Whilst I am confident of the durability of the case itself, is the foam enough padding to protect DSLRs and lens from rough handling at an airport? Eg if the case was thrown/dropped by baggage handlers, will camera bodies and lens be unaffected?
Asked by: Ben
Yes this would protect the equipment inside very well, I would recommend leaving roughly 1-2 inches of foam around the outside just for peace of mind, but I have had no issues with any of my equipment being damaged with these rolling through airports.

question

I've read that the color of the case affects the relative 'hotness' of the exterior when in the sun. Black being the worst (no surprise). Any feedback on how color choice affects the inside temperature of the case?
Asked by: Erik L.
Personally, I do not think it has a huge impact on temperature. While it may be possible for the exterior of a black or darker-colored case to seem warmer than a lighter-colored case, I do not know of anyone who has taken the internal temperature of the cases to compare the internal temperature difference. However, from personal experience of both assisting other professional photographers and using my own gear in Pelican cases of various colors in summer in both Louisiana and Texas, I have had no issues with my (or others') gear in Pelican cases in 100+ degree weather. Pelican's website states that the cases will withstand temperatures from -40C (-10F) to +98.9C (+210F). Do also note that the military also uses Pelican cases in both extreme heat and cold, and the cases can handle heat. However, if you are severely concerned about temperature for some reason, you can get a custom case from Pelican, and they do manufacture temperature-controlled interiors, though you would have to contact Pelican directly for assistance with custom cases.
