Vello RS-C1II Overview

  • 1Description

Whether you are shooting in the studio or outdoors, the Vello RS-C1II Wired Remote Switch provides photographers using select cameras featuring a 2.5mm connection with a simple way to control exposures and an easy-to-use tool to create more "keepers". The device is larger and more comfortable to use than many other remote devices, with a thick, sturdy cord.

The RS-C1II is compatible with autofocusing, continuous shooting or single image capture, and long exposures. It will autofocus on a half press of the button and trigger the shutter with a full press. Also, users can press the button and slide it forward to lock it for long exposures. Since you can trigger exposures without touching the camera, you will capture sharp, blur-free images. Additionally, the unit does not require batteries as it draws its power from the camera, making it an extremely useful tool to keep in your studio or gear bag.

    Vello RS-C1II Reviews

RS-C1II Wired Remote Switch for Select Cameras with 2.5mm Sub-Mini Connections is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 341.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Good and the Bad I use these mostly for focus-stacking, which requires anywhere from 10-100+ images per stack depending on your subject and how you want to depict it. I shoot hundreds, if not thousands, of stacks per year. So I use these a for thousands of images. I go thru one of these per 5K-10K images. No matter how you treat one, it will fail at the point where the wire goes into the body of the remote. You can be careful, you can add additional bracing with rubber glue, etc. No matter what you do, they will fail after a certain amount of usage. But they are cheap and useful, so I always have two on hand when I'm using them -- one to use and the other to replace it when it fails.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works on Fuji XPro2 This wired remote works well on the Fuji XPro2, plugging into the 2.5mm jack. The cost is significantly less than the Fujifilm remote. Half press to focus, and fully press to release the shutter. Push and slide up for long exposure. Does not require batteries, which is a plus. I prefer this over the cable release, so I don't have to unscrew my soft shutter release button (and probably lose it in the process). Another use is to take selfies from your tripod, which will look way better than pictures taken with selfie sticks. If the cable were a foot or two longer, it would be even better for this purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great on Pentax K-3 I use this with my Pentax K-3 for bulb exposure and for some static shots with the 300mm f/4 on the K-3. So easy to use - no battery needed for the remote, just plug the cord into the socket on the camera body and push the switch to initiate the exposure, i.e. no special camera settings to deal with or having to aim the device in a certain direction as with infrared remotes. If there be cases where using a cordless remote is desired or required in one's photography that's another matter, but if not then this wired one work perfectly. The price is so inexpensive that this turned out to be a great purchase from all aspects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, Inexpensive, and Useful After I bought a new camera, I needed a new remote switch. So I bought a fancy wireless one that allows me to schedule intervals. However, it is a complex device, and I need to refer often to the manual. So I bought a second remote shutter release, this one simple, inexpensive, and useful. I use it probably 80% of the time I use a shutter release. I use this when I'm shooting at night, and especially when I'm shooting portraits. It is disconcerting for subjects to stare at the top of your head while you look through a viewfinder, so I set the camera on a tripod even with my head, focus, and then stand next to the camera and talk to the subject. I use the remote switch to shoot image after image. It works like a charm.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Value for money Bought it as my camera doesn't allow 3 sec shutter release delay AND exposure bracketing for HDR (which requires a tripod..) All the functionality of the OEM product at a fraction of the price. However, the micro-jack doesn't fit in the camera very securely and needs fiddling with to make good contact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shutter Switch for your Camera When I got this I was told by other photographers the price is to good to be true this most likely will break easy. Pretty tough for a shutter cable. I shot some amazing photos with both my Canon DSLR and my Pentax DSLR with this shutter release cable. From Nature photography to painting with light. It has a locking slide to keep the shutter button pushed shut so you can do a closed F stop and long exposure with your camera to paint with light and actually move around subjects. The three foot wire I feel could be a little more thicker or heavy duty but as of now I have no complaints. I love this shutter release cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with my Pentax K-3II. Works just fine with my Pentax K-3II.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well constructed cord. The cord is well constructed and works perfectly with my Olympus E-M1 MK II. The only slight weakness is that the release slides a little too easily into the lock position.

    question

    question

Can you recommend an extension cable that will allow me to use it further from the camera?
    Asked by: Anonymous
I went to the B&H store and talked to a professional in person about this and he suggested a LANC extension cable that works perfectly. I use the Vello RS-C1II + a 12-foot ProAm USA LANC Remote Extension Cable (purchased from B&H) on both my Canon EOS 70D and my EOS Rebel XS (which I use to operate a photo booth). On the EOS Rebel XS, it does not require changing any camera settings. Simply plus the LANC extension into the remote port on the side of the camera. connect the Vello corded remote, and it will act as the shutter release when pressed. On the 70D, I have to change the settings to remote trigger in order of the setup to work.
