B+W 65-1066177 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 77mm SC 110 Solid Neutral Density 3.0 Filter is an ND filter with a 1,000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    B+W 65-1066177 reviews

77mm SC 110 Solid Neutral Density 3.0 Filter (10 Stop) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 181.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good value but not perfectly neutral I purchased this 9 stop ND filter so that I could try some long exposure daylight shots to get that silky water effect and also to experiment with other subjects such as meadows and tree canopies. It seems to be well made and it is considerably more affordable than some of the other 9-10 stop ND filters. However, it does have a distinct reddish colour cast. This isn't a serious problem for my purposes but some might feel otherwise. The effect appears to be consistently even throughout the surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does its job Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Make sure you cover your viewfinder completely to avoid a magenta glare on your images. Like some other reviewers suggested, you may notice a brown/reddish hue overcasting your images. This seems to be because IR light is still being picked up by the sensor - this can easily corrected in LR by adjusting color temperature down. If you're doing professional shoots where you'll absolutely need to get the color right, this probably isn't the filter for you anyways and you should invest in a separate IR Cut filter or spend more money on a higher-end ND filters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing product When looking for a ND filter to compliment my landscape and seascape photos I did thorough research on every review site on the Internet on which filter was the best. Since filters aren't relatively cheap I had to spend time to make sure I was getting the best for what I was paying. Using it now for a couple weeks I do not regret getting this filter at all, it has solid built and it gets more than the job done. My photos come out sharp and the moving clouds and water very silky soft. While I did not get the MCR version since that one was almost double the price of what I paid for this, I do not regret getting this version. One drawback that I did find with this filter is that it does have somewhat of a red tint. However it's something that can be fixed in post processing. I would recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You Can't Go Wrong With This This was my first time using one of these "big-stoppers" and I must say it's totally worth the money. The quality of the filter itself and the price-point are totally in sync. The frame of the filter is solid brass and feels heavy giving the user a total sense of premium quality. The photo quality doesn't degrade at all, well almost, because whenever you're using a separate glass in front of the lens, this is normal. I would say that the quality of each of my photos were excellent with this filter (in my opinion). I'm giving it a less star because, it causes Chromatic Aberrations, although very mild and easily resolved in LR processing. Other than that, there isn't anything bad I can say about this awesome product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great ND filter I bought this filter for the same reason most other people do. I wanted to shoot longer exposures during times of the day with more light. This filter gives me the ability to do that, so I'm happy with it. The filter is of course so dark when on a lens nothing can be seen through the eye piece. Some people say you can see through the filter by using live view, but that didn't work on my Nikon D300. I'm guessing it may work on newer DSLR's. Doesn't really bother me because I tend to slow down and be more thoughtful when shooting with the 10 stop ND anyway, so one extra step of putting the filter on doesn't bug me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not perfect I've never used such a strong ND before so it's possible that my expectations were too high, but I am disappointed by the vignetting. I've used this on a Nikon 20mm f1.8 and the 24-120 f4. It vignettes very harshly on the 20mm and up to about 35mm on the zoom, when it starts to become fixable in lightroom. The reddish color cast is a small nuisance, but easy to fix in post. The vignetting on wide lenses is very hard to fix in post. Otherwise, the filter seems well-made and it is a lot of fun to get long daytime exposures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Necessity The most important filter I have for photographing water. Stellar results with 20-30 second exposures. Smooths out the water to re-gain reflection if the water surface is not perfectly glassed over. It brings depth of color too. Love it. Water falls look like silk. (Sometimes this effect is not desired, so then I use the 3 stop GND. ) Using this 10 stop filter requires taking a picture first, without it, to check the composition, focus etc. as you can not see through it in the viewfinder or live view. Gotta have it. And, what can I say about B+W? The best quality around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rirht tool for the job I have few vari ND filters in different sizes and they work great, but the darkest end sometimes gives some weird polarizing effect into the photos. With this one daylight 30 sec exposures come closer to reality without stopping down too much. I read how some say that it gives a weird colorcast, but i haven't faced that yet. It can be a bit of a hassle to juggle with plenty filters, especially for video, but as far as photography goes this baby does exactly what it is made for.
