frequency (RF) technology, therefore a direct line of sight is not necessary; radio waves pass through objects such as windows and walls. It is unlike other wireless remotes on the market that operate on an Infrared (IR) system and require a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver to make things work.

Since touching the camera even lightly while capturing an image can create a blurred image, the FreeWave eliminates this by tripping the shutter without any disturbances. This is critical when photographing subjects close up, and for long-exposures and macros. It is also extremely valuable when photographing nature, wildlife and other subjects that are difficult for you to get close to.

Compatibility

Nikon: D750, D610, D600, Df, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D90, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3300, D3200, D3100, Z7, Z6
Coolpix: P7800, P7700, and Coolpix A

Smart Code

The FreeWave's Smart Code feature allows you to operate on 16,000,000 possible radio channels. No DIP switches need to be set, and one transmitter can trigger multiple receivers. The units have been synchronized at the factory, so your system can work right out of the box. However, to maximize signal quality and range, it is best to use the Smart Code technology to sense the "quiet" frequencies in your environment and re-synchronize on that channel.

Extended Range

The FreeWave can fire the camera's shutter from distances up to 320 feet (100 meters).

Multi-function

Trigger your camera wirelessly or wired. Wired triggering even works if the receiver battery is dead or missing.

Dual-Function Release

Press the transmitter's button half way to focus; press it fully to trigger the shutter.

Delayed Release

The two-second delay function gives you extra time to get into position.

Multi-exposure

You can take multiple shots with one press of the trigger.

Long Exposures

With the FreeWave you can control the length of the exposure remotely.

LED Indicators

Two LED indicators confirm pre-focus and exposure when in the wireless mode.

Versatile

The FreeWave includes a camera release cable that works with your particular camera model. By simply changing to another cable (additional purchase required) a single receiver can work with many other cameras as well.

question

This looks like it's mounted on the camera in the hotshot. Can this be used with a mounted flash? I always used a speed light and want to make sure I can still use one with this product. If so, how?
Asked by: Anonymous
The receiver only needs to be plugged into the camera's remote shutter release port (The DC-2 port). The cold shoe on the receiver is only for the convenience of keeping it from dangling. You can use anything to secure the receiver anywhere convenient using a rubber band, Velcro or by any other creative means.

question

Does it work with a time function on the d5200?
Asked by: Andreas O.
The Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon DC-2 Connection is a basic remote shutter. If you set the exposure from the camera the remote will set off the camera like as if you touched the shutter button. Now if you want the remote to have additional features like time laps this one can do that Vello Wireless ShutterBoss II Remote Switch with Digital Timer for Nikon DC2 Cameras B&H # VERCWIIN2 MFR # RCW-II-N2.Or if you have an Iphone or Ipad this can do the job Vello Bluetooth ShutterBoss Advanced Intervalometer for Nikon Cameras B&H # VERCBTN MFR # RCB-TN.
