The AVerMedia AVerTV USB HD DVR (Canadian Box) is a Windows-based capture device for recording video and stereo audio from high-definition component and standard-def composite/S-Video sources such as televisions, cable/satellite set-top boxes, game consoles, camcorders, DVD players, or VCRs. The AVerTV DVR records video efficiently as 1080i H.264 TS files to a PC that's connected to the device via USB 2.0. There's built-in hardware that encodes the files in real time.
Via its HDMI output, the DVR plays back – as 1080i video – files that have been recorded by the hardware to the connected PC. The device features component video pass-through so you can simultaneously display on your TV and record game-play from a PS3, Xbox, or similar console. With its composite and S-Video inputs, the AVerTV DVR lets you digitize video from an analog TV, VCR, or a camcorder.
The AVerTV USB HD DVR includes AVerScheduler software for scheduling TV programs to be recorded. You can also schedule the DVR to record programs by using TitanTV.com.
To schedule the recording of files via your television's set-top box, the DVR includes an IR blaster cable that connects the unit to your set-top box. A software wizard "teaches" your DVR how to control the set-top box via IR commands from the remote control for your set-top box. That way the DVR can be scheduled to record the proper channel by transmitting the channel number to the box via the IR blaster cable.
The DVR also ships with ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme software for recording, playback, editing, and for burning DVDs or VCDs. The software also transcodes the recorded H.264 TS files for later playback on various devices such as iPhone or iPod (MP4), Xbox 360 (WMV), PSP or PS3 (MP4), Philips (WMV), or SanDisk (MOV).
