    Datacolor DC SLC100 reviews

SpyderLensCal Autofocus Calibration Aid is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 193.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well Before purchasing the LensCal, I tried to micro-adjust my lenses using a black/white/grey card and a ruler. After using the LensCal I discovered my homemade setup was not nearly as accurate as the LenCal. Recommend using the LensCal in B&W mode rather than color to better distinguish which line is darker. Instructions do not say what increment each of the lines on the scale represent. For my camera the large numbers seem to correspond to 10 notches on the camera adjustment setting. It takes a little bit of time to set up and a few iterations to get a lens dialed in but I think it is work the effort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Simple, Effect Focus Aid The Spyderlnescal is a well-constructed, easy to use device to help fine tune the auto-focus systems on select DSLR's which have that feature. I found it very easy to set up and use with a Nikon D300. The scale was clear enough that I was able to make fine adjustments just using the camera's rear screen. The kit is all self-contained. It is constructed of heavy plastic which folds into position or flat for storage. It has a built-in bubble level and a brass 1/4-20 thread for a tripod. There is a product manual and a video on the Datacolor site for suggestions on using the Spderlenscal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works good I used this to calibrate my Canon 5D-III & 7D-II to Canon's new 100-400 IS-II Zoom, which did need a bit of tweaking. I set it on a light stand at the same level as the tripod-mounted cameras, at about 10 feet distance, and calibrated both ends of the zoom range, using magnified live view. The provided user guide is a little sparse, but using the Canon camera user's manual, plus a few YouTube tutorials, the procedure wasn't difficult to accomplish. The 100-400 IS-II zoom is now tack sharp! Definitely worth the investment to keep my gear tuned-up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Product After a disastrous trial with the FoCal 2.0 Pro product (read my review), for which B&H graciously issued an RMA, I decided a more straightforward approach to lens focus calibration was required. The Spyder product did the job perfectly. This is not a cheesey cardboard product, but very well constructed with plastic. It includes a bubble level and a threaded receiver for mounting on a tripod. I was able to calibrate three Nikon lenses to my D800E in about half an hour. It was a simple and intuitive process with results that were easily verifiable. Highly recommended

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gets the job done, but way overpriced This little gadget certainly gets the job done, but it's more flimsy than I was expecting. It's also like the Mona Lisa: in person, it's smaller than you'd expect. Personally, I would have found it more helpful had the incremental lines on the ruler been printed using thicker lines.Overall, it's very helpful calibrating the camera's AF system to my lens collection, but, now that I've seen it and spent a few minutes using it, I could have easily made something myself for the cost of a few index cards. If you have money to spend, it works as advertised, but I'd recommend saving your $ for some other gadget and made a homemade rig for this task, instead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Couldn't figure this out The reason that I am giving this product is because there is little to no explaination as to how to accurately use this product to it's full potential. It came with the box and no explanations. I did attempt to calibrate my lenses but to no avail. I could barely see any difference after researching how to get the best results. I am unsure if this product is worth buying or not because I could not see the difference in my images after attempting to use it based on the instructions that I had to search for. The 3 stars is based solely on the lack of instructions and support and not so much as to the value of the product. I willing admit that my results are based most likely on user err because of the lack of instructions.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea but not clear how to use I give this 3 stars because the instructions are unclear on how to use them and there are conflicting reports on the web. Its a great idea and I think perfect to get piece of mind if you shoot wide open. My only gripe is the conflicting reports on where to aim the focus point and the distance to shoot from. This device needs to be as perfect as possible when set up to ensure accuracy and I don't feel 100% confident I have done so correctly. granted it could just be me but canon and datacoour have conflicting distances and a few places conflict with aiming the focal point on the kain target vs the small target left of the ruler.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not That Easy This product is not that easy to setup specially if you mount it on a tripod. Getting the target and camera to be parallel to each other is difficult and crucial. Other problem I had was for the recommend target distance I could hardly see any changes to make proper decision about front or back focusing so I had to move in closer. Support from LensCal is mediocre too. Price of this product for what it can do (if you can do it) is high.
