An essential lens if ever there was one, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G from Nikon is the classic normal-length prime featuring a bright maximum aperture and lightweight design. Corresponding to the natural field of view, the 50mm focal length is well-suited for a wide variety of subjects, including everything from landscape to portraiture. The f/1.8 design suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables controlling the focus position for using shallow depth of field techniques. One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness and accurate rendering. A Super Integrated Coating also suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, the Silent Wave Motor affords fast, quiet, and precise autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Reviews
A good lens for the money.
I did not want to take my D810 and 24-70 f2.8 on a recent cruise to the Panama Canal. So, I took my trusty old D700 and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Lens that I purchased from B&H. This made it as light as possible and not take up too much space in my luggage. It worked very well and the photos were pleasing. I always shoot with one of my zoom lens, so this was a bit of a challenge getting the shots I wanted. It all worked out but I really missed my NIKKOR 24-70 f2.8.
Love it
I love this lens, happy with this purchase
The best nifty fifty in this price range.
Overall this lens exceeded my expectations for such a low price. My assessments are all done on a focus calibrated D810. Wide open contrast is above average and sharpness is just below average. Sharpness increases quickly on stopping down and by f/2.2 is average. Focus is very quick for a prime and it's accurate too. I was really impressed with the optical quality of this lens and I think it's a no brainer if you're looking for a good all-around 50mm.
Like everyone says... you need this lens!
Creates beautiful bokeh and is a great portrait lens. If you are thinking about getting this lens, just go for it! It is wonderful for its price and you won't regret it. :)
Nifty Fifty
I bought the nifty fifty for my daughter on the D90. A fast lens says it all.
Why did I wait??
I have been in the poto business for years and have never purchased a fixed lens before. Wow what a treat. This solid, I mean solid lens is all one could hope for. The sharp focus and bokeh effect are on point. I have taken it out for a few test drives and have been thrilled! For the price point on this lens you cannot go wrong. What are you waiting for????
Good lens
very good for its cost

Beautiful, clear picture every time!
