Elinchrom Quadra Ringflash ECO Reviews

Functional and good value

I always wanted to try a ring strobe but always thought they are all little over priced. Since I have the Range Quadra system for light location work I got an project that right light would be perfectly suited for. Plus at less that $$it is a steal. With the Quadra I can shoot with my Canon EF 50mm F1.2L lens and at the lowest setting with the snapped on diffuser, I can shoot at F2.0, and that is just incredible.

Just buy it...

Exceptional light. Weight is not an issue as with some other ring flashes.

Good affordable ring flash

The Eco ring flash is a good and affordable ring flash (other brands alternatives are way more expensive) There are no modelling lights, but for a ring flash it's really not a problem unless you want to use it off camera (which is not really what it's designed for) The only cons I have with this flash is the construction: - it's made of plastic, only the rails to attach it to the camera are metal. The plastic doesn't look sturdy: one fall and it will probably break - the included diffuser doesn't attach firmly to the flash head and can easily fall This flash works really well, but even at this low price (regarding existing alternatives) Elinchrom could have used metal instead of plastic. The only advantage of the plastic construction is to make this flash light weight.

This Ringflash was perfect for a skiing shoot on mountain where fast and light apply. I used it to light life style type imagery on Aspen Highlands and it was perfect.

Great Light

As a working fashion pro, it's indispensable. Great light out of a small unit, takes some time to fine tune it, once you find the sweet spot, it's money. A great addition to the quadra family.

Good for the price

I already owned a larger, more cumbersome ring flash. This unit is small, easy to connect to a camera, and works nicely with my Ranger Quadra system. The unit is plastic except for the mounting rails. It is NOT as durable as the higher priced Ranger ring flash (as reflected in the price). Given the price point, I can't complain about the ring flash. I won't rave about it, but certainly think it is exactly as I expected it to be: light, easy to use, and suitable for in studio and on-location uses if care is taken to not rough it up at all.

Great light weight ring flash!

It's a great little ring flash. The color balance isn't as good as my Profoto but for the money it's pretty slick.

Great light for the price. The diffusor plate falls off pretty easily though. Little gaff tape solved that problem pronto. It does get heavy after a while, but the tripod mount helps with this. Due to the mounting bracket and the close proximity of the light to the camera body it is challenging getting to the focus / zoom ring if your hands are larger like mine. The proximity of the ring also blocks most of the focus assist lamp light, so in darker environments focus can be a challenge. A very fun light, but has the high potential to be over used. Be careful!
