Nikon 26221B overview

  • 1Description

The Nikon CoolPix S8100 (Gold) isn't loaded with frivolous bells and whistles--it's got seriously awesome bells and whistles like a 12.1MP CMOS sensor, a sharp, wide-angle to telephoto 10x optical zoom lens (30-300mm 35mm equivalent) made with Nikon ED glass, 1080p HD video, 5 frames per second shooting, 4-way image stabilization for sharp photos even in low light, and a beautiful 921,000-dot high resolution 3" LCD display.

But there's a lot more. Like Subject Tracking to automatically track and auto focus on a moving subject; one-touch video recording with optical zoom, stereo sound and an in-camera editing function; HDR (high dynamic range) function that automatically merges several images of the same scene to achieve a single image with a broad, beautiful range of tonal detail not otherwise possible; and 17 scene modes including the Scene Auto Selector, which automatically recognizes any shooting situation and optimizes all the settings for that scene.

Night Portrait combines consecutive shots of the background while the subject in the foreground is taken using the flash, allowing challenging night scenes to be easily captured during handheld shooting and eliminating any subject movement.  Night Landscape combines a series of five consecutive shots taken at a fast shutter speed into a single image with reduced noise for taking handheld shots in low light.

There's also the Smart Portrait System, with In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, improved Face-Priority AF, Blink Warning, Smile Timer, and Skin Softening to make your friends and family actually happy to see themselves in your pictures.

The S8100 incorporates Nikon's exclusive EXPEED C2 image processing engine, which is customized to each CoolPix model to further drive enhanced performance, outstanding image quality and HD video
Greatly enhanced low-light photographs: the 12.1MP backside illumination CMOS sensor enables exceptional image quality even when shooting in low-light settings, including the advanced Night Portrait mode, which reproduces night scenes and indoor portraits as the user sees them while reducing image blur.
To further help deliver crisp, sharp photos, the S8100 features a 4-Way vibration reduction (VR) Image Stabilization System with ISO settings up to 3200.

    Nikon 26221B reviews

CoolPix S8100 Digital Camera (Gold) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 219.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful features for an all-in-one first impression of the S8100 camera is that it is well built and has a great finished quality to it. The camera operating system is fast and loads menus and pictures quickly, I purchased it for the high megapixes picture quality and the ability to shoot high definition video with a realtime auto focus and zoom while filming. It performs these functions great! the HDMI connection is a plus. perhaps the biggest draw back is that the flash pops up right where you tend to hold the camera with your left hand, this will take getting used to. Have been shopping around for over a month and settled on this camera, for the price and features it seemed to be the best avail, I am very impressed and look forward to a few years of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best point and shoot on the market great specs, 10x optical zoom. great in low light situations. Quick boot up and quick to wake up when battery saver is on. The focus is almost instant. I found the scene selections in difficult situations really improved quality over just taking photos in auto mode. the HD video is outstanding as well as the video audio. Nikon has just set the bar higher for point and shoot cameras. The over all photo quality was excellent. you'll be happy with this camera. I am.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy travel camera for novice I have multiple nikon DSLR camera's but I needed a gift for my girl friend. Her Canon P&S had died and she was always trying to make my P7000 work. Too much camera for her, I decided to test a few smaller Nikon P&S out. The S8100 fits the bill. THe presets work great and there's even a preset where one can easily set lighting compensation in such a way that it even works for a novice who wants good travel pics under most circumstances. The zoom lens has just enough rough for travel images. I played with the camera, love it. Small enough to fit into any pocket and definitely small enough to drip into a purse. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use quality camera As a novice photographer, I have found the controls to be intuitive and easy to navigate, requiring minimal reference to the manual on CD. The quality of the photographs taken has exceeded my expectations, and is encouraging me to use the camera as often as possible and experiment with settings. The zoom has been amazing, resulting in some nice pictures from distances that I had previously thought impossible on anything but a high end camera. My daughter recently borrowed the camera during a college trip, and was consistantly getting better quality pictures than her friend who was using a camera that was over twice as expensive as the Coolpix S8100

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not too happy with this Camera! Great Backup Camera for SLR photographers. My only bone to pick with Nikon is the location of the Flash. I am very disappointed with that. I know eventualy the flash will stop working because is right where you are holding this camera and the automated flsh wants to eject it but your finger is stoping it from poping out. I am costantly have to vaste a shot and retake another one by repositioning my finger. Unfotunatly there is not enough room eny where else to hold this camera, so, you might have a shacky hand efect, then you need to retake the picture for the third time. It is very frusterating. I might to take it back to ... where I purchased it from

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera. So far Been a great camera so far. Took it to the Sugar Bowl and had excellent zoon including the digital zoom - imaes came out pretty clear. Low light images been much better than any other point and shoot camera. The HD video is clear and sound quality is very good. This camera has many little options that will make the picture taking better. I love the automatic scene selection. This does a very good job of selecting the type of scene and adjusting the camera setup to take a very good image. I have been very happy with this camera so far. It does take some time to get use to the flash location but a minor issue for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't go wrong for the $ I shoot professionally with canon & panasonic and sometimes Red, so I have better quality cameras to compare this to whether fair/unfair. For the money this little camera is great to have on hand because it takes really nice pics. The strength of this camera is shots taken with natural light (outdoors). I personally prefer the look of Nikon over Canon, but Nikon still lags behind in the features dept (as of this writing). I think the stereo mic was overkill, it's not like you're shooting a movie with this thing, but the video is adequate. If you want a true little work horse, thats blazingly fast when autofocussing, and don't want to break the bank, buy this camera. My last pocket camera was Sony and i'm soooooo glad I upgraded. I keep it in my pocket or camera bag all the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Balance I use this product when I don't feel like lugging around a DSLR either because I want to be inconspicuous (such as at family gatherings) or I simply don't have time or the means to grab all my DSLR gear/charge batteries, etc. Its great for quality snapshots, as well as can easily handle large quality prints. I do find multiple situations where I would not prefer it over a DSLR, of course, but I know when this camera is appropriate and use it, I would most definitely recommend it, as I found alot of other point and shoot models were not nearly sufficient, and this one exceeds.
