This lens is also characterized by an internal focusing design, which maintains the overall length during use, as well as an 8-blade rounded diaphragm for a smooth bokeh quality.

With the Canon EF version, is the aperture always at the whatever setting, or does it trigger with shutter (like a "normal" SLR lens). i.e., does viewfinder get very dark at high f-stops?
The aperture remains wide open until you take the photo. The viewfinder will not get dark unless you activate the depth of field preview,
