Sima SL-100IR overview

  • 1Description

Sima's SL-100IR Infrared LED Light helps you find your way through the dark. Utilizing 36 cool-to-the-touch infrared LEDs, this shoe-mountable video light works with your camcorder's IR shooting mode to help you capture all the things that go bump in the night. The super bright LEDs cast their nocturnal glow up to 75 ft away, so you can observe and record both man and beast while remaining as unobtrusive (and invisible) as possible.

The light's patented interlocking design lets you up the illumination by easily combining units, while the included video bracket and tripod mount give you the flexibility of moving the light off-center or adding additional accessories to the camera's shoe mount. Also included are a lithium-ion battery and AC adapter/charger, providing the option of battery or AC power.

Note: Camera must feature IR shooting mode for SL-100IR to work.

Unlimited power: AC or lithium-ion battery (included). If either power source fails, the other takes over.
Patented interlocking design is limited only by your creativity.

    Sima SL-100IR reviews

SL-100IR Infrared LED Light is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good infrared flash. This flash works well with any video that has the infrared capability. It only produces infrared light, so don't expect to see anything with regular cameras. GoPro and several other manufactures produce good video cameras. Power lasts about an hour. It has a rechargeable battery or you can plug it in and use it, but if you're on the go, that doesn't mean anything. I would have given it five stars if the rechargeable battery was something you could swap out -- have several pre-charged, so you can just replace and keep going. It takes a couple hours to charge, so the replaceable batteries would be optimal. Maybe a future release.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WAY MORE THAN I EXPECTED!! I use this light for my ghost hunting hobby. It is perfect for lighting up an entire room and capturing anything creeping in the dark! If you are going to be in a very wide open facility or warehouse type place, you will need several of these lights to help illuminate the entire space, but...they will work, and they have this nifty little clip on each light, so that you can connect them to one another to build a wall of light!! The attachment it comes with for attaching it to a camera or tripod is a little hard to manipulate as far as tightening and all that, but man...for the price of this light...you couldn't ask for anything better! It's great!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to add extra power I am using these with my Panasonic HC-W850 and my Panasonic HX-A1. I use 4 SIMA units locked together with the W850 and use 1 SIMA unit with HX-A1. The HX-A1 can be mounted right on the SIMA light creating a very small night vision camera rig. I am uploading images of this setup. If you look at the power charger for the SIMA you will note it is 5V and 2 Amps. Sound familiar? It is the same as the output of many newer external battery packs to charge cell phones. For example the B&H # HY13458 battery pack. All you need is a battery with a USB port of 2.1 Amps or 12 Watts. Plus a Cable with a 1.7 mm male plug on one end and USB connector on the other end. This cable is only a few dollars and is known formally as a USB Charging Cable USB To DC Power Cable 4.0mm x 1.7mm Charge Supply DC 5V 2A. P.S. If you have a dual USB ports battery (2.1 amps per port) you can power both the SIMA IR light and the Panasonic HX-A1 at the same time from the same battery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright in Dark Places I purchased this IR Light for filming night time Kayak fishing for my blog. For such a little light the SIMA SL-100IR is very bright, it is so bright that I am currently looking for ways to diffuse or dim it's output for close-range use. One thing that I love about this light is that it can be operated both by AC or by the internal battery which is a feature that is not found in my old SIMA lights. The battery life is good for the amount of light being generated. I do wish this light were engineered more for outdoor use. This light is NOT weather resistant for use in wet environments. I wrap mine in plastic to keep it dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light up the night.. The inexpensive way I use the Sima SL-100IR Infrared Led light to film metal detecting hunts at night. I have a Sony DCR-DVD810. The IR illuminator that is on the camera is not enough light to video even close up targets. So I did a little research and found the SIMA. All I can say is LET THERE BE LIGHT!. I wouldn't recommend trying to film past 30 to 40 feet, unless inside and complete dark. Most of my hunt films are closer than 10 feet and the light is bright enough to zoom in and even do macro on items I find. It even comes with a mounting bracket that gets it out of the way and at an angle that puts the light anywhere you need it. A definite + and I highly recommend the SL-100IR for this application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product - great price I was looking for a good IR light for my Sony nightvision camcorder and was just about to order one on ebay when I happened to fing the B&H website. The one I got from B&H was cheaper was only 1 day shipping away. This Sima light made a HUGE difference in how much I could see at night with my camcorder. A pitch black room literally looks like daylight when recording now. It supposedly has a low battery life but I have had used it for well over 1-1/2 hours with no problems. When I'm done I leave it on and let it totally drain before I recharge it. The included mounting bracket was nice too because the other brand I was considering was going to charge me $19 for their bracket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works on Full Spectrum This review is based on 2 cameras, The Canon T2i Rebel which was modified to Full Spectrum by Gary Honis, and the Nikon, D5200 which is brand new out of the box, no modifications, but has what is called night mode, or low light mode. It did not do well at all with the Nikon D5200, however it worked like a champ on my full spectrum Canon T2i, which has no UVIR filter over the ccd. In order to get Full Spectrum though, you have to modify a perfectly good camera, and void the warranty, or have a camera with true IR vision mode. As advertised it puts out light at 850nm which normal cameras cannot see. The Nikon does not see into the IR, it just amplifies available light. so be careful when purchasing, that your camera can see in this spectrum of light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from awesome Purchased three to use with a radio controlled 4X4 with video camera. Removed the IR filter from a sony lifecam cinema and I get solid 50 foot lighting outdoors with all three turned on. Worked so well I could not believe it. Use a 6mm screw for remote mounting, then spin locking ring up to get rid of flimsiness(sp?). You can modify these to run on external batteries for longer running times. These will not work if you are looking for complete invisibility as they give off a dark, soft red glow (does not matter in my application).
