Electro-Voice 309A overview

  • 1Description

The 309A from Electro-Voice is a professional-quality suspension shock mount. The mount is constructed from metal and has a swiveling basket for precise mic positioning. The mount is designed to support the RE20, RE27N/D and RE320 microphones. Because these mics have internal shock mounts as well, the 309A provides an additional level of protection against unwanted vibrations.

    Electro-Voice 309A reviews

309A Suspension Microphone Shock Mount is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Agree with PA the DJ, quality issue I had only used the mount for about six months and same issue as PA the DJ plastic mic mount cracked in two places rendering the whole unit useless... have nice pieces of rubber for a sling shot!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Required reading for RE20, RE27 and RE32 I recently purchased the Electro-Voice RE20 and this shock mount is pretty much what you need to have. It's easy to assemble and the suspension isolation is better than some I've used on other microphones. Tip: Apply a small drop of 'Blue' Loctite to the mounting fastener that attaches to your microphone boom arm a stud. Mine swiveled loose and dropped, but fortunately it landed softly into my lap. It's noteworthy that some other reviewers' reported the plastic housing where the neck of the microphone attaches, has a history of cracking/failing after a relatively short period of use. Only time will tell if this was simply an older quality control issue or remains is a latent defect. Either way, Electro-Voice should be offering replacement parts and most certainly a longer warranty period than its current 90 days.Overall, I'm okay with this mount although I wish B&H Photo offered a Square Trade protection plan for this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Industry Standard! Adjust to any comfortable position. Sturdy. We've been using them for years and years. Buy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality shock mount The 309A suspension microphone shock mount does a good job of isolating the microphone from bumps and microphone position adjustments that cause noise during records or live programs. It is easy to move the microphone in almost any position to fit the user. Four of these have been in our studio for ten years of live radio before having to replace them after years of heavy use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked great, until it fell apart I have a small voice-over studio and I'm the sole user of the mic. It stays in the same position most of the time other than swinging in and out of position to narrate/edit, so it sees light use. It worked great for about 8 months then one mounting arm broke off. The mic didn't fall out but the mount is useless now. I don't think I'll chance buying another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Broadcast standard Not much new to say about this - it has been a standard in radio broadcast and voice-over studios for years. That's what I got it for, and I got just what I expected. Note that it is for a specific microphone - the ElectroVoice RE20 (and probably the follow on model). It's value is that is effectively blocks vibration in the stand from reaching the mic.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality problems Does a great job with the RE-20, but after a few weeks the plastic mic mount cracked in 4 places, dropping the mic and rendering the whole mount useless. Could not get a replacement part from EV. This part carries a lot of stress and should be made of metal! Very surprised since this design has been around 4-ever - must be a quality control issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended especially for home studios I thought about saving the $100 bucks but read reviews from others who regretted not having it. Dozens of little bumps and thuds have been forgiven since picking it up. Does it`s job as it should but make sure the thumbscrews are tight, really tight.
