Nikon 26127B overview

  • 1Description

The Nikon Coolpix S710 Digital Camera blends elegant design and quality construction with high performance and intuitive controls and features. The durable metal body houses a 14.5 megapixel image sensor that is partnered with a 3.6x wide-angle Nikkor zoom lens with an equivalent focal length of 28-101mm in 35mm terms. Additionally, the lens incorporates Nikon's Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization, to overcome camera shake and ensure sharp photos at shutter speeds up to three times slower than would normally be possible, and also includes a High ISO of ISO 3200 for capturing images in low-light situations.

The camera features the EXPEED Processor that provides for high-speed operation, and powers Nikon's exclusive In-Camera Innovations that include In-Camera Red-Eye Fix that automatically detects and corrects red eye, D-Lighting which compensates for excessive back-light or insufficient flash in images, and Nikon's enhanced Face-Priority AF that can automatically finds and focuses on up to 12 people's faces within one frame. In addition the Coolpix S710 is equipped with the Smile Mode to automatically take photos when a subject smiles, and Nikon's Scene Auto Selector Mode, which automatically selects the right scene mode for the image you are shooting for trouble-free photography.

The intuitive controls and large and vivid 3.0" LCD display make it easy to compose photographs and allow users quickly search through images. The display has a wide-viewing angle of 170 degrees and an anti-reflection coating, so it is easily visible, even under bright ambient light conditions. In addition, the S710 comes bundled with the COOLPIX Software Suite for editing, organizing and sharing images. The camera is also compatible with SDHC cards, and utilizes a slim EN-EL12 rechargeable Li-ion battery, which provides plenty of power for a full day of shooting.

14.5 Megapixel Resolution
With 14.5 million pixels of image information, the Nikon Coolpix S710 can produce stunning, photo quality prints up to 30" x 40".
3.6x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom-Nikkor Lens
The high quality Zoom Nikkor Lens provides a 3.6x optical zoom (28mm-101mm equivalent) while the Macro capability lets you get as close as 4.0" to your subject. The wide-angle capability of the lens makes the camera well suited to architectural or real estate photography and also makes it easier to capture broad vistas or large groups. The lens also has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 for improved low light shooting.
Optical VR (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization
The lens of the Coolpix S710 incorporates Nikon's optical lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) system, which compensates for camera movements to produce sharper, steadier images. And because the VR system remains active whenever the camera is on, images also appear more stable on the LCD monitor, making it much easier to judge the right moment to take the shot.
Slim, Stylish, Stainless Steel Body
With a slim, sophisticated Design this ultra-compact digital camera easily slips right into your shirt pocket or purse, and its good looks are complemented by incredible durability due to the Stainless Steel casing.
Light Sensitivity up to ISO 3200
High light sensitivity up to ISO 3200 allows you to tackle scenes and situations that many compact cameras cannot, with the power to capture fast-moving objects with outstanding clarity and gives you great exposures in lower light.
Nikon In-Camera Innovations
The Red-Eye Fix system automatically corrects for most instances of the red-eye effect that is commonly caused by the use of a built-in flash on a compact camera. The D-Lighting feature can rescue underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight by automatically brightening the dark areas in the picture, while maintaining the brighter areas of the image. The Face-Priority AF system automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people's faces wherever they are in the frame for crisp, sharp portraits, and the Face Zoom-in feature zooms right in on the subject's face during playback for images shot with Face-priority AF.
16 Scene Modes
The Coolpix S710 incorporates 16 scene modes that cover some of the more common difficult shooting situations to maximize the image quality. The scene modes automatically adjust focus, exposure, white balance and other settings to make getting a good exposure easy.
Smile Shutter and Blink Warning
You'll always catch the decisive moment when your subject smiles with the smile shutter - it uses face detection technology to activate the cameras shutter right when your subject is looking his or her best. In addition, the Blink warning will let you know when your subject's eyes are closed so you can retake your picture. The camera can detect up to three faces with the subject's smile, determine which is closest to the center of the frame, ultimately firing the shutter.
Scene Auto Selector
The Scene Auto Selector automatically recognizes the scene in your picture and selects the appropriate scene mode for you, the uses the chosen scene mode to automatically adjust the camera setting for the best possible results.
Movie and Voice Recording
Shoot TV-quality (640x480 @ 30 fps) QuickTime movies with sound with the clip length limited only by the available space on the internal memory or your memory card. The Voice Memo Function Records up to 20 seconds of sound that can then be attached to an image.
Advanced Exposure Settings
In addition to the program and scene modes, The Coolpix S710 provides Aperture Priority, Shutter priority, and Manual Exposure Modes that allow you to adjust the camera's settings for any type of lighting conditions and get as creative as you want.
Rotary Multi Selector
The Rotary Multi Selector enables easier camera use. Swift circular scrolling action allows speedy image browsing at up to 10 pictures per second, and a range of buttons ensures intuitive operation. An onscreen icon with a cursor that tracks Rotary Multi Selector scrolling makes it easy to select various features.
Built-in and Expandable Memory
The camera includes 42MB of built-in memory so you can begin taking shots immediately without having to purchase a memory card, and the memory capacity can be expanded dramatically with Secure digital (SD) or Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards.
Bright 3.0-inch LCD
The Coolpix S710 is equipped with a bright 3.0" LCD that is great for viewing images anywhere, anytime. The impressive 230,000 pixel resolution of the display makes your images look bright and sharp while the anti-reflective coating reduces glare so the display is easier to view in bright light.
Auto Image Rotation
The Auto Image Rotation feature detects pictures that have been taken with the camera held vertically and automatically rotates the image for in-camera LCD playback.

