The Pod GR0079 Overview

  • 1Description

The Green Pod from The Pod is a bean bag that serves as a camera platform for DSLRs with zoom lenses up to 200mm long. The Green Pod is constructed of sturdy nylon and filled with plastic pellets, which can be removed and added in order to customize the Pod based on your specific camera/lens and the requirements of a particular shot. The stable camera platform is ideal for shooting outdoors from unpredictable surfaces.

The Green Pod features a 1/4"-20 screw at the edge, enabling you to mount a camera with a zoom lens. An included adjustable strap can be threaded through the pod's loops in order to secure the camera's lens to the bean bag. The 0.75 lb bag is small and light enough to travel with your everyday gear, ready for any opportunity to support your camera.

The Green Pod is sealed with a strong hook & loop fastener that can be opened and closed as many times as needed. You can change out the plastic pellets for any other stuffing. With a green vinyl bottom and water-resistant nylon shell, the Green Pod is suitable for use in rainy conditions.

Malleable shape allows you to set up the Green Pod on any surface, such as benches, cars, ledges, rocks, the ground, etc.
A hook & loop position pad on top of the Green Pod reduces camera slippage
Straps can also be used to attach the Green Pod itself to a rig or other object
Non-marking, non-slip base

    The Pod GR0079 Reviews

The Green Pod Camera Platform is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little piece of gear. I bought this to use on shoots that I can't bring sticks to. I often shoot bands in clubs and have often wanted to make use of ledges, bars and table tops because it can be very difficult to shoot in such a small space when on sticks (or they don't permit it at all). I used it last night to film a band and set it on the table top at the bar and it worked fantastic. After receiving it, I put it on my dashboard and drove through Malibu Canyon and got some great car shots of the canyons. Great when you wanna be a bit gorilla or covert in a club setting or anywhere you can't drop sticks. Money well spent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful, right size, functional Should have purchased one of these a long time ago, kept using whatever I had in my pocket, lifting up the camera and leaving my stuff. Not good. This is lightweight, the plastic fill works quite well, and I don't mind having the 1/4-20 screw, it's easy to just ignore it and still get good camera support. Less expensive than others, and comes with the fill. A good choice for DSLR.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for tricky setup situations! The Green Pod is a fantastic tool for those situations in which a tripod won't work but you don't want to balance your camera in an unsafe location. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to get a self-portrait on the trail but the only place to set up the camera was on a rock - this solves that problem! Easy to use and lightweight, so you'll barely notice it in your backpack. My only complaint is the shape - it might be better designed to contour to the bottom of a camera, rather than its current design, in which the back of the camera hangs off the edge a bit. Overall, great inexpensive purchase to throw in my bag for hikes, travel and landscape shoots!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Item !! I use a Pod a lot. It's a very quick and easy substitute for a tripod and useful in situations where a tripod is not an option. I have two (green & red). My only comment is that I wish they provided a cover for the tripod screw because I often use it without screwing it in and the screw can scratch. Overall it's one of my most useful photographic tools and I always have one with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works where a tripod doesn't I needed a way to stabilize my Nikon D300 in NYC when I was shhoting the Christmas lights. Trying to use a tripod with the crowded sidewalks was not practical, so I used this pod with very good success. My stock agency accepted several of my images that i shot with it. The trick is to find a friendly mailbox, bench, or fence to rest the pod on. Although it has a tripod mount, i didn't use it rather just put pressure on the camera as I was taking the shot. I think this would provide sharp shots of 1-2 seconds with a bit of practice.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Green Pod is a Very Poor Design The number of positive reviews is a big surprise. This Green Pod is advertised as primarily to be used with DSLRs and telephoto zoom lenses. I should have observed the image shown more carefully, since by inspection both the strap and pad prevent zooming and focusing. I have no idea what the velcro pad underneath the lens is to be used for. Neither my Olympus nor Canon systems work without great compromise. It's a big disappointment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Multiple uses given some thought I have used the pod as a protective device. It can protect a longer lens by being a support/cover on a railing..etc to lay on. The loops on the pod used for the strap can be useful with other bindings. I'm finding that it would be nicer to have the threaded screw longer making it easier for attachment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very nice... my review, I I received the pod fairly quickly. it's a very nice size and, it is a great support for my camera. you screw it into the bottom of your camera, and strap your lens down. it feels really good in a palm of my hand when I'm holding my camera taking pictures. sometimes you even forget it's even there, it's so comfortable to use. and when you do need it, it's really nice that you can set it on any surface that is uneven and, get a great level shot. there were a few things I read about, buying a little canvas bag, some plastic beads and, just making your own bean bag. to that I have to say, these pods are made of really nice strong, very durable material. and if you buy a bag and beans yourself and, make your own, there's no doubt in my mind, that quality won't come close to the quality of these pods. By the time you spend the money on subpar materials, you can just spend a few dollars more and, get something of great quality, these pods are very inexpensive and totally worth it.

Does this work on Tameron 150-600 MM lens?
    Asked by: Ken
It will fit on that lens but will it work. I would have to say no. That's a long lens you're talking about. I have used the Pod with two of my lenses, my 24-105 f/4 L and My Canon 50mm f/1.4. It works great with the 50, the 24-105 no so much. The camera tends to tip forward a bit. Once it's tipped forward it's stable but not the support that I was looking for. The reason I got it was to you in dimly lit places where you can't take a tripod, likes churches, that's where I like to use my 50mm. Hope this helps.

I use a Sony DSLR with a vertical grip and most often a 35/105 zoom. Will this work with the grip installed?
    Asked by: Bob
The Pod The Green Pod Camera Platform will not work well when the vertical grip is connected, if one is using the 1/4 20 camera mount on the Green Pod platform. But one can use the included adjustable strap threaded through the pod's loops to secure the camera's lens to the bean bag. Using the strap will allow the platform to secure the camera when using a grip on the camera.

Don't see why not. More often than not we don't even attach it. Just creates a very stable base.

Is this good for the 7D with a zoom on?
    Asked by: Anonymous
I used mine on safari with a 55-300 zoom and it worked well on the top of their vehicle. I will admit that I used their bean bag more often only because it was so much wider than the pod that I could leave it slightly over the edge of the vehicle and it would stay put allowing me to change lenses more easily. The green pod worked great though
