    Crucial m4 Reviews

256GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 138.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I bought this to speed up my 2010 iMac. I picked Crucial because of their very high reputation for reliability. So far I've been extremely pleased with the result. With the M4 as the boot drive for my iMac, OS X boots in under 5 seconds (previously it was around 30 or so with the classic HD). Note that I'm currently running the M4 in an external FireWire 800 enclosure (that has an internal eSata bridge). This is my first ever SSD, and I wanted to give it a shakedown before tearing apart my iMac and installing it internally. So far it's been absolutely great -- I expect I'll be tearing apart my iMac in another 2 or 3 weeks to do the final install:-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome performance First time owner of an SDD drive. The Crucial M4 SSD 256GB is simply unbelievable. I've been using computers most of my life and going from the old platter based HDD to these SDD drives is the most incredible leap I've ever made. Simply awesome. Boot up into Windows 7 Pro x64 in around 10 seconds. That says it all. By the way, BH Photo Videa are also fantastic. I am located in Australia. I tried to purchase from Amazon but the special they were offering at the time for the M4 256GB drive wasn't shipping to my country for some unknown reason. I found an even better deal right here at BH Photo. Would shop here again, that's for sure! Great value and service and arrived very quickly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from SSD Failed I'm in the process of an RMA with Crucial right now. The drive worked for 2 days then just died. My system wouldn't recognize it. Had everything installed and running perfectly, then the drive just disappeared. On another note, I wasn't too pleased with the drive being shipped in an oversized envelope especially going from NY to SoCal. The drive's original box only has some foam with a cutout where the physical drive sits, but nothing on top or bottom to really protect it. I don't know whether or not this had an effect on my situation but I'd have at least wrapped it in foam or some bubbles. 2 stars for dead drive and sub-par shipping but it did arrive on time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great so far in my MacBook Pro 17 Installation was simple but I think that my MacBook Pro may be easier to work with than some models. I also have done this kind of work before. I also bought an adapter to replace my DVD drive with my old hard drive, and then used the process documented in several places on the web to create a Fusion drive. Disk Utility shows I have a 1.25TB drive (this SSD plus my 1TB internal HD drive). Performance does appear to be faster for many operations. Prices are falling for SSDs in general, and I think what I paid was reasonable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crucial M4 SSD - The best of the best I put this hard drive into a 3 year old DEll E5500. The laptop runs like new! At first I installed Windows XP on the machine and was surprised to see that my bootup time was under 20 seconds. A later upgrade to Windows 7 brought the bootup time down even lower. My battery time has increased since platters are no longer spinning in the machine. The noise level has dropped to only the fan coming on occasionally. I am extremely happy with this drive and will move it to another laptop in the event I upgrade in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple & Straightforward Win 7 Install Because I don't use my computer for games, I don't need a regular hard drive. Plus I wanted a fast SSD. The Crucial Technology M4 256 GB SSD was just the ticket. It was super-easy to install Windows 7 on it and didn't require any tweaking with TRIM or anything else. My new computer boots to Windows 7 in about 14 seconds now. Applications pop onto the screen almost instantly. I'm very happy and impressed with the M4. B & H photo delivered promptly and in excellent condition. I would definitely buy from B & H again. The price on this item (for the date I purchased it) was excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best UPGRADE ever done on i7 Dell 435MT This is the BEST speed increase of all the upgrades I have done to my i7 DELL 435MT. 24gb tri-chanel memory, Win7 PRO 64-bit.I installed clean from the Dell VISTA 64-bit Home install disk, then my Win7 64-bit Home upgrade , then finally Win7 64-bit Professional upgrade. Formated the SSD with no issues and Ended with TRIM installed in Win7 PRO 64-bit. This SSD supports both SATA II and SATA III.It's fast , runs cool, easy to install with Ver. 9 of the software. More info on my install is on my blog: http://tourist-of-light.blogspot.com/2012/02/crucial-m4-ssd-fw-ver0009-256gb-for.html

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Balance: Reliability vs. Speed I purchased this specifically because of its high reliability relative to other SSDs out there. As for the speed, it is much faster than what I had before--a WD Velociraptor 300 GB, which failed after about 3 years of usage. If I had to mention a negative about this SSD it would be that it uncovered a new bottleneck in my system... The rest of my system. I was able to use this with an ASUS P5K. My mobo supports only IDE mode, not AHCI. Although not a prerequisitve from what I understand, I did flash the BIOS with that of the P5KR to enable AHCI mode. That worked flawlessly. I also flashed the SSD to tha latest 0309 firmware. That went flawlessly as well. I just need to remember to back up, back up, back up.
