Vello OCD-U33 overview

  • 1Description

With the Vello Duo TTL Off-Camera Flash Cord you can set up a single flash for off-camera lighting and retain your entire camera's TTL (through the lens) flash functions. Multiple contact pins support TTL-compatible flashes used with Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Pentax and some Samsung digital cameras. The off-camera hot shoe can mount to accessory shoes or 1/4"-20 threaded studs on tripods, booms, or light stands.

In Manual mode (non-TTL function) you can use two flashes together, both synchronized with your shutter release to create amazing lighting effects and two-light setups. Each terminal has a hot shoe so you can still keep one flash on the camera while setting up the other flash somewhere else.

Note: Flash units must be compatible with each other (if using two) and with the camera for synchronization to take place. TTL functions work only in single flash setups.

Compatibility
The Duo TTL Cord is compatible with the following: Canon E-TTL, E-TTL II hot shoe cameras, Nikon i-TTL hot shoe cameras (and Fujifilm S-Series and other cameras that used the Nikon system), Pentax P-TTL hot shoe cameras, and Samsung SLR (excluding NX series) cameras.

This cord works with flash units from the following manufacturers with cameras listed above: Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fujifilm, Nissin, Sunpak, Sigma, Metz, and Samsung (non-SEF series).

Universal Duo TTL Off-Camera Flash Cord (33') is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for controlling a remote speedlite I use this to trigger a Canon 580EXII mounted inside a Wescott Apollo softbox for portraits. I like to use the flash on manual control and this setup allows you to adjust the light output from the back of a 7D vs. going inside the softbox and adjusting the flash. The 580 can still work as a master, triggering fill and hair lights with built in wireless preflash. You can control output on A, B and C groups independently from the camera in manual mode. Plastic shoe mount build quality seems reasonable compared to my shorter Canon off camera ETTL cord. The only reason for 4 star rating is you have to twist/untwist the entire length in order to stretch it out or coil it back up which is kind of a hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vello Universal Duo TTL Off-Camera Flash I had an incredibly hard time finding a cable that was long enough to suit my needs, I called B&H support and they led me to this incredible product in no time at all. This allows me to work anywhere at a moments notice while maintaining the ability to control my lighting. The product is small and easily fits into a backpack/camera bag. I carry this around with me everywhere I go and it has been key in creating perfect images in places where I normally would not have had the gear to get the results I wanted. I highly reccomend this product, very high quality at an affordable price

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works... but hard to connect Does what it says, and once you establish a connection it works well. However, I've used it on both a Canon Rebel t1i and Canon 6D and making the connection to the camera's hot shoe is extremely finicky. You have to slide it back and forth a bit while tightened down (but not all the way) to get it to click into place. If you slide it in the hot shoe all the way, it appears to be pushed too far forward and the camera doesn't see the flash. It takes me a few minutes every time I connect it to get it just right. Once connected and tightened down it worked flawlessly. I used it continuously during a 5 hour shoot, constantly taking the camera on and off the tripod and moving around the room and it never failed. I'd give it more stars if the connection was easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If cost is a concern! I wasn't ready to spend the money on pocket wizards, so this is a great solution to remotely trigger your flash. You can even daisy-chain multiple chords together to allow more flash units to be used. The units are mostly consistent - however they do trigger on their own sometimes - but for the money - that does not bother me one bit. I know some would complain about having cables running from camera to flash to flash, etc., but again, this minor inconvenience does not outweigh the cost effectiveness of this device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice long cord for off camera flash I have the wireless option as well and it costs so much more than the cord and occasionally misfires / out of sync. I thought I would purchase the long cord and give it a try for my new camera. The cord is durable and i prefer the longer length (6' up for camera, another 6' up for flash gives about 21' to position the flash). I got the flat cable to avoid the bungee effect of the short, spiral cords. Very happy with the purchase. Came quickly in the mail. Downside it takes up more space and much heavier than the wireless option. For travel or heavy foot traffic I use wireless.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great when it works properly When this works properly it is great. When it doesn't it's no better than a cheap RF trigger. I've been having trouble getting this cord to ETTL sync with my 7D. When it doesn't sync it just fires the flash with no control from the camera. When it does sync you get full control over exposure settings, including HSS. If it worked reliably I'd give 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional service I bought this cord a while back to experiment with off-camera flash. It would work fine but only after considerable fiddling with the flash to the hot-shoe connection and was just too much bother. I gave a review to that effect and wrote off the $$ I had spent on it.Upon receiving my review, B&H emailed me saying that they had contacted the manufacturer who in turn suggested that I might have received a defective copy and that they would replace it. When I then wrote back that the shipping cost would negate most of the value of that transaction, esp. since I had already found an alternative, B&H went one step further and refunded my original purchase price. It is absolutely refreshing to experience that level of customer service in this day and age. So to both Vello and B&H, I say BRAVO! I would not hesitate to buy from either in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great cord but not for all flashes This cord will work great for dedicated flash units. It doesn't say this in description. The cord will NOT work with aftermarket flash units like Sunpack, youngnuo. Won't trigger them at all manual or anything. When I attached my 430ex it worked flawless. Good cord just make sure you have the required flashes.
