Manfrotto 057 overview

  • 1Description

This 057 Magnesium Ball Head from Manfrotto features an integrated RC5 quick release cam lock and a 501PL Quick Release Plate. Compatible quick release plates can removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached. The cam lock also features a safety catch to prevent a compatible quick release plate from accidentally disconnecting.

The 057 Magnesium Ball Head with 501PL Quick Release Plate has a load capacity of 33.1 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. By loosening the 057's primary locking knob, its ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. Toward the ball head's base is a secondary locking knob that controls the ability to rotate the head 360°. An additional knob opposite the secondary locking knob can be rotated to apply tension control to the ball-and-socket joint's movements. Finally, a two-position slide-switch at the base of the ball-and-socket joint allows it to be tilted down to either a 90° or a 103° angle before it is locked into place using the primary locking knob. The ability to tilt the ball-and-socket joint down to angle beyond 90° can be used to quickly level a camera placed on this 057 Magnesium Ball Head without having to adjust the tripod the ball head is connected to.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 or 3/16"-20 mount can be connected to the 501PL Quick Release Plate which measures 2.0 x 3.5 x 0.4" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface.

    Manfrotto 057 reviews

057 Magnesium Ball Head with 501PL Quick Release Plate is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid. This ball head is absolutely solid. i bought it to stabilize DSLRs on short tracks that are basically portable dollies. And i wanted a ball head that would be able to hold it and stay ABSOLUTELY solid during the entirety of the track. Also used for photography, and is just wonderful at both applications. It does the job quite well, but in being solid, it can be a little big and heavy for a ball head. That is more of a testament to it's stability, less of a con.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everything I wanted This was exactly what I was looking for. The ball head mechanism is strong and can hold my canon 7d with a 100-400mm on it with out slipping on portrait mode. The levels in the quick release have certainly helped my landscape photos and the ability to adjust the knobs to where you need them to be is just brilliant. The only reason why I didn't rate this as 5 star is becasue the base of the quick release head can get a little fiddly depending on how you have it attached to your camera. Overall this is a great tripod head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best of the best I've owned many ball heads in the past. This is the best out there in my opinion. The build quality is top notch. I use mine heavily in dusty environments, extreme heat and in rain and it's never let me down. A blast with the air compressor cleans it up nice. You will always have control with this ball head, even with a Canon 1DC, 70-200mm lens and monitor attached. It can become heavy if you're carrying it around the field all the time. This is why I purchased the 055 model as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Originally i thought of giving this product a 4 start rating, but in allhonesty, it deserves the 5 star rating. My only concern originally was weight, but compared to the small ballhead I had originally, the weight was expected.Accuracy with this ballhead is amazing. it is very smooth, easy to use, and allows you to have very accurate shots without the fear of it moving. This was specially the case when using heavy zoom lenses and my 7D. No issue at all and was able to do proper focus stacking without any issues.I deffinitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is a worthy product. Sometimes it is difficult to qualify excellent products. This ball head is easy to be used, is beautiful, is sturdy and is very stable. When you put your hands on it, it will speak for itself. I use it with a Manfrotto 117B tripod and I can say that, they work nice together. These devices are heavy, weighting 9.0 kg when in bag for transportation. They are absolutely still when in use with medium weight equipments and it is easy to find the system balance moving the plate back and forward. I love them so much because they always give me completely still pictures. They are perfect when there is no need for moving them from place to place very frequently or for carrying them in hands to a further distance. When I was searching for a tripod and a ball head, I wished something more massive for perfect and still pictures and I got it. In the place where I live, there is no option for buying good carbon fiber tripods, so I could not compare them at all and thus I decided to buy this one and I would do it again without any hesitation, because they have helped me to reach my purposes and I am very glad with them. I consider them a good choice, although heavy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Ball Head for sliders I use this ball head on my slider for DSLR video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good solid head A good solid ball head. I have placed a Canon 5Dmk4 with 70-200/2.8 and an Atomos 7 Recorder on top and it held up no problem. The only downside that I can see, from a purely Videography standpoint, that is that the pan function is not very easy. That being said however, this is really for photography and if I am using it for video it allows me to setup the camera in positions that would be almost impossible with a traditional video head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Solid I bought this ball head in order to be able to position the camera closer to obstacles while shooting interiors. It accomplishes that by eliminating any protruding handles that let me get a few precious inches closer to a door frame for example. I with it was offered with a quick release plate that matches our other Manfrotto heads though. Very well built and locks nice and firm.
