Icy Dock MB882SP-1S-2B overview

  • 1Description

The Icy Dock MB882SP-1S-2B 2.5" to 3.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive Converter is a handy, simple-to-use tool for converting your SATA 2.5" hard disk or solid state drive into a 3.5"-sized drive. The converter is lightweight and extremely simple to use. All you do is open the cover, properly insert your 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD, insert the converter into your computer's 3.5" bay, and connect to it with the appropriate cable. Because the converter is a standard size and utilizes universal mounting holes for most common PC casings, you can install it into a 3.5" bay for a desktop computer, workstation, or server case without needing screws or tools. As you install the converter, you can utilize the viewing window above the SATA connection to ensure that your drive is properly connected. Once your drive is connected and running, the built-in air-flow vents as well as the viewing window in the coverter work to dissipate heat within your computer. All told, the converter is great for using your 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD in a desktop, workstation, or server computer.

Converts your 2.5" SATA I/II hard disk drive or solid state drive to a 3.5" SATA hard drive. That way, you can insert the converter into a 3.5" SATA drive bay and use your 2.5" SATA I/II drive with your desktop or workstation computer
Viewing slots are placed over the SATA connection area which allow you to verify that your hard disk drive or solid state drive has made a secure connection
The converter utilizes the viewing slots as airflow vents and has other vents for extra cooling with your SSD or HDD as it runs in your computer
The converter is light-weight and requires no screws or tools for holding a 2.5" SATA solid state or hard disk drive. It also requires no screws or tools for installing the converter itself into a computer's 3.5" SATA bay
The simplicity of this converter makes it easy to use among both the tech-savvy and the less tech-inclined
Compatible with most 3.5" hard disk drive enclosures and with the Mac Pro

    Icy Dock MB882SP-1S-2B reviews

MB882SP-1S-2B 2.5" to 3.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive Converter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical and convenient adapters ... I just assembled a new computer and went with a motherboard that has a couple of SATA III ports. In order to use all this motherboard ( Asus P8Z68-V GEN3 ) has to offer I bite the bullet and bought a couple of Crucial 128GB m4 Solid State Drives ( B&H # CRM4128SSD ) and set them in RAID 0 as a boot drive on Windows 7 64-bit. My PC tower case is a Zalman GS1000 Titanium and it only has 3.5 hard disk bays. In order to easily mount my Crucial SSDs on the Zalman tower case I bought a couple of this Icy Dock hard drive converters. I was a little worry about the Icy Dock cases not beeing SATA III capable. But that was NOT the case. Using SATA III cables and housing the SSD drives inside the Icy Docks MB882SP-1S-2B gave me the full 6Gbps speed on both drives in my boot RAID 0 configuration. Wow, the boot speed, the access to any file, the start and closing of any program or the search on huge Microsoft Outlook files is impressive and worth every single dollar I have paid. I really recommend this adapters, they do the job and protect nicely the SSDs in your computer case. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Icy Dock Hard Drive Conver in a Mac Pro. I have a Mac Pro and this enclosure lines the drive up perfectly. For two years I supported a 2.5 inch SSD with an old cassette tape box. This works fine, by the way, if you are not planning on moving the machine or switching the drive around. Unfortunately, this drive has to alternate between two machines, so the Icy Dock is perfect. If it were going to have stayed in one stable machine, I probably would have stuck with the cassette box!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Simple and Easy. I decided to upgrade the HDD in my wife's early 2008 iMac to an SSD drive, with the only hassle being that I had to fit a 2.5 drive form into a 3.5 slot. This Convertor worked a treat... simple to install. The whole process of putting the SSD into this convertor took less than a minute... overall the changeover took less than hour. Excellent result thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect when replacing iMac HDD with SSD This is just a converter that accepts 2.5 drives into a chassis that fits into any standard 3.5 drive holder. All the screw holes line up so you can properly secure your 2.5 drive in a spot designed for a 3.5 drive.I use these in iMacs for replacing the internal 3.5 drive with an SSD. These Icy Docks are the best I've found at doing this job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Apple G5s I bought this converter mount to house an SSD I recently bought for my Apple G5 computer. This mount accurately has the pins connecting to the computer off-center. Some mounts line the connecting pins directly in the middle, which will not work for the G5. It was easy to install the SSD and easy to mount. Recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly The case does exactly what I had hoped... allowed me to mount a SSD drive in a spot made for a 3.5 hard drive. It's nothing fancy... a hard plastic box that slides open for the SSD. Put the drive in, slide everything back together and mount it in your computer case. Looks better than using zip ties or tape.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from can get a better one for a little more money I bought it to use with DROBO. You can not use it unless you do a mechanical change to it. So you need special tool to make it work. After I did it - it working. So far - good enough. So I bought another model for just $ at B&H ( I use 8).Work great and no adjustments and tools required.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly works as expected. I needed to convert a 2.5 SSD into a 3.5 slot for a SAS back-plane for an HP workstation. This worked perfectly no screws needed. Only wish it was made out of metal or had some sort of heat-sink dissipation material. Besides that, I would probably buy it again when the need comes.
