    Bolt CBP-C1 reviews

CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Select Canon & Bolt VX Series Flashes is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 168.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with the CBP-C1 I bought two CBP-C1 to reduce the recycle time of my two 600EX-RT. They work as expected. The flashes recycle in little more than 1 second after a full power flash and at 1/8 of full power the pilot lamp on the flash stay on after a flash. Not quite able to let the 600EX-RT to follow the 8 FPS rate of my 7D at 1/8 power but on 8 2500mA NiMH cells charged about a week ago and having powered about 150 flashes the flash will fire about every other frame at 8 FPS. Thats better than without external power on the flash. It is more reasonably priced than the original Canon power pack but still pricey considering that it is a quite simple plastic box with a little electronics.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bolt CBP-C1 Poor Build Quality The bolt battery pack works if it is free from defects. I had my Bolt for approximately 8 weeks before the battery pack failed. The battery pack are suppose to switch off from stand-by mode if not used. Instead, the battery pack remains in stand-by mode the entire time batteries are in the tray. Since I load my gear prior to all shoots, my batteries are somewhat drained during transport and setup. Additionally, the battery pack gets hot and will not cool down until I completely remove the battery insert. Canon 24-70 f/2.8L Canon Speedlight 600EX-RT Bolt CBP-C1 w/ PowerEx 2700 mAh AA

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, consistently exposed shots I've been frustrated with my 580ex II's for a while. If I was using the flashes at full power and I didn't wait a full 5-7 seconds between shots, the subsequent shots would be underexposed. I bought 2 of these battery packs (1 for each 580) and had a chance to test them this weekend. I was very pleased with the results. I fired the flashes very quickly (2 seconds or so), and every shot was exposed the same. The only improvement I would suggest is the ability to unplug the cord from the battery pack. I use PocketWizards on my 580's and they require the AC7 shield to function properly. Here's the annoying part, I have to remove the flash from the AC7 to plug/unplug the battery pack. Let me be clear, the inconvenience is NOT at all Bolt's fault. Other than that, I love these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware ... interface issues After reading all the glowing reviews for the CBP-C1, I bought one for use with my 580EX II and MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite. Having never used an external battery pack before, I left the settings on the flash to refresh from internal or external batteries. While using it for a photo shoot I noticed the refresh time started to drop drastically. So I changed the batteries in my battery pack only to find the refresh times stayed the same. After changing the settings to refresh only from the external batteries it would not refresh at all. So I tried it on my MR-14EX and it worked most of the time, but occasionally dropped out. I checked the connector and found that one of the 3 pins on the cord was recessed. I returned it to B&H for repair and bought the Canon CP-E4 battery pack. It worked perfectly on both flashes plus when you plug it into the flash, unlike the Bolt, the connector locks tightly into the socket on both flashes. The Bolt definitely has problems with the interface cord design and/or build. The CP-E4 is much better in both design and build quality, well worth the extra cost. By the way, B&H did a great job handling the return of the Bolt unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flash Power When I Need It! I use the compact battery pack to insure I have flash power when I need it. I photograph weddings and special events when using this gadget. The battery pack takes 4-8 AA batteries and you can use additional batteries for your flash. The combined battery power gives you faster recycling time and longer lasting flash power. The cable of the pack connects to the flash and you can either connect the battery pack to the bottom of the camera with a supplied attachment that goes where a tripod would be connected at or it can be strapped to your belt. No more running out of power and waiting for my flash to recycle at the time I need it most. There is nothing bad I can say about this item. It is economically priced and you can count on it to work properly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For the price, why wouldn't you want better performance? If you are a wedding shooter, you already know that your batteries can let you down at the worst times. This battery pack is thin, easy to use, and is what I consider a must-have accessory. Not only will wedding shooters benefit, but anyone shooting events or doing on location portraiture with flash units will benefit. I've purchase two of these so that when I'm shooting a model on location, I won't have to interrupt my shoot at an awkward time to deal with spent batteries. Pack clips to your belt or use the included tripod mount, or like me, rig the pack to hang from a light stand. For this price why wouldn't you try one or two of these?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works the way it should Works to reduce cycle times. Even my old 430EZ cycles in a second or two. Its a little bulky to attach to a camera for on camera flash, but perfect for a light stand. The battery door is a little difficult to use and requires two hands to close, but still good value vs the Canon model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very, very good and I would buy it again and again. I was scary taking a chance on a small battery pack but when I used it and the flash was always ready I was happy as can be. I like the choice of eight batteries or four to operate the flash and using rechargeable batteries gives great power at no extra expense. I used it on a wedding and a banquet with no problems at all.
