The B+W 72mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention. This filter is vacuum coated with 1 layer of anti-reflection coating per side to help prevent internal ghosting and reflections as well as improve light transmission.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Features a single anti-reflection coating per side to help prevent ghosting and reflections as well as increase light transmission from approximately 92% (uncoated glass) to over 98%.
Constructed from high quality Schott glass for optical clarity.
Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

72mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Polarizer This polarizer is amazing! So far I am very impressed with it's capabilities, and the shots I am getting with it are really nice. I have another camera my partner shoots with along side me, and it has a UV filter, and the shots with polarizer are much more saturated and colorful. Turning the polarier is kind of fun too, as you really can change the light, and the brightness of objects in your shot. The filter is solid, and you can tell it is very high quality. The threads work very cleanly. Get one, it's worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice C-POL! Reviewing the B+W C-POL single anti-reflective coating (SC) variant. B+W states a 2.5x filter factor, +1 1/3 stops compensation required at full effect, in quick tests this is spot-on. At minimal effect it still requires 2/3 stop. The three main things everyone will want to know: Does it work? How will it hold up over time, and does it affect IQ? It works great. It's beyond the scope of a 5min review to explain polarized light, but this filter does what it's supposed to do quite well. It is solid. Heavy for a filter. Precision machined threads. This is quality construction and a no-brainer. It's a B+W filter. It cleans easily. Should last a lifetime if cared for. Can you tell it's there? Yes. Barely. If you are a pixel peeper who shoots high-MP, lowest-ISO RAWs with all in-camera filtering/processing disabled, yes... there is a slight softening of edge detail. It's like you can't get your tack-sharp lens to focus completely. It slightly increases chromatic aberration, Schott glass or no Schott glass. I have a very methodical workflow, and I can spot even the slightest fringing changes, you might not. There's some vignetting, and on very wide angle (14.8mm in this test) there is a slight obstruction that makes the vignetting considerable. Note this is common and no way exclusive to this filter or B+W. (low-profile polarizers exist for this exact reason.) How does it compare to my other C-POLs? Middle. Better than the Kenko, less than the Marumi. (The Marumi is 77mm and using step-up rings, so I cannot comment on vignetting apples-to-apples, sorry.) Summary: Please understand - While the vignetting is obvious, most pro (as in paid) photographers today will not notice nor care about the very slight IQ degradation. It is a quality optical instrument you will love to use. Keeper. However, if you ARE in that 1%, the Pixel Peeper Perfectionist (TM), please spend the extra and buy the one you know you want anyway. You'll end up doing it soon enough. The Kaesemann foil variant gets great PPP reviews and has 8 MRC layers. Maybe that will be the one for you? ** Special thanks to David for pulling multiple units for my inspection. B&H rocks! ---

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Screws on nicely This filter doesn t only give me great results on my Fujinon XF 10-24mm lens opticly, it also screws on easily and comes off without having to use too much force - that's not always the case with other 72mm filters I not the cheapest, but well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from essential gear I'm using this filter with a canon film camera when shooting color film, it's indispensible if you shoot landscapes in bright sunny conditions, the filter does a great job in making clouds pop and making washed out skies look blue. Adds color saturation as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Glass yields Excellent images For color you cannot beat a polarizer. With digital Photography or film this is an essential filter. I got rid of all the other filters except for my old Spotmatic Asahi Pentax filters which I occasionally shoot B&W film.
