Vortex VPR-65A-HD overview

  • 1Description

The Viper HD 15-45x65 Spotting Scope from Vortex has proprietary XR anti-reflective coatings and HD (High Density) extra-low dispersion glass for increased resolution and color fidelity. Fully multicoated on all air-to-glass lens surfaces, the light transmission is increased for greater brightness. The Porro prism construction offers excellent image quality and performance in a traditional design. Meeting challenging conditions with confidence is accomplished by the argon gas purging which ensures fogproof and waterproof performance of this all-weather scope. The waterproof optics are sealed with o-rings to prevent moisture, dust, and debris from getting inside the spotting scope. ArmorTek ultra-hard, scratch-resistant coating protects exterior lenses from scratches, oil and dirt. Complete with a zoom eyepiece, built-in sunshade, rotating tripod mount, and case, this is a spotting scope to own.

The versatile magnification of the Viper spotting scope allows viewing at a wide field-of-view at lower power, then zooming in on distant details. The magnification of the spotting scope is changed by simply turning the magnification adjustment ring. An angled body design allows an overall lower mounting height which maximizes stability in windy conditions, offers greater comfort when glassing for extended periods, and permits the use of a smaller, lighter tripod. A twist up and down eyecup provides comfortable viewing with or without eyeglasses or sunglasses so that the full field of view can be observed. Twist the eyecup down when viewing with eyeglasses or sunglasses and twist up when viewing without glasses.

The dual focus feature allows for maximum focusing precision with both coarse and fine focus adjustments. After setting the magnification, you can adjust the fine focus. This does more than allow you to see critical details, it also ensures fatigue-free viewing. When you change the magnification, some refocusing is usually required. The coarse and fine adjustments is handled with just the tip of a finger: slowly turn the coarse focus dial until the subject is nearly in focus and then turn the fine focus dial to pick out the details.

The sunshade reduces glare and shields the objective lens from rain and snow. Extend this fitted shade to effectively block out disturbing stray light. The tripod foot attaches to any tripod or car window mount that uses 1/4 x 20 screw threads. There is a rotating tripod ring that allows rotation of the eyepiece to a sideways position which is very useful for viewing through an angled spotting scope body on a car window mount. Simply secure the tripod mount foot on a quick-release plate or mounting plate of the tripod head. The tripod mounting collar of the Viper allows you to rotate the spotting scope body for greater viewing flexibility. Loosen the mounting collar by turning the thumbscrew to the left. Then rotate the spotting scope body to a comfortable viewing angle. Keep the scope body in your preferred viewing position by securing the mounting collar with a turn of the thumbscrew to the right.

A built-in Picatinny rail can be used to easily attach red dot type sights.

    Vortex VPR-65A-HD reviews

Viper HD 15-45x65 Angled Spotting Scope is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Vortex Viper HD This scope is amazing. Great clarity and very bright. The Skope camera kit works great for taking photos & videos with an iPhone. B&H delivered my product on time and in a well packed shipping box. Very happy and will definitely buy from them again. Bought my first Nikon SLR from B&H back in 1984 and still using their services. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vortex Makes Great Products I bought this scope primarily for birding, and am very happy with it. I hesitated about buying the 65mm objective scope as opposed to the 80mm, but find it entirely adequate for my needs. The field is sharp and bright edge-to-edge, focusing is quick (and fine-focusing works perfectly,) and the scope is reasonably compact and light. The included Vortex tripod (while obviously not the equal of my $800 carbon fiber one) is a great accessory and certainly equal to the task.) The Vortex warranty is unequalled, and B&H is a great company from whom to buy. All-in-all, highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Scope I've had this scope for over 3 months now and have loved every moment using it. I'm a birder and this scope has allowed me to take my birding to a whole new level. Great clarity, not too heavy, and excellent price point. I will say that the tripod is not the best, but it still usable. The neoprene soft case is not great; difficult to get on even using the Vortex website instructions, lens cover is too tight to put on, has already started to rip in some stitched areas, and it can get in the way of the focus dials. For my first scope I am extremely happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Spotter Scope I have not used Vortex before but after an opportunity to test many different scopes in New Mexico I settled on this unit and havve not been disappointed. Clarity and adjustments for other users are smooth and easy. I expect to ue this mostly for wildlife spotting in the mountains and this unit is not heavy and so causes no problems when I carry it in my backpack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Quality for the Money As a professional photographer for 30+ years I have owned and used high end lenses and optic from all of the top manufacturers. I've never used any optics that were a better quality for the money. I'm delighted with my Viper HD 65mm scope and recommend it highly. Using it now in Ecuador.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice scope for birding. So far I am loving it. It is the right size for me (5'2", 100#), has a nice wide field of view, making it easy to find birds, and focuses easily for good close-up views.
