    CAD U9 Reviews

U9 USB Omnidirectional Microphone is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my needs I have a MacBook Unibody (early edition). My cat puked on the keyboard and everything survived but the microphone. I tried other microphones with 3.5mm plugs but nothing worked. At my wits end I ordered this USB microphone and am kicking myself that I didn't do it earlier.I needed the microphone for webinars and creating videos for my website. When it arrived I plugged it in and switch my system preference to the new PNP device and it worked like a charm. In fact it worked so well that I have to adjust the input volume to the minimum setting to reduce distortion. One I made the adjustment the quality was better than I had hoped. No background hissing or electronic noise.....B&H was quick to ship, no delays and good communication.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had problems from the get go At first, the microphone worked good and provided more gain than my MacBook Air but not any better in quality. The USB is very touchy, if it gets jiggled around, it would not record correctly. When i finally did correct the placement, it would have a buzz sound which my mic in my MBA did not have. Furthermore, it was bigger than i thought, bigger than any flash drive I've ever seen. All in all, not a quality product and I ended up getting the Imic with a 3 ring connector that the MBA can record off of. Furthermore, I read some 5 star reviews from different vendors on this product saying that it is the holy grail and am a speck suspicious as to the validity of those reviews.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Video Calls (Skype, I use this mic with my Dell XPS to do internet video calls with my family back home.It works great with both Skype, and other major application that need an input audio source. It appears that the mic doesn't pickup the sound of the laptop's fans. I just wish it came with a USB extension cable so I could move it around. I've tried using the Pearstone USB 2.0 Type A Male to Type A Female Extension Cable, but the other person on the other side of the call tells me that my voice isn't clear and there is an interference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slick little mic Bought a set of these for my multimedia classroom. the connection and driver loading was super easy for machines XP thru 7. Sound quality was clean, the Omni was the only issue with me. Have to use some denoising tool after recording in a populated area. I love the fact there are no cables.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good Bought this for recording meetings at work. I run the Audiovisual Services dept at a university and I'm always having to set up standalone recorders for every committee meeting, community forum, press event, impromptu Board meeting, etc... I've been using a set of portable recorders, Tascam DR-40, which have excellent condensers built-in. But it gets a bit ridiculous during the school year when the meetings are frequent and I'm having to travel around campus setting up and tearing down repeatedly. The recorders are a bit too complicated for the non-techie to work, so I decided the best way to go was to buy a good USB mic -- maybe a few of them, give them to the people running the committee meetings, have them put Audacity on their laptop, show them how to use it, and hope for the best. I was a bit surprised to find a straight-to-PC USB mic that wasn't aimed solely at podcasters (meaning only sensitive enough to really pick up at a couple of feet). This mic is extremely sensitive. Picks up everything (including fan noise, so use it with a quiet laptop) at good distances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little microphone We have been looking for a quality microphone to integrate into the desktop control panel for a medical device. This one works better than anticipated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as intended I can't give you a real detailed report on the audio quality since I'm just using with a Macintosh computer to talk over a public address system. I can't hear myself coming out over the PA but I have made some sample recordings in iMessage and it sounds okay. Just okay. I think the recordings made with the iPhone sounded better. But that isn't being used in conjunction with any sophisticated recording software. That's just with iMessage on just one particular device. I have also made some google voice calls and asked how is my audio and didn't get any complaints. I'm afraid this review isn't going to be much help for people using it for any sort of studio recording or anything like that but when you need a powered microphone, such as for a mac, this one gets it done. The size is just as I expected and it was easy to adjust the angle.? I took off one star because the red LED is really distracting.? I wish there was a way to either turn it off or only have it illuminate when the mic is hot. If there is a way to turn it off, I haven't found it. Expect a bright red LED (that ring in the picture that is red) that is really distracting if it's in plain view and you have to look at it.