Nikon 26127B reviews

Coolpix S710 Digital Camera (Graphite Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great pics but... I took about 500 shots with this cam in just a few days at the SEMA show in Vegas. Overall the pics were great and it makes good movies too. Only problem is I just sent it back to Nikon today because dirt found it's way onto the CCD. I have no idea how as I have treated the camera very well and haven't used it in particularly dusty conditions. One spot now shows up on all photos. The spot looks like a hair. Maybe it was left in the camera during assembly and migrated onto the CCD. If camera is going to be susceptible to dust it should have a vibrating CCD so user can clean instead of having to send the camera back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Takes nice pictures, when the lens opens The first time I turned this camera on, I got a lens error. I turned it off and back on and it didn't happen again, but I was concerned. I thought it might just be because I touched the lens on accident or something. Apparently, this camera has lens issues. After searching online, the Lens Error is a common defect. After using this camera for the 3rd time, I received another lens error that does not allow the lens to retract at all, and the camera makes noises and shuts off. It was in a case before this happened, so I'm not sure why it happened. The photo/video quality was pretty good, but it's only good if the camera will turn on. This was my first experience with Nikon, but I will be switching back to a Canon point and shoot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very nice camera I bought this camera for my father. I have always purchased Canon digital elphs in the past, but was attracted to the features and quality of this Nikon. I was not disappointed. The wide angle, huge lcd, and programable settings are fantastic. AND 14mp! Love it. Only thing I recommend is getting a fast SD card (I got a sandisk ultra). The normal cards really slow down the camera when shooting in a full high resolution. A second battery also helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use, excellent pics Most of the time I use this for snapshots of people, and it's great, especially with the Smile mode. I also own a Nikon S70 digital SLR, and what I like is that your ability to change the exposure settings, the flash setting, and other more advanced parameters is basically the same in the point and shoot Shoot S710 as in the digital SLR> It allws excellent pics in action or low light situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pocket Camera If your like me great potential opportunities always come when your not prepared. I hate to be without a camera and I don't always carry my heavy gear, the Coolpix S710 has been a great pocket camera for grab shots and scouting.
