Vello RFW-C overview

  • 1Description

The FreeWave Fusion Wireless Flash Trigger & Remote Control from Vello is a versatile, reliable remote control kit that will trigger off-camera flash units and studio lights from up to 300 feet away. It can be used to configure up to three different light groups, which can be triggered individually or simultaneously, for a total of seven different combinations, using its multiple groups feature. Simultaneous triggering of multiple light groups requires additional FreeWave Fusion Receivers (available separately).

The FreeWave Fusion also provides the convenience of a wireless camera shutter release, ideal for photographing wildlife, and also for macro and close-up photos or long exposures, where the slightest camera movement can ruin a picture. Working on the 2.4 GHz frequency gives you reduced radio interference and an extended range (up to 320' (100m))—you don't need to have line-of-sight alignment, either, as radio waves will pass through walls, windows and floors.

Since the FreeWave Fusion does not transmit TTL settings, use of a flash or light unit with full manual control is recommended. You will need to set the power output manually.

The FreeWave Fusion is compatible with most cameras, flash units and studio lights. However, for flash wake-up functionality and/or high shutter speeds, you will need full Canon TTL support via your camera, flash and FreeWave Fusion trigger.
This remote does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for use with flash units that have a trigger voltage of more than 6V.

2.4GHz Radio Frequency
Reduced interference and improved wireless signal quality.
Extended Range
Range of up to 320' (100m)
Use as an individual or group wireless flash trigger, and/or as a shutter release remote trigger.
Multiple Groups
Configure up to three different light groups and up to seven different group combinations.
Flash Sync Speed of Up to 1/320s
Take advantage of sync speeds that match the rating of your camera all the way up to 1/320s (on compatible cameras only).
Flash Wake-Up
Simply depress the trigger button on the transmitter half-way to pull the flash out of "sleep-mode". Sleep mode allows the flash to power down in between shooting sessions to extend battery life. The wake-up function is only available when used as part of a complete Canon TTL system.

Note! If your flash does not have a wake-up function, you may be able to turn off sleep mode. Refer to your flash's manual for instructions.
One receiver works with multiple camera and light models. Just swap out the connecting cables.
Dual-Function Shutter Release Button
Press halfway to focus; press fully to trigger shutter.
LED Indicators
Confirm pre-focus, shutter release, flash wake-up, and flash trigger in wireless mode.

FreeWave Fusion Wireless Flash Trigger & Remote Control for Canon SLR is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 108.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flexible, fair price Nothing but good things to say about this kit. I've used it with my Canon 7d, 580 ex II, and 430 ex speedflashes, and it works very well in portraits and some creative work I've done. I always shoot my flashes in manual mode, so the lack of ettl settings doesn't bother me. I also love the fact that this unit doubles as a wireless shutter release with no need for line of sight(radio waves instead of infra red). They do feel like they are manufactured a little on the flimsy side, but I haven't done any harm to them yet. Excellent product for a fair price. I can buy 3 of these setups for 1 pocket wizard setup, so the value is there too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flash triggers that work You can't go wrong with the Freewave Fusion flash triggers. I used them straight from the box for an outdoor photo session at ranges up to 150 feet - outdoors. I even tested them over a lake - no problem. They fired my Photogenic flashes every time. Exposure was consistent and they were a snap to use, even for different groups of flashes. With several channels, I'll never be interfered with and don't have to 'slave' a flash at weddings. Other people regularly trigger slaved flashes with their cameras, and it's a pain. They can even be used to remotely trigger your camera. I will happily recommend these to my friends.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good wireless flah trigger Very good wireless triggers they work flawless, I replace my PocketWizart II with these FreeWare. I do architectural photography and they do fine through the walls and distance. I did not give them five starts because the hot shoe mount of the receivers are made with a very weak plastic I already broke one, to resolve this problem I mount to the receiver a hot shoe adapter that I already have and I'm ordering two more adapters BH part # RYHSA.25BRS.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product for the Price! This remote flash trigger works very well and appears well made. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is Vello's rather optimistic claims of a 100 meter (320 foot) range. I tested the unit outside within line of sight with Canon 430EXII and 580EXII flash units. The range for reliable triggering is more like 100 feet not 320 feet! That said, you can always verify whether or not the unit will fire the attached flash by pressing the transmitter release button half way. If you see the LED on the receiver display green, the flash will fire! Using a Canon 5DMKII (or other Canon ETTL compatible camera) with the transmitter in the hot shoe, depressing the shutter release part way will also display green on the receiver LED if you are within range. This feature also wakes up the flash unit if it has gone to the sleep mode. Note that this remote DOES NOT transmit ETTL data to the remote flashes nor does it claim to. Each remote flash must be placed in the MANUAL mode and manually set to the desired power level. For Canon, this limits use of this remote to flash units with an LCD display for power level control. All in all, an excellent remote trigger for the price. The transmitter will control 3 groups of flashes (you need to buy additional receivers if you are using more than one flash unit). Each group can be turned on or off separately from the transmitter. The transmitter and receiver have easily accessible dip switches to permit selection of 16 differenct operating frequencies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Product! So far, this wireless remote has by far gone above and beyond expectations! I have not ever been out of range of the receiver because I never have enough room and there has never been anything in my way that prevented the wireless remote from working. What sold this wireless remote to me was that it comes ready to be attached to many different types of cameras, which I feel is very handy verses having different remotes for different cameras. There has never been any lag in reception and it especially helps in low light situations when I need to turn my shutter speed down a little. It's an excellent product and I would recommend it to anybody that owns a DSLR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I got these triggers a couple weeks ago as a Christmas gift. They've been working great so far, feels nice to finally get my flash off camera. A couple things I've noticed are that they don't seem to work while I'm in live view, which isn't a big deal for me, considering I ise the view finder 95% of the time. Also, the ETTL mode doesn't seem to work through them, but once again, not a big issue cause I have my flash on manual 99% of the time. Other than those two things that seemed strange to me, they've worked perfectly. I'm very satisfied with them, especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Alternative to Master Flash Recently switched from a Canon 7D to the 5D Mark III and I needed a way to fire my Canon 430exII flash off camera. I just couldn't swing the cost of another flash as a master so I tried this Vello flash trigger. So far they have worked great. I will be using these for a portrait session in a couple of weeks and will try to update the review afterwards with more detail on the performance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great and reliable A great device to take flash off the camera. It is easy to set up and works every time. A good remote control for the camera when not using flash. Comes with connectors to use as remote for different types of camera. It works great for my Canon 6D.
