The NEX-FS100U Super 35mm Sensor Camcorder is Sony's first affordable and fully professional large-sensor video camera. Hot on the heels of the PMW-F3, this compact, highly modular camera uses the same S35-size CMOS sensor as the F3. Unlike smaller, broadcast-style sensors or the larger "full-frame" sensors of some DSLRs, the NEX-FS100's imaging area matches that of standard Hollywood film cameras, providing complete compatibility with cine-style film lenses (via optional adapters) as well as any of Sony's E-Mount lenses. The sensor's large size offers a variety of other advantages, including increased control over depth of field, higher sensitivity in low light, lower image noise, and an exceptional dynamic range.

question
I bought this camcorder several years ago. I'm looking for a replacement VF viewfinder which attaches to the LCD screen. Can they be found?
That may still be available, as a service part from Sony. You would need to contact them directly.

question
What external monitors are compatible with the Sony FS100? Looking for an easily-attachable monitor to assist with exposure and focus, between 5-6 .
I don't use an external monitor as I have gotten good results in terms of controlling the focus using the eyepiece and expanded focus feature. However, having an external monitor is certainly a good way to go. To me it would be best to get a monitor with HDMI, as this would easily plug into the HDMI out of the camera. I visited the Marshall booth at NAB and they seem to have good products. Here's one from B&H: Marshall Electronics V-LCD651ST-HDMI-JM 6.5 Field/Camera-Top Monitor. Their monitors looked good on the convention floor but I have not used any of them in the field.

question
I am not able to adjust my IRIS. The only time the IRIS moves is when I adjust the shutter speed, then the IRIS adjusts automatically. All my settings are on manual. I press the IRIS button and it highlights A, but am unable to adjust the IRIS with the wheel. Is this a technical flaw?
A couple of things could be happening. First- when you say you are unable to adjust with the wheel, does the wheel turn at all or is it stuck. If stuck, then its a mechanical issue, as it should adjust fairly easily. Next, is the lens mounted correctly, have you changed lenses - the contacts on the mount must be at full contact for the iris to work. Also, make sure you press the iris button to move it to manual (the A in front of the reading indicates Auto) . This is the top button above the wheel- not the bottom one. That is just a check button. Finally, make sure your auto manual button over the menu display buttons is on manual. Other than that it should work, unless it is a lens issue, which I have not heard of on this model.

question
How do you download cards?
This camera uses standard (though Class 10 or above) SDHC (High Capacity capable) cards. The camera has a USB port (I believe it is class 2, so a bit slow) on it that you can connect to a computer and use the cam as a reader, but an external reader is ideal. I use a USB3 reader and it is SUPER fast directly to my internal SSD drives or to a ThunderBolt RAID rig (I am on a Mac). You can also plug these directly into many laptops that have an SD card slot built in (MacBook Pro models mostly do). Either way you should get fast loads. I also suggest a third party conversion software to transcode the format for your particular editing program before ingesting the footage. I use Wondershare Video Converter (about $60) and it can transcode into nearly every codec I have ever needed. It is also useful for taking your final edit and coding it into the delivery format. I export everything into 1080p MOV Master Files from Final Cut X and then recode or resize down for 720p or NTSC, etc. in MOV or MP4 formats for the most part. Sure beats the heck out of tape!

question
Is this camera LANC-equipped? Specifically, can I use this product with it: Sony RM1BP Remote CommanderB&H # SORM1BP MFR # RM1BP
Yes... and it comes with a remote, but the lens will not be movable via lanc. There is a separate add-on that allows for servo zoom but it won't control focus. You'd have to run it in autofocus and hope for the best, there's no way to control that portion via lanc.
