Vanguard 323AT Overview

The Vanguard Auctus Plus 323AT Aluminum Tripod is a heavy-duty, tall tripod that supports loads of almost 40 lb and facilitates extremely precise height adjustments by way of its advanced geared center column. It's a sturdy, versatile support for almost any head, camera & lens combination, for use in the studio or outdoors.

Setup of the 323AT is easy, as anti-rotation legs allow both of a leg's locks to be turned with a single twist of the wrist. These secure locks seal out dust and sand to ensure continued reliable performance even in adverse conditions. Leg scales help you ensure that the three legs are extended to the same height. With the legs and the center column fully extended, the tripod reaches a maximum height of 70.9".

The center column extends via the ultra-smooth Extreme Support Height Positioning (ESHP) wheel system, a dual-function wheel gear that has a finer or faster effect depending on whether its handle is flipped in or out. Further, there's a large friction-control knob underneath the canopy, which also enables control over the speed of the column's extension. The ESHP wheel system both facilitates extremely precise height adjustments and supports extremely heavy loads.

The tripod's all-terrain feet convert from anti-rust spikes to angled, textured rubber for smooth surfaces and other terrains. In addition, snow shoes are included to help the tripod's feet from sinking into snow and sand.

Innovative locking camera screw wheel

Rubber foam warmers on all three legs mitigate the effects of extreme heat & cold and provide grip
Ring on chassis allows addition of a shoulder strap (not included)
Large bubble level

question

Does this tripod need a seperate head on it for movement in all directions?
Asked by: Ryan C.
This is a superb tripod. Others like it cost 5x more. I have a heavy ball head on it and load about 7 pounds on and it's rock solid. I use an FLM CB58 with the arca-style srb-60 qr clamp. Get an arca-style clamp for your head. Other possible choices I researched were the Markham, Monoball, Kirk, Sirui, and Gitzo, ball heads. I found this tripod to be an excellent choice for focus stacking. I rely on it's stability.

question

I have a 58mm ball head which is 78mm across at the base. Is the mount plate on this tripod too small for it? What is the diameter of the mount plate? I need a geared tripod that will accommodate a 58mm ball head.
Asked by: Mark B.
I purchased these legs for my son. He tells me that the diameter across the mounting plate is 2 5/16 , which is roughly equivalent to 59mm. These legs are very stable, fairly heavy, and have a pretty good load capacity rating. If it helps, I also purchased the Benro S6 fluid video head to go with tripod for my son. The combo seemed like a good match before I shipped it off to him. He loves it.
